I am looking for more info as I am looking for jobs to work in Singapore recently and I am glad that thread like this existed and help those of us who have lots of unanswered question in our mind. Kudos to all the seniors for keeping this thread alive.

Having asking most ppl in KL without any knowledge or experience working in Singapore is like a nightmare as 1 would tell you it's good to head to SG and then you have the rest 10 ppl telling you how bad it is to work in SG, this lar, that lar.

I want to ask how long would one takes to pass the immigration dept queue from JB to SG using 1)bus or 2)bike.

What is the best time to reach JB customs to start queueing? Any difference between CIQ and Tuas checkpoint?

Thanks.

If you can afford it, definitely should take flight back and forth kl-sg
I've been working here a while and never took the bus, maybe coz I still have that malaysian thinking that buses sucks big time.

Anyway, would definitely try it out someday too though. Peak hours and public holidays should take you 2 hours across the causeway, immigration included.

before i think...due to restriction
married couples should be more welcomed to boost birthrate if they convert too. laugh.gif laugh.gif

All current and former Work Permit holders are required to seek approval from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) before marrying a Singapore citizen or permanent resident.

An MOM spokesman said in an e-mail response: "If a foreign worker marries without the necessary approval, he/she may be barred from entering Singapore for a period of time.

I asked my boss (from china), when he come SG he immediately ROM with her wife in Singapore, then he apply PR and success, then after two years he apply Citizen also success as well.

I think the restrictions will apply to a female under work pass planning to married with PR or SC, i remember my gf receive a letter from MOM and the message is about "married to PR or SC != you will get PR easily" yawn.gif yawn.gif

Thanks.

I hope so... Actually my plan is i will apply PR alone then only ROM with my gf, but my future mother-in-law (work in SG over 20 years), she said ROM before apply PR is better, i may attach my spouse into one application and the chance of getting PR is higher, is this true?

Thanks!

Nobody can be sure of the answer.

Good point of married couple: You are perceived to be more mature, more responsibility and less prone to create trouble.

Bad point of married couple for your case: Your wife is a WP. She has restriction by MOM. She may have negative impact and drag you down in your application.

A double edge sword.

Frank3 Check your wife IPA what it says. Not all WP holders have the limitation that cannot marry SC/PR, the more higher educated ones typically there will be a clause to waive that limitation.

I would like to suggest you to take flight back to KL because it is waste of time Q ing at CIQ and inhale bad smoke while Q ing up in Bus platform .
Nowadays, flight ticket are damn cheap plus save a lot of time to reach your destination.
Good luck ..

If you got PR, your wife still on WP, she would have married a PR, not allowed for WP!

Anyone can share how much would it cost to purchase a cheap HDB at SG? Is it affordable for families with household income of 6-8k?

I assume you haven't even step foot in SG yet? PRs can only buy resale after 3 years. Generally it takes at least 1-2 years after you start working then only can get PR approval. So you're looking at 4-5 years before you can buy, plenty of time to save up icon_idea.gif

Alternately do the patent pending washabushi method of short cut to buy BTO instead of resale by marrying a sinkie.

Sorry as i have not been clear. Thank you guys for the reply. notworthy.gif As mention by @crazy25kid I would be staying in JB while working in SG full time. The reason i asked on the public transportation is because when i was queuing using car to get into SG, I saw the buses queue is much faster than cars entering SG. That was about 3 years ago if i remember correctly.

Just want to ask anyone who took buses and motorcycles and see if there is much comparison in these 2 mode of transportation. I don't mind walking if taking bus is faster than motorcycle. But i have a motorcycle at home too. So I'm looking for more info on these 2 mode of transport. smile.gif

A lot of ppl told me that to go into SG, I would need to Q as early as 4 to 5 am. Is it true? Thanks.

Depends on where your workplace is in SG. Huge difference if you are working in woodlands vs working in jurong or tampines.
