Hey all. I am thinking on an offer to work in SG from Feb next year onward.
Company is MNC and I think career progression should be good, will never know for real until I start there.

For those working in SG, do you think 4 - 4.5k enough for a 24 yrs old, single and not the type to really splurge, as I want to save some money to bring back Malaysia.

Plus, will be working in Shenton Way, where to stay ya?

Thank you!

Been searching on ibilik.sg and easyroomates, but can't really tell which place is decent.

I don't like dodgy places. smile.gif

SG is "Sterilized Asia." The only place that qualifies as 'dodgy' is probably only Geylang. Other than that, your choices are between Mature estates (with older, pricier accommodation and a lot of facilities like eateries, malls, town centers, etc), and new estates (newer, cheaper accommodation but sacrifice on convenience).
*
Wow. thanks for this advice. While saying dodgy, I have places like Bukit bintang cheap flats and those in Jelatek which has Myanmar Expats screaming down the block etc. I know these are some of my friends working Pet but still can stay there.

Can you be so kind to name me 3 good areas which are like SS2, PJ or wangsa maju area? Real clean, close to MRT and convenient smile.gif

4-4.5k is good enough already. If you dun splurge I think U will definitely save more than 1k. Which company in Shenton Way? I will be working around there too. Still finding place to stay while waiting for EP to be approved.

Guys. How much is considered high working in SG?

I believe there is some difference between how much fresh grad is getting paid in Msia and SG.

Let's say, if you have 1.5 years experience, Msia offering RM4800, SG offering (3600, no cpf so +632 = total 4232sgd), which one to go for?

malaysia = IT operations work, permanent staff
SG = SAP implementation work, permanent staff + chance to travel.

You sure they will pay your cpf portion if you not pr? Most companies don't do that
*
That's the thing, because non-pr, thus no CPF. So the company is giving compensation directly as cash which is 17%o of the basic salary. smile.gif

Pretty sure, coz that is part of the package offered. I thought all companies do this for non-pr, so, only a select few companies will do this (giving 17% of basic as cash) ?

Do all companies pay CPF for non PR staff? More specifically, do accounting firms do that?

The CPF portion would help so much in terms of rental.
*
Now I'm not sure of that, I saw it in the offer letter and I assume that as Non-PR will not get CPF anymore (under Singapore law), so by law too, they have to pay the CPF portion and this extends to all other companies as well. Googling turns out nothing.

PR PMEs get higher monthly income than Singapore citizens: Manpower Minister

SINGAPORE: The gross monthly income of full-timed employed residents who are professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) is higher compared to Singaporean citizens, said Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin in Parliament on Monday (Jan 19).

"As compared to Singaporean PMEs, the gross monthly income of resident PMEs is higher since Permanent Residents typically have to display good employability before they are granted residency," Mr Tan said, in reply to a Parliamentary question from MP Patrick Tay Teck Guan.

For instance, the gross monthly income for PRs and Singapore citizens for the 50th percentile is S$7,018 and S$6,886, respectively, according to data from the Manpower Ministry.

Well, at least their countries are promoting competition and won't use this report to force companies to reduce PR's income.

There are 4 types of permit. Are you the "work permit" type, which is for those under 1.2k salary range?

Dont go and ask manpower, they will not answer you.

Hi guys, i am going to drive home to penang for the coming CNY. I am taking leave on 18th (Wed). If i start driving on 17th night, what would be a good time to start the journey? am thinking of 12 midnight to avoid the jam.

Drove back a few times before but not during CNY.
*
CNY should be fine from south -> north. If raya though, that's a whole different story, you have to travel 2 days before the actual raya.

Anywhere on green line or red line within ~10 mrt stops will be good.
Go for stops with (relatively) big town centers, example Bedok, Tiong Bahru, Toa Payoh, Ang mo kio.
PM MacKiddo or Lester1987 to be added to the malaysians in SG whatsapp support group for more immediate answers to questions.

There's a group for this? Can I join? Just started working here. smile.gif

I googled and found that it says if u courier stuff from Sg to Msia, your items will get held up at customs for one month at least. Is this true?

If gonna be held up, might as well take bus to Johor and use poslaju.

I am looking for more info as I am looking for jobs to work in Singapore recently and I am glad that thread like this existed and help those of us who have lots of unanswered question in our mind. Kudos to all the seniors for keeping this thread alive.

Having asking most ppl in KL without any knowledge or experience working in Singapore is like a nightmare as 1 would tell you it's good to head to SG and then you have the rest 10 ppl telling you how bad it is to work in SG, this lar, that lar.

I want to ask how long would one takes to pass the immigration dept queue from JB to SG using 1)bus or 2)bike.

What is the best time to reach JB customs to start queueing? Any difference between CIQ and Tuas checkpoint?

Thanks.
*
If you can afford it, definitely should take flight back and forth kl-sg
I've been working here a while and never took the bus, maybe coz I still have that malaysian thinking that buses sucks big time.

Anyway, would definitely try it out someday too though. Peak hours and public holidays should take you 2 hours across the causeway, immigration included.
