Persandingan tertangguh

Oleh Syazwan Msar
am@hmetro.com.my

Hi there,

Was wondering if any of the gents here can advise on an aircon compressor issue.

Mine's leaking pretty badly, and the AC guy says that it can either be fixed or replaced. There's no assurance for how long a fix, costing around RM200 including oils, servicing, etc., would last and a reconditioned one (no brand was stated) would cost around RM500.

I'm wondering:

1. What your thoughts are on reconditioned compressors.

2. Is it worthwhile trying to find (and buy) a new compressor - fully appreciate that the item might be scarce.

3. If a new original part cannot be found, what are your thoughts and advice on a Sanden SD507 or SD5S11 as an alternative - I can see if I can get a locally built one from Singapore rather than one from China.

The current (and leaking) compressor is a Danso (yes, not a Denso) 10PA15VL, which the label states is made in Japan. I've not heard of this brand - wondering if it's a Denso knockoff.

or, any other recommendations?

1) hit or miss, if you lucky, no issue.
if unlucky, the damn compressor is out of spec anyways (pressure, capacity etc) and it'll bog down your entire air cond system or even sap too much power from the car.

2) as per below, find uni car, they got original brand new denso parts.
give them a call to confirm on details/pricing/availability

3) cant comment on this as no experience with sanden or danso/knockoff.

500? you might as well pay for a brand new original denso that provides better guarantee/assurance to your air cond system.

i personally would advise you to go for uni car at ulu klang there.

Thanks Quaza!

Just a question ...I read somewhere that the Denso compressors (over Patco, for example) tend to sap too much power from the car, would you know this to be true or just a myth?

if you have out of spec compressors (larger ones for example), doesnt matter any brand, it will sap power from your engine.

Dear all sifu, wanna ask something, iswara a/b 2002.

I have problem with knocking sound(most probably bush, not ignition timing). This happen during acceleration, or "sometimes" when run through the uneven road.

A. Just changed both side lower arm, cause the ball joint is a bit loose aldy. So for passenger side is settle, however, the driver side still have that minor knocking sound(not so loud compare to before this). Satay bush still in good condition.

B. And one more, during idling or air-cond running, at around 0.8k rpm, the knocking sound more louder from engine bay(engine mounting??). But when I rev rpm up to 1k, then no more that sound already. It is very noticeable when rpm at 0.8k with air-cond running.

Any idea? Thank you very much.

since it seems to be limited to the engine bay, try to jack up your car (preferably full lifters) at workshop, sit inside car and do some revving/accelerations and have the mechanic underneath to troubleshoot

Totally. I was referring to on spec compressors tho - something to do with rotary vs piston types.

Let's watch the vid again shall we

Well, I can't tell for sure, but on 2nd gear 7krpm 90kph makes a lot of sense to me. I once also 4toto, overclocking my tachometer at unkonwn region nod.gif So yeah, my 2nd gear most of the time break 110kph ady flex.gif May be need jedi_master confirm it. The craziest breed I've seen was once I saw an unknown engine head with a SATURN wording on the rocker cover, whilst a familiar 4G1x block at the bottom. Came to know it was a 4G15 block oversized to 1.7 running on a 1.2lit 4G11 head to make it ultra high compression rclxub.gif U know la, small town do budget mods, all kinds of rojak came alive at these rural area when I was in kampong.

Something look like this, but engine orientation is transverse.

Seriously? "Pretty souped up"? This video's 0-100 is about 10-11 seconds. My previous LMST (which I unfortunately and sadly have to part with), does it in 9 - 9.5 seconds. I think i still have the 0-100 video that i recorded before i sold it haha.. Should post it up someday. smile.gif I do miss that car and manual tranny. But if you ask me if I wanna own a saga lmst again? .... Nah.
