my experience, a better router will smooth everything, except the china sites problem which has nothing to do with a router.

rm200-1k, depending on yr needs. i use asus, good.

Hi guys, just wanna ask a stupid question about this unifi thingy.

My old Streamxy was very prone to lighting strikes during thunderstorms and I always had to take out the telephone socket from the modem and also to switch off the modem and sometimes unplug the power socket.

I have lost about 2 modem's to lighting strikes in part years.

Now since unifi is using fibre optics and not the telephones line, must we switch off the unifi mofrm or router during thunderstorms.

Tks for the quick reply.

What do you mean by fragile. Saw the fibre before it was nstslled. It was inserted in a tube like casing, now up my ceiling

What precautions to take.

So no need to power off during thunderstorms like the normal telephone modems.

Hi Zenquix ,

sorry i'm not really expert on this.

Assume i have a Unifi Modem , Unifi Router and Xioam Router.

so i connect the fiber into my unifi modem at my living room.  1 cat6 cable from port 1 of the modem will connect to the unifi router , 2nd cat6 cable will connect from port 2 at my 2nd floor xiaomi router.

I though connection from modem to Unifi router already fix to certain point and vlans.. ,can i configure the same on 2nd xiaomi router as well ?

initially my design is connect Unifi modem and Unifi router first..and from Unifi router , it will provide WIFI coverage to xioami router as extended AP .
*
unifi modem --- unifi router -- xiaomi router.

set xiaomi router as an address on your LAN. i.e. if unifi is 192.168.1.1 then i suggeset u set the xiaomi router to 192.168.1.254 /192.168.1.253.

use any port (port 2 is fine) except the last port (Hypp TV) to connect unifi router to xiaomi router. VLAN tagigng is more for moving the entire functionality to a different box especially the IP TV. in this scenario no need since runnign it like a transparent bridge. just make sure turn off DHCP on xiaomi router and use DHCP on unifi router. Gateway point to unifi router. If your xiaomi router got bridge mode will make it much easier.

Actually I just installed my Unifi VIP5 last week and I was not aware of this Ja-Jumbo deal and when TM called me to confirm my registration the CS never told me about this deal

Gettign VIP10 at RM149 + RM60 for Hypp TV seems a fair deal.

What will be the price after the contract?

Can I upgrade for this Package?
*
i just called and request special price to upgrade from 5 to 10Mbps...got the rm169. They wanted to upsell me the new jumbo deal...extra rm40...i dont watch hypptv. passed.

This i understand but Unifi is account bound package. Just like how to Unifi ppl called us up to promote their upgrade package to 10mb/20mb etc, they just set your account to 20mb and u may able to enjoy 20mb, but i did some research, some ppl say unifi ppl will remote access to your modem and set something, not sure thou.

thanks for helping anyway.

it seems that rm169 10mb is the new "standard" pricing now. anyone got rm119 for the 5mb package yet?
