Getting Started

|
Tried the demo. Its fun as hell. Runs okay on an AMD 64 3k 1gig 6600GT at 1024 x 768. I read many low mid range PCs work fine with it. But mostly are based on the demo version. I sure hope it will stay the same for the full one. Delayed due to shortage <----- at S/W botique website lmao. https://www.tsb.com.my/

Well according to the forums there's a widescreen issue with the game.
Apparently 4:3 mode increases the vertical fov or something like that so that on widescreen it's cropped 16:10.. or something like that. tbh i didn't read enough to find out what the issue was

With regards to the widescreen issue, seems like they're STILL looking for a suitable solution for it (at least based on some comments by Ken Levine and the Bioshock forums administrator). This is the reason why I'm holding off my Bioshock preorder until they find a way to solve this black bars problem.
I find this absolutely unacceptable as they should have done some Q&A on the product before releasing it. We PC gamers may look forward to a patch or fix that can rectify this problem, but console gamers are gonna have a field day when that happens, since it may be impossible to patch the game. Apart from holding out on Bioshock, I'm also holding out on my new widescreen LCD purchase after I found out about this. A real, bloody inconvenience.
But the biggest disaster to actually be discovered after the Bioshock release is the 2-times-only installation of the game. Apparently, Bioshock's SecureROM binds the game to the hardware, so you can install only a maximum of two times before the game is rendered useless. There is, however, a backdoor solution that has been suggested by 2K Interactive themselves. That is, by uninstalling the game first before reinstalling a fresh copy on a newly formatted system. What on Earth?

bah... vertical- for 1680 x 1050 resolution users... damn 2k. Is this suppose to be 'widescreen'???? And they cropped it without reasons at all. Though Battlefield 2 is much more suxx on widescreen support.. at least there's some stupid justification from EA. About the registration procedure.. I don't really care about whether it is 2 times or 5 times or whatever. What I care is I need the stupid moron alzheimer retarded 'INTERNET' to either reinstall it or uninstall it. Where the hell can I find internet connection in my hostel????? What.. they expect me to bring my casing to Gelugor.. pay the cc owners RM10 and use the internet there or perhaps.. go back to my hometown in Perak and spend RM50 just to uninstall the game?? Retarded 2k.. And they did it all to curb piracy... yeah right. I bet lots of people are downloading it via torrent now and perhaps some of them are already playing.. WITHOUT BUYING ORIGINALS!!! the only reason why I still don't join them is because I still have some hopes of buying original. Heck.. I save up so my money just to play this game AND SUPPORT ORIGINALS. And yet 2k nice move have halted me from doing so.. so much for supporting originals... QUOTE(Joseph Hahn @ Aug 24 2007, 11:01 PM) What widescreen issue ? Don't tell me it's on Nvidia cards... Well.. most new game with label "Games for Windows" like BioShock are supposed to support Horizont+ widescreen... like most of other new games out there. But BioShock only have a widescreen support of vertical- which means.. widescreen users will have lesser field of view than normal screen users.

It's amazing how blatantly such high-profile producers disregard the interests of PC gamers. It's hard to understand how the implementation of such sadistic protection measures (e.g. SecureROM, Starforce) can actually prevent piracy. It's like punishing people for being honest. Well, thank your stars that Bioshock didn't implement Starforce. Otherwise, you can totally forget about playing it forever.
It's bullshit like these that made me question if it was a good decision to actually get a brand new rig just to play this game. After being royally screwed financially, I (or rather, we) have to face unnecessary obstacles to get it up and running. This is basically discrimination on PC gamers, as console gamers don't have to go through all this Internet-only registration crap to play this game. So much for working my @ss off overtime to buy the original copy.
Despite all that, I still have extremely deep respect for the efforts put into making Bioshock, the only game that actually made me spend RM2K plus on a whole new rig. Maybe we should all make an online petition to show 2K Games that we mean business. Or maybe they just don't give a $hit about us PC gamers? After all, Bioshock WAS developed first for the 360........
