I have slight astigmatism, does that means I can't become a pilot already? :S
I read someone said he got 400 degree astigmatism but still get 6/6 for eye test. Mine is 75 degree... Added on November 9, 2008, 11:35 pm QUOTE(chew1991 @ Oct 25 2008, 03:19 PM) SFTC is sydney flight training center... If now you go to Mas webpage, you will find that they are employing private cadet pilot already, but you still hav to go through their test. MAS used to be don't employ private pilot, but now, they start to employ them, guess they are running out of pilot very rapidly as most of them will leave to other airline as soon as their bond is finish. My cousin brother haven't finish the bond, he said you just have to pay the balance amount of "school fees" then you can leave anytime. He is now in Emirates, with double salary of MAS.will MAS or AA hire freshmans from other flight school?? coz im afraid i will be unemployed later.... and to convert an australian license to a malaysian license takes how long? For AA, you can apply anytime as long as you have the license, I talked to some high executive in AA, he said he has a friend, got a licence, but failed in the AA test(SPM level test), he tried 3 times then at last, he succeed to be a pilot for AA. I'm curious about something anyway to those that is already crew of SIA. I've heard Cargo earn more than mainfleet and of course, SilkAir. Why is that? Does the same applies for a Captain? Since mainfleet does earn about 50% more for its allowance as compared to their FO while Cargo pay seems to be the same for their out-of-base pay. And is it true that Cargo get paid a mere income as a trainee no matter you got a degree or not as contradicting with mainfleet and SilkAir? What's the big difference then between Cargo and the others?
And also, since the plane used by the Cargo consists of 747s and they are more than 6 yrs old already. Are they going to be replaced by the 777s of mainfleet or those new intake of planes which i seriously doubt since they usually use a "new" plane for the passengers of mainfleet. Mind enlighten me anyone? |

Freighter boys earn more than their main fleet colleagues kah? I guess they have to compensate them in one way or another since they may be missing out a bit on the "socialising with cabin crew" department hehe.
I think they're paid the same allowances according to their academic qualifications without regards to which fleet they're assigned to. But I heard that some cadets have trouble getting their allowances (degree) since SIA won't recognise their degrees. Hence they end up getting only SGD500. The jumbos are not going to be replaced anytime soon... i believe cargo operations operate on another efficiency model, different from the passenger operations. Just look at all those MD-11Fs, A300s and A310s still roaming the skies! Perhaps some 777s will be converted, since they're on their way out soon once the new buses arrive. |

Hi, not to upset everyone here but just some kind advices.
For those who interested to become a pilot, be prepare to face the following risks. 1) Pilot is an extremely high risk job 2) Pilots have an extremely high risk to suffer from permanent hearing fatigue due to several different flying environments, including aviation operations, laboratory studies and high-fidelity simulations. 3) Pilots may also suffered from prolonged health problems due to different flying times and jetlet. 4) Insurance companies may charge higher premiums for pilots. 5) It is extremely difficult to apply for credit cards from some financial institutions due to some obvious reasons. 6) When you have family later on, you will spend most of your time flying instead of with your family. Why I am familiar with the above risks? Because my cousin is a pilot. |

QUOTE(DashI @ Sep 24 2008, 03:33 AM) Hey guys, my height is around 1.64m, and I did apply for the cadet pilot, and received an email for phase 1, but what's stopping me is about the stringent height requirement. I am very afraid that if I go for the interview, they would reject me at once upon seeing my height, I have past experiences flying in youth flying club, and that's why I am trying to apply for this post..please give me some advice. Are there any pilots below the height of 1.65m? my height only about 160cmthe minimum requirement is 163cm i need at least 3 more cm to reach the minimum requirement i wish my dad can help me about this Added on November 27, 2008, 10:49 am QUOTE(mrfido @ Jun 27 2008, 04:50 PM) i just received a letter from MAS yesterday when is the next intake?i ve to attend a psychomotor test on 2nd july next week.... can someone share ur experience here pls.... where do you check about this info? i want to try my luck too ref: http://skorcareer.com.my/blog/how-to-be-a-...nse/2008/04/13/ http://skorcareer.com.my/blog/how-much-sal...arn/2008/07/10/ http://ggifa.org/images/GGIFA%20Course%20Information.pdf http://forum.flydamnit.com/index.php?topic=98.0 This post has been edited by POYOZER: Nov 27 2008, 11:14 AM |

fresh grad MAS = about 6k depending on how much u fly also.
Airasia i know more la, cos im an SO there now. Fresh: 2k a month for the duration of ur Type Rating, then 7-8k a month depending on ur hours. After 2 or 3 years goes up to like 11k (i think 2k++ hours) after another year or so (2750 hours or something) goes up slightly higher then captain basic = 12500, per hour u get like 195, so 30k++ a month. captain now got age limit.. minimum age 26. this is all gross pay, i lazy to count after income tax and shit. my advice is, if you can afford to go private, just go and get license. then join airasia. after you finish your contract you can ciao and go arab or something. or SIA. joining MAS will be very slow, i have friends graduated from flying school 1.5 years before me and still hadnt finished their training when i got out. now also i think starting sim onli. if you join as a cadet, lagi slow. my friend grad same time as me (May last year) still havent got call from MAS to start training. so right now, airasia is your only choice. cadet programs make you wait too long, and after that your soul belongs to the airline cos u are bound to them for like 15 years. QUOTE If my cousin didn't take physic, does he still can learn piloting? Even private? can, i had a few friends from arts stream in flying school. but private la, cadets im not sure. QUOTE(cybergear03 @ Mar 14 2006, 08:57 PM) 2 of my friend are doing their courses with MAS right now. Every intake they only take 16 person from thousands that applied. If you were shortlisted, you will have to go for 4 phases of interview and then only they inform you whether you are succesfull or not. If you get it, you'll have to complete 1 year courses (subjects, exams etc) and then another 6 months for simulator training. That's what i know. But your SPM result must be really impressive (straight A's etc). Not really straight As, classmate of mine whose graduate 1999, spm with agg 21, with physics C3 , Add Maths, C6, Maths A1 also can get in.He is FO now |
