In the land of USA where almost everything is measured differently to the rest of the world, fuel is of course rated differently, they use a MON (Motor Octane Rating) which means a smaller number than the RON rating we're used to.
91 RON is the standard fuel available in Australia, which means anything Euro and Proton desire a more premium brew, 95 and 98 RON are commonly available but cost a painful amount extra, myself being cheap use an ethanol blend that adds a few RON points and is even priced less than the standard 91 it's mixed with but should result in poorer economy due to ethanol containing less energy.

I beg to differ mate.

Sauce http://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/...ss_octane_than/

US does have ron rating of 88.

I have tried a full tank of Ethanol 20 or more popularly called Gasohol 20 when I was holidaying in Thailand 2012.

The full tank of around 32 plus litres of Gasohol 20 brought me from Krabi to Penang... a whopping 600+kms. Normal malaysian ron95orron97 gives me 460kms max

I am not sure what type of ethanol mixed petrol is sold in Aus but it is proven that Thailand invested heavily to churn out top notch Ethanol based petrol and the results show.

US rating is different. RON91 is minimal compatible, for our crapro engine as long unleaded R91 is minimum compatible fuel. With higher RON may not benefit on performance, will do no harm, but will bring other benefits such as cleaner environment/extend engine oil life(due to low residue)/cleaner exhaust/extend catcon life and many others. I believe no one would ever be so "clever" go and dyno with a rubbish car to see R95 and R97 fuel performance.

It is true back in the older days where we still selling RED dye R92 fuel, my fuel filter is clogged up regularly. I'll have to clean my carburetor like every month, otherwise will sure see red runnings at the bell mouth. If down to 3 months no carb cleaning, will see sludges built around the intakes. So, I do believe current R95 is cleaner(or probably yellow dye is unnoticeable laugh.gif )
Agree. Got link ar, would like to read about it nod.gif

Yes our crapro engine ... ron91 above is enough.

Even god car is ron91 compliant...

I strongly believe, the sudden switch from ron92 to ron95 was a gimmick by stupiak gov to increase petrol prices from rm1.30to rm1.91... during the stupiak bodohwi era.... and that out petrol is just rebadged ron92 sold as so called ron95... and our ron95 hupgraded to ron97... to charge stupiak people rm2.70... or should i say to cheat stupiak people

That E85 is a different brew again, it's not commonly available, I've yet to see it at a filling station, and it's not suitable for many cars either.
The stuff I use has only 10% ethanol added, and as I've said should result in poorer economy but the jury may be out on that as it real life it ain't necessarily so.
Some chemical voodoo magic could occur due to the oxygen content in ethanol and lambda sensors.

Are you voicing out for unfairness? And who told you there's a fair chance in life? The only thing that's fair to everyone is death. Instead of resentment, might as well turn it to be energy. Who knows 1 day mods/admin could be your customer? whistling.gif

Yesterday noticed got oil at the pipe there, pulled out the pipe very easily and found EO there, is that normal? Traced the pipe linked to air intake pipe.

Hot EO vapor released and channeled to the air intake to be reburned in the combustion chamber. Sorry my ayat tunggang langgang

It's easy to pull out because got oil. That is the breather pipe. The one next to it on right which is smaller is also a breather pipe that goes into your Intake Manifold. See my profile picture. I connect both into a OCT so no EO vapor goes into the TB and into the Intake Manifold.

Hi Bro... notworthy.gif

Pls allow me 2offer my "IINM" perspective of abv... tongue.gif
The hose that is connected 2the point after the air filter box, is as yu called it the "breather" pipe ie it allows the rocker cover space 2"breathe".
It allows filtered air 2b sucked into the rocker cover area.
That "clean" filtered air wld replace the air (with EO vapour in it) sucked out fr the rocker cover via the other hose into the intake manifold...

Sincerely hope Bros can picure the flow...

As such, the breather hose shld not hv EO vapour/oil...normally... whistling.gif
However if engine is revved high frequently, the suction @connection pt after filter box may b higher than normal resulting in EO vapour drawn out there, too!!

Apologies 4being long-winded lo... icon_rolleyes.gif
