Highly recommended to get pocket wifi so you can plan as you go, as well as check for discounts or passes that you can utilize on the spot. But these days, seems that it is easier to get free internet wifi in Japan thumbup.gif. 2 years back it was so difficult

Winter day the mountain hiking will closed. Max can reach until top of cable car station only. The chairlift will stop operation and hiking to kurodake peak will not allow.

I got some picture during winter time at Sounyko. After reach top of cable car station the wind was so heavy and temp are -18 Celsius plus visibility are 300 meters only.

As of now, my planning for this portion is

X: arrive late evening asahikawa from furano/biei and sleep
X+1: morning go zoo see penguins then after lunch drive to sounkyo. Afternoon/evening onsen, rest, piak piak dinner, sleep.
X+2: early morning go hike mountain. Come back down have lunch then drive back to sapporo.

Or

X: arrive late evening sounkyo from furano/biei and sleep.
X+1: early morning go hike mountain. Come back down have lunch then afternoon/evening onsen, rest, piak piak dinner, sleep.
X+2: after breakfast drive to asahikawa go zoo see penguin then lunch then drive back to sapporo

Seems #2 make more sense
