because if they did that, everyone would know "unlimited" is not really unlimited and they are trying to cheat their customers.TMnet confirms they are throttling P2P, CEO staff admits to P2P throttling

As for P2P, it has been throttled to high heaven since September. if you signed up without knowing this, then tmnut did a good job of cheating you of your hard earned money. |

QUOTE(Oblivion @ Nov 28 2006, 09:43 PM) As far as P2P and BB is concerned, as some of the more learned users on this forum put it, even First World (and I use the term liberally) countries have a pay-as-you-download system, so why shoudn't we? We've been damned lucky these last few years and have gotten spoilt I guess. Being from the "so-called" #1 First World country I can assure you; "unlimited" download means exactly that (and 99% of ISP's have an "unlimited" package). And anything short will have an ISP looking at "Civil Suits" (i.e. try capping, shaping, throttling an amerikan, oh boy. monetary gains for the winner; big gains). The key is to get out of this damn first world/third world "mindset". Are you "third world"? or better yet "what is the definition of third world"?... and further WHO created the definition of "third world". Bunch of bullshyte, really. Bottom line is the network is overloaded by users (TMNut incompetance); the network will continue to be over saturated as the CEO's are buying the latest Merc's and the CallCenter workers are struggling to get rm1500 a month. Fukers are greedy laaa... Need to cut the fat back; starting at the top. Re-enforce the infrastructure and bandwidth to meet the current/future demands. Since I've been here I've found a "first world" peoples trapped by a "third world" government. You'all have all the same benefits/problems that we have back home. Now we just need to overcome the mindset and some of these folks whom continue to live mentally in the past (my Umno brothers should be ashamed of themselves... not even going to go there)... |

Anyone notice the top half of the full page ad Streamyx put out in yesterday's (18/12/2006) edition of Computimes in the New Straits Times? Looks like they're basically announcing that they are really throttling high-bandwidth connections. No real new information for anyone on this thread in that ad, but the funny thing is they said that they're not punishing people who use high bandwidth.
I've scanned the advert I mentioned and it is here: http://tinyurl.com/yamzsl |

I don't think they are. After all, they're basically announcing that throttling is considered their "best effort" to maximise bandwidth availability as opposed to, you know, admitting that the network can't handle Internet applications that is beyond "normal Internet usage" - some of which are applications that they themselves have been promoting with their advertising emphasis on high-speed multimedia on broadband - and getting more bandwidth or reworking the network to cope. That "best effort" clause is their biggest trump card; it basically allows them to say that anything they do is good enough and should be accepted, even if there are better alternatives that would actually solve the problem instead of shoving it under the carpet. |

Honestly, TMnet wanted to and has monopolized broadband internet in Malaysia yet they provide us with the shittiest service ever. When I subscribed for Streamyx the instant it came out they told me it was already available in my area, so I stopped by ISDN connection. Right after that they called me and said I had to wait 2 months. When I finally got it, service had problems in 3 days or so.
They blame the users (that pay their salary) for consuming all their bandwidth. With the 'unlimited bandwidth' slogan and a monopoly on the business, I would assume they'd have quite a large amount of funding for extra international links. Even if they don't at least be frank with us from the beginning and not lie to us about the condition of things. 'Best effort' basis? Yeah right. I used to believe 20KB/s was the max I could pull out of my line till I got introduced to Mass Downloader + Telstra proxies (160KB/s now). I think they've had a messed up network infrastructure from the start. I ping less with friends in Singapore compared to the Streamyx DNS servers themselves. |
