can i know what MNCs in spore that as reputable as Intel, Agilent Motorola, HP, etc like in Penang industrial zone?

where all those companies located mostly? Woodland?

im from EE engineering background
*
Spore also has Agilent, Motorola, HP, Seagate etc... Most MNCs has branches at Spore. If not the manufacturing plant, at least a sales or hub office. And they existing at more than 1 location for eg HP, Seagate, Motorola.
Most mfg plants/factories located "outskirt" of Spore. West side for eg Jurong is the area where most plants/factories are. But Spore so small, everywhere is near to each other.

Is it difficult for graduates in IT to get a job there and ask for the employer to sponsor for the working permit application??? Most of the jobs i seen on jobstreet/jobsdb SG always restricted applicants to Singaporean/Singapore PR...Other nationalities will not be attended.
*
Ask Miss Froggy...she's IT recruiter at Spore.
but if u dun mind contract job, IT shall be easy to get job there.
And employer usually apply work permit at their cost if they really wanna recruit u.

wat i know is -- singaporean has low birth rate, + their average age is getting older and older + their own ppl tend to migrate to other country like nz, au or ca
*
Yes Spore is having low birth rate, so they encourage foreign talents.
For Msian, u merely need a SPM 5 credits to land u a work pass, and subsequently can apply PR after worked there for 6 mths. If u r a degree holder, chances to get PR approval is higher.
As PR, u can change any jobs without tie by the work pass employer. Can buy house with another PR at open mkt. Enjoy subsidized school fee (for dip and above - good for upgrading), subsidized medical and hospitalization fee at Spore. Shorter q at custom as u take the "citizen and resident" lane.
But u'll lose your SPR status if u are jobless and hit your re-entry permit renewal date. Re-entry permit is given at max 10-years duration. Unless u are a girl and married to local man, then u could get a dependant pass...

I worked, got my part time degree, bought a hse, married at Spore...
Now I back to KL... and realize I have hard time to adapt the life here, as had been in comfort zone for too long.
So my advise is if u only out to Spore to dig gold, do not stay too long. Otherwise u'll feel lost and depress when u back here.

Hey curious here
Care to share more?
Which part u can't adapt?
And what do u mean by comfort zone?

I must admit I am a lazy person thus Spore does suit me more as she provides comveniency.
I can drive but I dun like to drive thus Spore public transport really helps. Eatery places are conveniently within walking distance at both working and residential places without scare of snatch or rains as most linkways are sheltered. Their banks and govt bodies services are so much efficient than KL. The scenario is they have longer q, but definitely shorter waiting/processing time compared to KL...Btw, most of the bank and govt services could be done via phone or internet.
I dun need to mention Spore broadband/wireless provider as many has elaborated that...Msia Tmnet is just sweat.gif
And...Spore is cheaper than KL in term of dollar to dollar comparison!

Spore working life is quite versatile. U get to expose to multinational cultural since most companies there are Asia Pac hub. Many foreigners work there thus equal opputurnity as long as you are outstanding.

Nevertheless, Spore does have their boring part. Too small the island and u'll really get bored after many weekends there. The govt is efficient but kinda like Mahathir time - one man say all...but why I care? I am not their citizen.

I thot HP Spore giving quite good package, still cant feed u?
I have friends working there and they seem satisfied.
HP Spore well known of providing extensive training to employees. It is always good to pick up more skills esp if u r still young in work force.

Dun go shopping and hi-tea too often, buy clothes from the heartlander shops la. Then u can save.

Indeed Spore co. advertize at Msia newspapers to recruit but it is bare minimum. Spore newspaper The Strait Times (esp Saturday) advertize more and most of the semicon MNCs hire Malayasian as engineers. Pay more notice to those big firms for eg Seagate, HP, Motorola...or Spore GLC, the ST (Spore Technologies) group companys or Sembcorp etc. They are always recruiting and they are kind of fair in terms of package.

yes have alot because this is the job shun by Singaporean. I think you have to come to Singapore and buy the Saturday Strait Times. Saturday paper is super thick and have alot of job advertisement.
Btw, you are guy or girl ? In my opinion girl is easier to get job in service sector.
Maybe I wrong also.  smile.gif
*
Both Eurekas and billy are rite in job search method in Spore. Why not u try all their methods.
Singapore service line is flooded with foreigner...restaurants used to have many Msians and now China Chinese...
You could also try your luck in office entry level job for eg recep, coordinator, admin. But please at least ensure you have SPM 5 credits or if better diploma. Otherwise u'll have pblm in applying work permit.

any "pantang" that i should know about before i go sg? how about taxation and stuff?....though i can find the info from the net but a person view suits me well
*
As long as u work > 180 days in a day in Spore, the income tax payable would be "normal"...and trust me, it is lower than Msia. Otherwise, it is higher. U may refer to www.iras.gov.sg for details.

Only PR needs to contribute CPF. For west Msian, u can oni withdrawn your cpf after 55 years old or u sumpah will never work in Spore in your entire life.

Other Misc:
- dun try to bring > 1 pack cigaratte pass the Spore custom. U'll get fined or high taxed for that.
- dun corrupt the cop there
- If u r driving, no speeding no red lights crossing no jump q. Mobile speed track and camera is everywhere.

There's this telecommunication company at SG, M1, which advertised in The Star paper last saturday. I wonder if anyone who work there can advise or give some info regarding this company. And also how much is rental of one room over at SG?

Really wanna try out this job as customer service, but dunno how's life over at Singapore. Anyone who saw this ad n interested in it?
*
Spore has 3 telecommunication service providers. M1 is one of them.
These companies are always recruiting CS cos the turnover rate is very high. U probably will find many Msian there. Think this is a shift work. Pay shall be ard SGD2k.

Rental of one room at Sg is SGD200~500 depending on locations/facilities. Those near to MRT more expensive.

Spore is safe country but small and can be quite boring. But there are many activities for youngters at their community centres if u willing to open up yourself. Make new friends there and occupy yourself...dun go back hometown every weekends. If u like to read, they have libraries at most of the bigger residential areas. Registered yourself with a minimal amount and u can borrow books there.

I may start working in Singapore mid of April. Which is the best way to do? get a room in Singapore or get an apartment in JB and use public transport to work? Put into consideration how much money do u save by renting in JB and is it stressful to do that everyday.

Another question, where do i look for room renting advertisement in Spore? i googled but it seems that it is more towards condos or apt which costs $1500. Renting rooms would be sharing with others right? or is it like japan where 1 room has everything?
*
It all depends. If your Spore working place is near to the checkpoint for eg Woodlands, Marsilings etc... no pblm to commute from JB everyday. I guess many Msia transporters have the commute service from JB ~ Spore daily. But be prepared for the routine tired journey and u would sacrifice some of the life style for eg u cant go dinner/shopping after works with colleagues. Life could be quite monotomous.
U may check the Spore newspaper for room rent. It shd be SGD200~SGD500/room. Better location more ex. U can opt not to share with others but gotta pay higher lor. Furnished or not also depends. But Spore Ikea quite reasonable price, just go grab few cheap piece to done up your room if it is empty. Won't cost u so much.

Most resonable companies in Spore will pay the work permit/S pass application fee. But everywhere has rotten egg comapnies...so if the company ask u to pay for the fee, easy, dun take the job. They wont be reasonable for the package too.

Spore has many so called "agents" trying to bring in foreign workers to work in Spore...esp in construction and labour intensive sector. They claim they can secure job and guaranteed work permit/S pass for the foreigners thus ask them (usually Burmase, Chinese, Indonesian, Thai) for $$. But beware, in spore, no one can pre-guarantee work permit/S pass would be issued to u. Only Immigration and checkpoints authority (ICA) has the final say.

Also employment agents at Spore will charge employer, not employee.

hoho...just relax and enjoy...and exchange little SGD to much more RM for your parents.

Seriously, i had been in Spore many years, first few years earned too little and took part time course there (got tax rebate), no need to pay income tax. And besides income tax, I dun remember any other "obligations"...

if you go through agents, definitely they will charge you a fee , this including Singaporeans.

*
But then how come I din pay the agent after i gotta job thru them? I'll say it depends lar. Most established agency only charge to employer.

And the living cost things...aiya, those who actually working and living in Spore will know the truth. Of cos "our" (yes, I was one of them, but I come back Msia liao) purchasing power when earning SGD is much higher. Those has wrong perception usually passer-by who "heard" from someone... yawn.gif

I would say the only few more expensive items in Spore are property, cigaratte, buatan Msia barang barang.

Dove shower gel: in Spore => +/-SGD10, Msia => +/-RM20
Kopi: in Spore => +/- SGD0.80 (at kopitiam), Msia => +/- RM1.30 (at mamak)
Colgate: in Spore => +/- SGD3.00, Msia => +/- RM5.00
Nokia N73: in Spore => +/- SGD600 (no contract), Msia => +/- RM1300?
LCD 32": in Spore => SGD2000, Msia => RM4000?

So, earning RM2000 and SGD2000 any different? Of cos!

doh.gif Sg is one of the safest country in the world.
I walk from mrt station to my Spore home at midnite, never worry of snatch of other crimes.
But of cos that doesn't mean no crime rate. But they are just low crime rate.

singaporean says sg exp , jb cheap because of the currency exchange rate. like my frenz takes SGD1000 back to hometown during CNY...

i bet there are maybank in sg right?

How bout workign in singapore with a family? Since housing is so expensive, it should be more expensive than malaysia right? I mean babysitter, a nice 1200sf condo and all would probably cost a bomb. Somemore with baby and all I'm pretty sure you need a car as well. I notice most of you are calculating based on a single working person and not family.
*
Spore is quite pro family if u r the citizen or PR.
Condo at Spore cost from SGD1000~SGD5000, depending on locations. But why condo? Spore is quite safe, u dun need a guarded area. Their HDB flat is quite compatible to above average class condo in Msia without facilities, but they are cheaper at approx SGD1000 for 1200 sqf.
Their public transport system is very convenient, u could easily move around with baby. Even u want to get a car, I personally feel that most people can affort the monthly installment. The killing part are on those ERP, CBD area charges and parking fee.
Basically every housing area will have few child care centres for babysitting and kids. U will enjoy rebete if you r citizen or PR. I especially like their libraries that located at most big housing area. They have exclusive children section and open for borrowing of up to 4 books/card with one time off member fee at SGD10 or 20 only.
Finally, most Sporean could live comfortably with combine household income of SGD5000. I dun believe Msia could achieve that.

If u torrent for your own, shoudn't have pblm.

But be careful do not "tag along" with other's wireless account even if the stupid owner din lock it up. It is an offence in Spore and there have been 2 cases reported.

no, generally Sporean is not friendly or u could say it depends on individual. For stranger, Msian is definitely more friendly.

Since u r so interested to work at Spore, why not go to www.sg or www.visitsingapore.com.sg to take a glance on the info rather than ask the forumers who usually gv general comments.

Depends...if u wanna be a "working machine likable life", u may live at jb. If u chose to "live and work" at Spore, pls rent a room at Spore. Besides rental, all others expenses are quite affortable in Spore. Go buy your household things at ntuc, can be on par with giant at JB after conversion.

If u can survive with RM4k in Msia u can survive with SGD3k in Spore. But just gotta live modestly there.

Your wife could have problem even to stay at Spore if no cert. In Spore, foreigner who has no cert = hardly has job.
The only way she could stay at Spore with u is u gotta be a Spore PR, and apply her a dependant pass, subject to approval. If u dun want to be PR there, probably u wanna stay at JB with ur wife...

SGD3k with condo and car at Spore? Yes it is hard.
Spore is convenience, safe and systematic. If u aim to gain more regional or global working environment, having stable and peaceful family life, Spore shall be a good choice.
Otherwise, better stay at bolehland and look for other oppurtunity.
