Guys, plan to upgrade this on my 1.5 ft tank. Do this kind of lights works great with planted tank?
Now only using t5 15wx2 on my tank.

Metal halide lamp

isnt metal halide for a 1.5ft abit overmuch? sweat.gif
talk about algae growth booster + overheating syndrome

TBH, I'm also not sure though. tongue.gif

70w will be too much?  blink.gif
usually its 55w for max or less, all about ure tank setup to be honest IMHO.
But with higher lighting, requires higher co2 output and adequate ferts plus acceptable cooling system.
If not, myriads of problems will arise(melting, bba, diatoms, gsa, fish discolouration due to heat, etc ,etc)

luqee : i like ur statement. algae booster... whahaha... exactly wat i'm going through now...

although i'm on 2 x 50w led spotlight la.. mostly anubias / java and amazon swords...
LED different story bro hikhik.

That stuff can be lift off 20cm above tank also will cause that much problem?  hmm.gif
I did see lot's people using double 36w pll on 2 feet tank
my recommendation, instead of PLL, get the friendly CFL bulb type ligthing if you cant afford LED.
They dont need ballast, and if the bulb goes kaput, its easy to find, easy to install and cheap.
PLL produce more heat, not only will your tank inhabitant will suffer, but your ballast too. Ask PLL lighting users,
have they suffered at least one overheated ballast or not. tongue.gif
And usually Metal Hallide people use for bigger setup, maybe 3ft ++ IMHO.
I may be wrong though.

i wanted to do it but my led housing will all go to waste.
so instead, i am now waiting to go 20w red blue led grow light from 50W 6500k white. waiting for the driver to come in.. hehe...
bro...next time ure diy ure LED do make some tutorials...
i still a newbie in LED even though they already common nowadays and cheap.

Sorry, but where can I purchase simple tanks (5 gallon will do)? And are plastic tanks better than glass? Plastic seems to be cheaper than glass though.
well, you can start with LFS who are specialize in aquascaping products and services.
TBH, last time i used normal guppy plastic tank as my tank, was cheap and easy to find but i realized in later stages,
you will have a hard time cleaning them thanks to GSA since you need to scrap them using razor blades sweat.gif

Hi All,
If ammonia level still maintain at 2 PPM, changing the water will help?
if youre tank is still newly set-up and/or in fishless cycle process, its normal.
for fishes to be happy, try to keep them near 0.
partial water change will help.

Hi Guys,

I faced a critical situation last week where 90% of my fish population and 1/2 of my aqua plants died after cycling about 40% of water change with Anti-Chlorine.

I had to separate my remaining fish to a separate tank while re-scaping and change whole tank of water. My fish survive but my aqua plants doesn't look too well. For your information, i'm using Seachem Excel and Flourish. Any hints of what went wrong?

*
hurm, like jctasoga said, youre plants melting probably due to changing to submersed form, you just recently bought them right? or you have bought them long time ago? ohmy.gif

is that a cobomba in the back? in front is vallisneria(?), some moss, anubias, and java fern? cant ID the rest. If thats a java fern on the right, are you burying its rhizome? if you are, attach them to a driftwood or rocks since they will starts to rot and melt slowly. cry.gif

Using Z-pro LED lights. Not sufficient lights? Or should i submerge the thing already and hope it will do better? I'm aiming for low tech though, so no CO2.

try reduce the water level in that container. looks a bit submerged to me. tongue.gif

You're right. second container mcm submersed ady. but too late. already planted whatever I have into the tank and added excel. Now just hoping everything wont melt. sweat.gif
*
lol, treat it as a learning curve la, next time, just makesure its moist, not soaking wer tongue.gif
btw, usually dry start ppl dont start dumping ferts hmm.gif , they only use it when the plants have been planted underwater.
but i think it depends on a person personal techniques and style of planting.
you never which one suits you the best until youve tried it.

anyone know if there is a shop selling SAE? looking for pairs of SAE for cleaning and controlling duty. Have bad luck finding one.

Fish depot will restock silver flying fox, between SAE and SFF, which one is better?

Thanks
*
i bought a pair of them when they are still small, until now, both of them still sucking on algeas(already 1+ year).
I think unless you always overfeed them with food pellets/flakes, they will gladly do their job. I only feed my tank once a week.

I did have SAE before, but once they grew bigger, they tend to attach my other fish.
I want to know if the SFF doing the same thing.

Anyone know where is the shop that have this fish in stock?
*
if youre looking for them, these LFS still have them in stock since my last visit last week;
Natural Aquatic SS19 Subang Jaya
Aquatic International, Nearby Subang Airport/ Sg. Buloh Nursery
Xian Leng Seksyen 23, Shah Alam
*price may greatly vary depending on store sweat.gif

if its too hard, i may have to adopt RCS instead of them. unsure.gif

just a suggestion from me:
large - very large tank = sump filter
medium - large tank = medium/large cannister filter
small - medium tank = small/medium cannister filter
nano tank = hob

usually for small tank under than 2ft, hob is used as extra bacta housing and to provide extra aeration and water flow on the surface.
for brand, it doesnt matter since its up to the user budget and needs.
want a good reliable and silent filter = branded and more pricey filter
but if you are a careful person, out of budget and wants to get a decent filter to get the job done = MIC filter is another option.
