Usually there are many reasons why cats behaving like this for example picky (if there's already poo in the litter box), upset stomach (they feel uncomfortable when pooping and associate that feeling when pooping in the litter box which means sometime they avoid using litter box because of that reason), health issue and many more.

You can try pickup your cat's poop from the litter box more frequently. You can try use different clay litter. You mentioned using clay litter but are they clumping or non-clumping? If non-clumping, change to clumping type. If you have a cage, try cage your cat with a litter box in it. For example caging your cat at night for a couple of days and then see whether this improved your cat behavior. If your cat still poop outside litter box in the cage, you should bring your cat to vet.

IMO, this sound like your cat misbehave than health issue though. Good luck.

Hi guys. My lovely cat is diagnosed with gingivitis and I have been taking her to vet frequently. Today took her to vet again because she doesn't eat properly these days and my family is really worry about her 😭 The vet just injected her with steroid and gave some antibiotics but lately the injections + meds seems like it's not really working like before because she seems to be in pain even after injection and on meds. For now i just started giving her multi vitamins + lysine as supplement (am I too late 😭) and bought plaqueoff and aquadent online but those two going to take a month or so to reach since they're from overseas. I'm afraid her condition will worsen if I'm not taking any actions now so I did some research and found out dental scaling might help. Any of you can recommend me good vets for ultrasonic dental scaling? Preferably Negeri Sembilan area or somewhere close. Also, any of you guys experienced the same with your cats? Thank you so much!

hv you read this?
http://m.petmd.com/cat/conditions/mouth/c_...ngivitis?page=1

how severe is the prob? best way is to get it properly cleaned by ultrasonic scaling, then dental care frm you everyday if u can. call up all vets in n9 , if cant find then bring to kl is the only way. those plaque off stuff cant remove existing plaque, u need to use it aft teeth has been properly scaled/clean.

yeah i have read most articles about it! her gums is really red but the vet said there's no need to remove her teeth yet. If can I want to avoid the worst. I don't want to have her teeth removed so I'm going to try my best to avoid it. Luckily the steroid seems to be working today so she eats more than before but she still cries in pain sometime 😭
Thank you for the infos and helping me out! Appreciate it a lot! Will be calling vets in n9 first then! I thought not cleaning cat's teeth won't be causing any problem, I'm totally a bad owner for not knowing about it 😥

wana be more environmental frenly?

in summary, if u got $$$ silica is best. cat oso like.
save money but not environ frenly, clay litter, can find cheapest.
flushasble litter like corn, soy type are $$$ more than silica.
pine pellet for me is messy n alot hard work, u can tanam the pine dust..

i think smart sift can only be used wit clumping clay. u can check online. theres clumping silica, but they add glue, it doesnt clump as hard as clay, so when u sift it breaks...

Your vet doesn't do scaling? I'm surprised that wasn't the first thing they recommended. One of my cats had gingivitis grade 3 and within two weeks of adopting her, they took her in for cleaning/scaling. She ended up having 9 teeth extracted, but that's not something that is guaranteed to happen for your cat.

How old is you cat? If it's young, then yes, send your cat in for cleaning. Reason why age is important is because older cats cannot handle the general anaesthetic that they will have to go under.
