thanks. do I need to ask the seller to help me configure or it should b straight forward based on the thread u linked earlier. the unifi guy passed me a sheet of paper with my username and password and asked me to ask the seller to configure...
*
it's quite straightforward for diy.

but if buying at shop (not online), can get the guy there to configure for u since u already have the userid n pw which r required when changing router. if pre-configured, u just get home, replace (same wiring/connections), plug n play only!

thanks a lot, man. you were really helpful  thumbup.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

btw, has anyone changed the motorola phone provided by TM as part of the unifi package with ordinary phone? i find the phone is not serving any purpose now since the battery dies very quickly...
*
nice. wink.gif

they now give motorola phone? my panasonic, still good after 3+yrs.
anyway, i have plugged it into an ordinary phone before, it works, so u can try any phone!

Good to hear then.. I was always afraid in downloading large volume of data..

It's a no brainer if they want to impose that quota limit. Nowadays even one game can be up to 40 GB, even more.
*
unifi throttling... never had, not now, will not happen in foreseeable future.

if still using the crappy orig unifi router, there u hv it - that's the problem.

replace it, all will be gud, forever....! biggrin.gif

best u can never get, go for it!

QUOTE(boysrule @ Jan 21 2015, 12:21 PM)
just received call from TM today. promotion is 10mbps for RM169 and renew 2 years contract. or jumbo package hypptv worth RM60 which means RM209 for 10mbps + jumbo package. or calls package which i didnt bother to ask. i think this will be the 2015 promotion contra as per done previously for a limited time.
*
take the rm209. if u miss this, u may not get a better package. assuming u want a mix of hypp's english best - variety, news, kids, movies, tv series, sports.

Is there any other way to get the PPPoE password ?

I called UniFi this morning and they ask me for the owner's IC number. So I called the previous tenant of my house and asked her. After that she gave me a number from the previous tenant before her  blink.gif

She doesn't want to share her IC number. I already explained her that I want to change the current router so i need the password. I only know the username by logging in to the current router.

I don't want to waste my money on the newer router that I just bought  icon_question.gif
*
what i read here is the unifi was installed by yr past tenant, passed on to next tenant. now u as landlord want to continue or u r kind to change router for current tenant.

the usual practice for tm/unifi or any tel line is: tenant's name, tenant deal with all of it incl routers, terminate when leaving. this is to protect landlord as phone/internet bill can run into thousands.

which means if yr current or future tenants run up the bill n then cabut, the 1st one who registered will be the one unifi will go after. not sure if that will affect yr application for unifi again with same addr under another name...

RM169 mostly for 1st batch and never upgrade  after 2 years contract finish..
*
i think rm169 only offered to users in highrise with intense competition with time and/or maxis.

other places with unifi monopoly, no chance.

my house is landed and my current package is VIP10@RM169...my friend lives in apartment and only got the RM179 offer...another difference is i've been subscribing to unifi since march/april 2010 while my friend since 2011 iinm...
*
yr case may also be due to competition while the apt case have no competition.

ya, all kinds... nobody knows how, why and when do 169, 179, 199; with or without hypp pack 1, 2, 3; free one month or none; change equipment or none; sign new contract or none.

i gave up trying to understand how they offer but seems there is no std format....

hi,

If existing package is RM199 VIP10 with hypTV, can just upgrade to VIP20@RM199/month without Jumbo Pack or required to take the Jumbo Pack@RM60 + RM199 VIP20 ?
*
yr rm199vip10 probably has megapack.
when i called them last week, was told you can go vip20 jumbo by paying additional rm60 = rm259.

no, u can't get vip20 by giving up megapack and same rm199. but u can go vip20 keep mega by paying additional rm50, but no jumbo.

and u can't swap mega for jumbo with additional rm10, still vip10.

anyway, i am not very sure about all this. but that's what i got when i called. others seem to have been told diff things when they call. so, maybe their cs dept also blurr due to so many types n variations, can be diff depending who u speak to...?!!

Lately, the B.T.U is acting up (always lost connection. After restart, the internet was recovered for a short while, then disconnected again), and is making some noise (something like yii~~~~~~~).
Is anybody else having similar problem?
*
i had intermittent disconnects 2-3 days ago. my unifi btu and own asus router are both quite new, <6 months.

i could not tell if it was due to btu or router or just bad unifi line. tolerated it for 2 days.

the problem has disappeared, all normal now. my conclusion: it was purely unifi line problem.

I've recently upgraded my VIP5 unifi to VIP10, but i realised when im using torrent, the download speed is capped, or rather, does not exceed 1.1MB. Well I'm paying for a 10MBps, so I thought maybe there's something wrong with my settings?
*
8 bits = 1 byte.

yr 10mbps is 10megabits (mbps) per sec = 1.25 megabytes per sec (MBps)

if u r getting 1.1, that's pretty good.

try changing to better router, ethernet and not wifi, u might get 1.20 MBps! biggrin.gif

Just upgraded to VIP20 for 219 thru special offer. 2 more years contract. Will I live to regret this?  cry.gif
*
rm219 is good price, even with 2 yr contract.

it will be very helpful for some of us if u can share some details:

1.. how much u paid for vip10 before?
2.. how long had u been on vip 10?
3.. what location... e.g. pj, selangor?
4.. is this a house or highrise?
5.. any competition like maxis or time?
6.. did they change modem, router and hypptv box?
7.. does this deal come with any hypptv pack like jumbo or platinum or ruby or mega or just the basic?

tqvm.

1. Previously RM179 for VIP10
2. Started with VIP5 for 2 years then upgraded to VIP10 nearly 1.5 years
3. KL
4. High rise
5. Maxis fibre
6. No changes
7. Nope.
*
thanks for response, appr it.

if no equipment renewal, no hypptv at all, highrise with maxis as competition, i can understand.

overall, looks fair.

i talked to them... for my case 3.5 yrs with unifi, in shah alam, house, with hypptv megapack, unifi will not give 2 hoots to my request to get what u got. i pay rm199 for vip10 and must pay rm249 for vip20. no ifs n buts, they tell me.

Actually I have hypptv but never installed the decoder cause of TV placement vs modem position (I know I can use wireless to connect but never got to it yet). I think I have the basic package or could it be basic + additional pack?

Maxis 20mbps is 198 while 30mbps is 248. Tempted to change prior to this upgrade but I thought what the heck since I have no problem with unifi throughout the years.
*
ya, i think u do have the basic hypptv pack, which u dun use. really, it is pretty much worthless...

maxis... i also tot of switching but it bothers me to read reports of maxis throttling dwnld speed at certain times of the day or night and astro iptv works only with original and not other routers. i hate it when a vendor tries to control too much, all to squeeze more from my pocket. mad.gif

hello, previously im using streamyx and my mother is able to stream to zhanqi.tv to watch live sbs shows. now upgrading to unifi she cant stream anymore. can anyone enlighten me whether this is an restriction imposed by unifi?
*
yr experience may be explained by something that happens every 2-3 months or so with unifi, but not streamyx.

not official explantion but strong suspicion unifi bandwidth quota for traffic dwnld from china often gets limit up - it slows down and then to nothing until next cycle begins.

unifi heavy users of china sites will know it happened in sept, nov 2014 and now.
