I just had a look at my key battery and mine is a CR-2032, the issue could be the CR-2016 can't provide enough current to work reliably even if it's likely to fit and contact the terminals fine. LED lamp makers take advantage of the limited ability of the CR-2016 to make lights very simple, so they must only output 20 mA or so. With the CR-2032 having double the thickness it may output nearly twice that.

Mine, 1 is 2032, another 1 is 2x2016 The 2032 remote fob can sen signal very far. However, the 2x2016 is not too far, but it can penetrate multiple concrete wall and still able to pass signal back to the car

Also is the Remote circuitry designed to accept a higher output current?
Since the holder is originally designed for 2 pcs of 2016?

In view of abv, wld replacing 1pc 2032 for the 2pcs 2016 provide worthwhile benefits?

It is because they came with several different type of remote fob. Some are 6V, some are 3v.
