Ahha....don't worry, it's not a long way to go. I'm going Japan again next year in March and i'm 50% doing the itinerary now  tongue.gif

for the Shirakawa-go light-up, it's usually on a Saturday. So you better make your farmhouse reservation soonest possible smile.gif

First there was no such thing as JR Pass Central. Second was from Kanazawa to Shirakawago don't have any passes. Third was there are no passes from Shirakawago to Kyoto plus there also no transport directly from Shirakawago to Kyoto too. You have to go back to Kanazawa again.

In appreciate to the sempais here and also to return to the community, I share my actual itinerary (slightly different from planned version, but not too different) as well as the total amount spent during my 10 day 9 night trip to Japan a week ago. Hopefully others can use it to get a rough idea on the budgeting required for their trip to Japan.

Itinerary
Attached Image

Budget (calculated based on 1000yen = RM30

The plan within Tokyo could've been more efficient, but some of it was decided on the spot when we decided we have extra time.

Under transportation, besides misc local trains, it also includes expensive ones such as:
All nikko pass + express ticket = 6430 yen
Bus to and return from Fuji Q = 3750 yen
Willer overnight bus to Kyoto = 7600 yen
So if you just plan to stay in Tokyo without going for day trips, it should be much lower

I think with even proper planning we could've saved some money on local trains by going with day passes, but we paid extra for the flexibility I guess since it is difficult to just rely on either the JR train pass or Metro train pass.

Fuh I'm tempted to pay a visit! Will be doing 2-3 days in Tokyo area before heading off to Hokkaido this trip (cos my waifu gila duffy and shellie mae so no choice need to go TDS to buy some more bears) :| ... might be worth it to take a day trip to kamakura icon_idea.gif

RegentCid lucaswjk "From the upper chair lift station, it is a steep 60-90 minute climb to the summit which rewards hikers with views into the interior of the Daisetsuzan mountains."

"use a chairlift to carry you up past the 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) mark."

So total about 400+m of vertical elevation. If fitness level is like those barely exercise one, can make it to the peak in reasonable time ma? Otherwise looks like my waifu and I need to sign up for 6 months gym membership icon_idea.gif

Also, I'm assuming the chair lift and ropeway will stop operations by sunset i.e. 4pm-5pm so any hike should start in the morning ... right?

Hey thanks for the clarification
the JR pass central is referring to this http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/pass-region...ku-tourist-pass

Takayama Hokuriku pass where i plan to depart from osaka to kanazawa--> shirakawago --> kanazawa --> kyoto...
not sure if it works...

Pocket wifi got =D. 6627yen for 10 days, shared by 4 people. Under Misc category

Gotten from here: http://www.rentalwifi.com/ I took with insurance.
Once reached Narita, pick up package from Post Office. Before departure, dropped it into a post box in Kansai Airport

Edit: On food, we didn't overly splurge on food as we tried many budget food too like Sukiya/Yoshinoya/Mos Burger/100 yen sushi/convenience store food. But RM90/day is inclusive of many kinds of snacks and instant noodles too. I believe if you want to experience more expensive food, you can budget for higher.

this is one of the easiest mountain i hike
u hardly use any energy
coz all the hardwork u oni need to do is after 1,500m
and take note... when snow, they might not operate the chairlift
but if u insist, nobody will stop u... u can still WALK ALL THE WAY to the top

i oso barely exercise tat year
and took almost 2+hours reach the top
why so slow?
coz every 10/20m we stop to take pix/play with the snow brows.gif
cant even feel the time pass

at the top, u need heavy winter wear... scarf for face, leather glove, heatpad, hot drink, lip moisturizer
the wind is especially strong at the top... and the temp is sub zero degree Celsius
without above items, i guarantee u cant last 10mins
bonus some ppl bring bunsen burner to enjoy hot coffee thumbup.gif
but there is a coffee shop at the top, well i guessed it beat the purpose

i started hike at 8am, by 1pm i already at town enjoying extra hot and spicy ramen lunch
