Hi,
My cats also have problem with fleas. I've been bitten by the fleas also.
Have put spot on and shampoo the cats but still have fleas.
looks like your place is having flea infestation. My cats also have problem with fleas. I've been bitten by the fleas also.
Have put spot on and shampoo the cats but still have fleas.
first you have to read up and understand about flea life cycle.
then you will have some idea on how to control and prevent fleas.
it will save you $$$ without the need to call pest control ppl,

Depend on the severity of the infestation, it will take time to bring it under control,
time means months, not just a few days.
Most important thing is pls do not over " bath " your cats and over dose them with pesticide!
Front line spot on Works!
You just need to understand how it works.
And some extra steps is needed to make it more effective.
The dosage is once a month, do not use other brand of poison on the cat during that period.
too much poison is always not good.
Assuming your hse is infested, meaning there are fleas in all stages everywhere,
eggs, larvae, cocoon, adults..
so to get rid of all these, takes time.
restrict your cat 100% indoor.
Give it a bath, apply spot on/spray.
U need to vacuum n clean the entire hse, esp the places that your cat likes to hang out,
if cat sleeps on ur bed, on furniture... then all those places can have eggs , cocoons, larvae..
cocoons can be dormant up to 1 year it seems, so yes.. very tough n time consuming.
( all these infos u can find online )
so imagine the amount of work that you need to do
thts y some ppl keep cats strictly outdoor .. ( thts another story )
if u think pest control ppl charge alot,
the pesticide they use is always smelly.
if u want to DIY ,
u can go to hardware shop n buy these, mix n spray,
dont spray all over the floor, just along the walls n corners.
these pesticide have no odour, it can kill alot of other insects, termites, so be careful.
just like ridsect etc only, but these are more cost effective n have no smell + water based.
The active ingredient is the same for these 2, just that for these 2 labels, there is no odour.
keep it safe.
if the fleas do not bite you n other ppl at home, then u r lucky,
u can just use your cats as bait to kill all the fleas.
fleas need to be on your cats to feed.
it will take time.
back to " spot on" and other type of flea drops.
if ur cat is big, over 4 kg, it is less effective to use drops because,
you are instructed to drop the liquid behind the neck,
the poison is not able to spread to other parts of the cat effectively.
Fleas that likes to hang out around the backside, underbelly etc, wont' get in contact with the poison.
they wont get killed.
It is better to use frontline spray.
the spray poison concentration is way less than spot-on, so u need to use according to instruction.
and spray the entire body, ( minus the head ) be careful the eyes.

wear surgical gloves, and spread the liquid all over the skin, and let it dry out.
even tho the instruction did not state this, but it is better to e-collar the cat first, and wait for several hours or
one whole day, to let it dry out, before removing the collar.
when u manage to bring it under control, then u can start explore the natural remedies to prevent fleas.
good luck
flea bite on human skin, leaves a dark spot when healed.... fair skin ppl take note...
