Hi guys. I'm new here. Wanna ask something related to Fat Free Mass (FFM).

How accurate Tanita machine calculating our FFM? I'm getting skeptical here.

I've read online that we might gaining muscles on our workouts. Hence, we loss less weight due to that.

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks!

How to build muscles?

Most important is caloric surplus followed by consuming enough protein, working out and having adequate sleep/rest.

As for burning fat?

Caloric deficit. Eating enough protein as not to burn muscles instead of fat. Working out also helps to burn calories.

You can be the same person at 100kg, but either be muscular or obese.

Difference is body fat %.

Yes this is true. I'm on caloric deficit and eating enough protein, carbs and fat. I workout 5-6 times / week and 2 of the session is weight lifting.

I lose 7kg of fat and gained 5kg of FFM based on Tanita scale machine. So, total weight loss is 2kg only.

My question is, how accurate is the FFM on Tanita scale machine?

Some random video explaining FFM

BMI is good for estimating health status of a large population. You can't expect government agencies or other organisations to measure individual body fat%.

For individuals, body fat % and simply using the mirror is a better measure.

It's impossible for fats to convert into muscles.

Again, refer to Slimey's reply. Fats does NOT convert to Muscles.

Exercising helps to burn calories but any form of workout of exercise is pointless if you consume more calories than you burn. As a result, you will be gaining weight instead of losing.

The most effective way of burning fat is through your eating habits (caloric deficit) and working out helps quite a bit too.

I suggest you read the previous replies here carefully icon_rolleyes.gif

Bio-impedance machines are not accurate. But it's useful as a quick reference.

Do you look leaner in the mirror, e.g. less fats, more obvious muscles?

if you've been losing weight, have been eating enough protein and strength has been increasing, then likely you're progressing well.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm kinda motivated by your answer. grin.gif

Woah, awesome. Keep it up man.

Physical appearances aside, what you're really doing is saving yourself from being another mortality statistic.

And I do admire your dedication and drive.

Keep up whatever you're doing, but next thing, try reading on some good knowledge on proper nutrition when you have time.

Cheers man for those links. Just figure out that by pairing carbs and protein will helps build muscle.

Because I just can't give up brown rice bro. It's like fuel to me and I am so weak when I tried Keto diet.

There's no need for keto diet, seriously.

Plenty of veges and greens will help a lot. And enjoy your carbs from whole-foods, like your brown rice. smile.gif
