just a suggestion from me:
large - very large tank = sump filter
medium - large tank = medium/large cannister filter
small - medium tank = small/medium cannister filter
nano tank = hob

usually for small tank under than 2ft, hob is used as extra bacta housing and to provide extra aeration and water flow on the surface.
for brand, it doesnt matter since its up to the user budget and needs.
want a good reliable and silent filter = branded and more pricey filter
but if you are a careful person, out of budget and wants to get a decent filter to get the job done = MIC filter is another option.

THank for the feedback...
Already bought it thou... but with tight budget, no choice, just use and see first.... I am not going for heavy planting also, most probably 1 -2 type of plant and a few shrimp... only... smile.gif

I'll fill the back with 3 species of rotala from blood red, red to green, hm in the middle and monte carlo/HC as carpet plant. That's the plan, I hope it executes alright. Getting them this saturday.

Just got myself an Aquaclear 20. For the price, it's a great HOB filter. Great for small tanks too, since the flow can be adjusted to just trickling. Added a layer of filter floss, and water is really clear thumbup.gif

UG is growing realllllllyyyy slow, but no longer melting. Now waiting for tank to cycle before I get some shrimps to clear off the remaining algae from previous attack.
