Hi im in LCHF diet and training heavy (amateur strongman)
So far my weight had drop 10kg after 3 month in LCHF diet.

Performance wise, my deadlift and squat has drop about 10%, my bench remain.

I stay on around 50g carbs(1/2 cups of dry oats x 2 per day). 0.75g protein per lb of BW from chicke n eggs, and my fats is from 5-6 yolks a day.

Workout wise, I do PLP off PLP(push, leg, pull), and I do powerbuilding style where i start with heavy 3x3 workset at 85% RM., then proceed with 4x12 BB style.

Always start with heavy compound first. I had carb refeed once in a week(150g carb).

In low carb you will definitely lose strength, but I BELIEVE your strength will regain after you start loading carbs again, atleast I hope so.
*
Do give your cholesterol levels, especially HDL, a check from time to time.

It is NOT gospel truth that eating lots of yolks and meat would not increase bad cholesterol levels, especially when there's lack of vegetables consumption, so just check, also uric acid levels.

Wow...only 21 years old...shouldn't be a problem for you if you determined to loose weight...great metabolism when young...I am much older than you but successful to reduce my weight for 18 kg for 1 year 2 months (i.e from 58 kg to 40 kg) and I am not tall. 105 kg seems obese...BMI 34.3. Try to reduce to BMI 24 or 73.5 kg is ideal for you.
To loose weight, Do remember the success key is "Discipline". Where a lot of people fail to do so.
1. No breakfast is a big NO NO in healthy diet. Breakfast shall eat more as it is source of energy for a start of day. Try to munch pieces of bread and a cup of Milo O or better is milk powder or some less/no sugar drink(assume your hostel no fridge). Wake up at 7am. Prepare and eat your breakfast. Carbo is important to be consumed in morning. Besides bread, you may try some oat, coco crunch (less sugar), home made pastry etc if any shop sell it and try make low or less sugar drink. Eating late breakfast will cause your body to gain weight even more.
2. Lunch can eat at normal volume as you need energy for the day. Try to look for some mix rice food which is less oily. For example, in stead of choosing fried tofu, try to eat steam tofu with less sauce (sauce is oily). Try to have some day eat less oily food. Eat less rice. Too much rice will increase your sugar level much more. Substitute the volume with vege or lean meat (steam fish or chicken). NO sugary and icy drink. Sometime can just eat mihin soup. Got class then bring some fruits or oat biscuits to eat instead of let yourself hungry. Need to remember: Let ownself hungry is not the correct way for successful weight lost. You end up eat more and gain weight.
3. Dinner you can have something light. Example is food high in protein like solely steam fish, steam chicken, fruit salad (NO Mayonaise as will ruin your diet, try substitute with yogurt or apple vinegar). Not recommend to have high carbo food for dinner. Eat before 8pm and make sure your stomach is empty 3 hour before you sleep.
4.Weight lost is a BIG NO NO for processed food like McD, Maggi Goreng, Burger. I admit when I was young like your age I love to eat those "rubbish" food. I now very regret of it. Can occasionally eat to avoid you too suppressed on your DESIRE to eat those food.
5. It is recommend to have fruits before meal is better. Especially low Glucose Index food (Food that have lower glucose rise in blood once consumed). For low calories food (natural one - no processed), you can eat more. Believe me, even though u eat 3 apples (210kcal) is better than you eat canned sugar apple (200Kcal). Eat more volume on natural fruits, vege (like sengkuang etc) than keropok. Natural food I believe can be found in canteen too, right? Yeap is more expensive, but healthier.
6. Oil and Sugar shall cut down. Not recommend to drink iced lemon tea. Try change to pure warm honey lemon. Lemon is good for detox and slimming. Lemon in hot water is alkaline and good for reduce weight and suppress your appetite. No coca-cola and other soft drink. Try limit 1 month 1 time. Even in mamak store, you can still drink. You can order Teh O, Barli Kosong, Air Lemon kosong etc. BIG NO NO to mamak teh tarik and kopi tarik cause too much sugar!
7. Want to eat junk food can. Eat those more healthy one. However, price will be higher. Such as less sugar prunes, cashew nuts, macademia nuts etc. Or any other foods which you identify its process is more natural and original. Please remeber that our body tends to keep all those "unknown" food chemicals from processed food; thus cause fatty body.
8. You are still young! Try do aerobics. 30 min per day. Even to walk 30 min also will do. The exercise you must feel hot and sweat only effective. No oily food after exercise.
*
So complicated. Let me simplify that for you.

Fruits (include orange) from the fridge for breakfast, because that's quick and saves time. Everyone's in a rush in the morning. Also, why even waste money on some sweet useless drink? Go for a cup of reduced sweetness coffee (or better still zero sugar) or green tea to get the energy boost.

Boiled/roasted potatoes/pasta for lunch + broccoli + spinach + steamed/grilled fish. Have some green tea.

Fruit and veg for the evening if you're feeling peckish. Add on a small handful of nuts for the healthy fats.

For dinner, eat the same as lunch.

Follow that daily, you will lose weight.

Of course, it's oversimplification. Do mix things up to include a variety of different foods so you wouldn't feel bored, as consistency and liking it are key factors to success.

One thing I haven't mentioned here is exercise. Because that's as important as drinking water everyday. Not doing it = buying an express pass to the hospital in future.

Well good summary. Just miss out one point which is dinner shall eat less as compare to lunch volume. Carbo reduce and vege fruit increase.Cut down on supper definitely helps reduce a lot of weight.

Just to share. My practice get me to reduce my cholesterol from 7.3 to 5.6 in 5 months time.

Simple rules:
NO processed food
NO oily and sugary food
NO supper
Dinner eat less or if hungry eat high fibre vege fruits
If no choice on food; choose best among the worst XD
*
You really don't need to make it so complicated. Timing doesn't play much of a role.

What matters more is how you find what is the right volume and satisfaction for yourself, in order to be consistent.

If carbs (like potatoes and spaghetti) work well to keep you full at night and conquer those late night snacking urges, that's great.

Just following the principles of eating whole, nutritious foods, with plenty of vegetables and fruits, is half the battle won.

I realize most people want to lose weight and focus too much on the weight, but did you know that weight is actually not as important as what is inside the weight?

You can lose 10kg of weight but are you actually losing 10kg of fats or are you also losing other important compositions in your body that you shouldn't be losing? E.g. muscle, water...? Losing muscle is a big no no!

Did you know that losing muscle is the reason why most slimming programs cause rebound and you end up becoming fatter than before you started! >.<

For those who are seriously looking to LOSE FATS or GAIN LEAN MUSCLE MASS, I will be more than happy to share my experience on how I get my ideal body and abs in 3 months time, without starving, eating nasi campur/local food with no rebound until today! What's the point of living when u are not allowed to eat right? wink.gif wink.gif

In terms of product? There are much better quality and value for money products out there.

But it's not solely about product, it's the coaching support that comes with it.

Note: I don't sell anything.

Fair enough. I apologize if I thought you were selling that nonsense. BUT,

A coach who endorses Herbalife support, I find his/her services dubious.

So, tell me, if the coach is reputable, why endorse that brand when  :-
*
Because they're trying to make a living. Same people like us who have babies and bills to pay for.

Similarly to a bank loan, some loan officers know their bank's loan product sucks compared to other banks, they admit it, but try to make it up to you with excellent service and consultancy. If the savings from other banks aren't an issue for me and this one ain't too shabby, I'd personally want to go for these guys.

In short, it's the brand that they are aligned with and get a payout from, due to the commission structure etc. I've asked them before, hey now that you've reached a critical mass in customers, why not use your own better, lower cost, self-branded protein? Sounds easy for spectators on the side, but in terms of business and finances, earnings stream, commissions structure, referral system (departing from the original structure), it would be a nightmare.

That aside, I have seen them (personal ones I know, say team of 5-10 coaches), successfully helping many lose weight (say approx 100-200 successful cases). Their customers are not too worried about the cost, these are the guys that loath stepping into the gym. They provide friendly support and organise fun bodyweight exercises, nature outings, bring in professional coaches, etc. at the same time using Herbalife products as a meal replacement (which by your BB standards is of course sucky), and guidance on how to change your eating habits and food choices.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be the first to criticise any Herbalife promoter who sells air and wonders, that's cheating and unethical. I'm neutral and even supportive of the particular team I personally know of.

I'm not a bodybuilder. I'm a hybrid powerlifting/performance/aesthetic athlete. And just because one is making progress does NOT equate to optimal progress. And I've known MANY cases of Herbalife customers (including some of my clients) paying excessive amounts despite being cash strapped because they want to believe in the ludicrous claims some of them give.

I'm not anti supplementation but I am pro minimalist. Don't get me wrong. I can see your POV, but I ask you this.

So, does "guidance on how to change your eating habits and food choices" involve weaning off Herbalife replacement shakes?
*
Realistically in a business, I'd understand if they stop short of killing their own business. It would be up to their clients to do so. At least they don't hound, don't promise the moon, and truly invest their time into helping their clients achieve a healthier lifestyle and body weight, not just making a quick buck.

I can imagine their satisfied clients having a herbalife meal replacement once or twice a day, eat less junk, more veg and fruits, while still enjoying iifym by eating Malaysian food like curry laksa and hokkien mee from time to time. Combined with the gourmet fruit/nuts/veg shakes (of course with herbalife protein as a base, though I've tasted them, they're worthy of my money) that they have at the coaching site or learnt to do at home after guidance from the coaches. Combine that with free weekly bodyweight group exercise sessions that are tailor-made to be fun, as well as nature outings.

Gotta give them credit for it. If they didn't make things taste good, didn't make the activities exciting, didn't give people decent results - so many factors too look into - the business would have failed by now with dwindling turn up rate.

Of course if you wanna be OCD and measure the value for money and what you can do yourself for free at home, it's far from optimal. But hey, they're transforming fatsos with high cholesterol into lean machines, sometimes with six packs. I'd praise them for it.

I can do a summary right now. You are trying to say you have friends at Herbalife, and while you know that there are more efficient ways to lose weight without their crappy shakes, you have to remain neutral because you don't want to hurt their business, so you try to say something nice about their products.
*
Nope, I'd support anyone who's trying to do a business.

Not exactly. I may not support many business for personal reasons, but no reason for dissing them because willing buyer willing seller, unless it's a sham or a scam.

For this case, the results are measurable. The effort is genuine, no corners cut, no pushiness, no selling the sky. The outreach in terms of numbers are quite an achievement. Just that the value for money is not, but that's subjective.

If I can't get a 100 people off the fast route to diabetes and CHD, why'd I start counting beans and dissing my friends' business.

I lose 5 -/+ kg this year and still stucked at 70kg.

I never take rice, just pasta, vege, salmon, wurst, low fat cheese, etc..

It's not about rice though. Try increasing mixed veg and boiled potatoes. While reducing the corresponding amounts of other foods. Would that work for you?

Less red meat, NO oily food..unless on cheat day.  brows.gif

Carbs doesn't make you fat. In fact boiled potatoes are really helpful in weight loss diets, as they fill you up much faster and longer compared to meats.

You should instead be worried about carbs that come from more processed foods like breads, biscuits, pastries, cakes, etc. which not only perform poorly in filling you up, but are usually laced with plenty of added fats to make it taste better.

Bring in more measurability. For example, I can pin down 99% of what I eat in a day easily. I start off with a small pack of some silly non healthful wholegrain biscuit in the morning, purely because I'm too lazy to make anything and also it's pretty hectic.

Lunch, I have an adult salad by salad atelier. Mix of boiled potatos, a little spiral pasta, sweet potatoes, bell peppers, lettuce, broccoli, beetroot, edamame, chickpeas, chickpeas again (protein), avocado, brussel sprouts. Dressing can be anything I like, usually lemon avocado.

Dinner if eating out sharing for two, I order fried/steamed tofu with some minced meat, rice, and a big plate of mixed vegetables. If alone I order mixed veg (with extra veg) with minced meat (just a little) and rice.

An apple/orange/banana as dessert at night after dinner.

Beverages, plain green tea and water all day. Why waste my money on unworthy and unhealthy drinks, unless it's a cup of premium brewed cappuccino or wine or something.

I try to eat similar during the weekends, because health comes first. But I also feel comfortable gorging on ice cream, chocolate, and other worthy premium desserts or even going overboard on beer, because I know I'm covered for the rest of the week.

I don't really use the word 'alot' because that's not measurable. But I'm guessing here that my veg/plants consumption, while it most likely is not enough to meet standard physician/global guidelines, could already be higher than yours.

Keywords are increasing whole plant based foods, consistency, measurability, being specific, and satiety.

Lunch I will have salad and / or beer.  brows.gif

Dinner - vege, salmon, pasta, wine, etc.

How much is a lot anyway?

Damn dude, I'm not eating for competition. I just want to slim down so that I can wear my wedding dress.  biggrin.gif

Thanks for the tip.

Too much of anything could make you fat, lol. Higher carb consumption doesn't. It's a myth.

How about this. Just Google up dietary plans from these two organisations: American heart association, and also Precision Nutrition. You'll see where your diet varies compared to theirs, you don't have to take it from me smile.gif

Well, if it works and doesn't affect my health, why not?

But I don't supplement like Herbalife, Shakeology, etc.
*
Calorie counting is not a myth per se. The general rule applies to most, with say 10% variance among people. But the practical applications can work for some, and it doesn't work for some.

Here's the problems related to calories counting:

http://www.precisionnutrition.com/problem-...ing-calories-in

And here's a much better way of doing it, portion sizing and forming new food choice habits

http://www.precisionnutrition.com/calorie-control-guide

What I'm trying to portray is, if you follow healthy eating guidelines and the guidance on how much plants, greens and fruits to eat per day, you probably don't even need to calorie count.

My daily calorie intake is between 1500 - 2000.

My ratio is 40: 40 : 20 carbs to fat.

Precision nutrition is a renowned service, just read their free blog to get more insight.

Why don't you follow something simpler:

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsourc...y-eating-plate/

If you realise, precision nutrition and Harvard are promoting the same thing, ie forming new habits in food choices and portion sizing. The key difference between them is that the former uses your hands as a guide the latter uses a plate size.

No such machine...the most accurate machine out there is through hydrostatic body fat testing...
*
To weigh in on the topic, I think ultrasound test might be the most accurate.

Anyway, Lurker, why do you need one? Is it important to you to have highly accurate measurements due to a sport or high performance activity or something? If not, anything would do, jist a good regular one, as the money is best spent elsewhere.

QUOTE(ripplezone @ Feb 26 2016, 07:15 PM)
If you don't need so accurate numbers, which are usually for competition, then the best is just compare to the mirror and pictures online.

Look up Google Images for body fat percentage, that would give you a good guideline on your category.

Combine that with a second more accurate and almost free way, is to use the tailors' measurement tape, and measure your neck and belly.

Then input those figures into this calculator: http://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp...c=Body-Fat-Navy

The numbers are good enough.
*
Also, you should be tracking your own habits in food choices and amount of exercise instead.

Good habits are hard to form.

Results would naturally follow the habits, and you don't have to worry about them.

4) Semi Vegetarian/Blue Zone diet
5) Vegetarian
6) Vegan

In the context of diet and weight loss, whichever that you can adhere to easily trumps all.

This is usually a flexitarian / IIFYM - with both having a good dose of plants.

However if you based on the sole factor of ideal nutrition, plant-based/vegan is likely to trump all.

BMI is good for estimating health status of a large population. You can't expect government agencies or other organisations to measure individual body fat%.

For individuals, body fat % and simply using the mirror is a better measure.

Yes this is true. I'm on caloric deficit and eating enough protein, carbs and fat. I workout 5-6 times / week and 2 of the session is weight lifting.

I lose 7kg of fat and gained 5kg of FFM based on Tanita scale machine. So, total weight loss is 2kg only.

My question is, how accurate is the FFM on Tanita scale machine?

Some random video explaining FFM

*
Bio-impedance machines are not accurate. But it's useful as a quick reference.

Do you look leaner in the mirror, e.g. less fats, more obvious muscles?

if you've been losing weight, have been eating enough protein and strength has been increasing, then likely you're progressing well.
