Hello,

I decided to go for international market in ebay after selling locally for quite sometime to gather internet business experience, now I am gathering information on courier service to US.

I decided to use pos malaysia service(Malaysia Boleh), I don't want EMS because the price is too expensive. So I came across the their servic and saw this 3 service:

1)Mail
2)Parcel
3)Pos Laju/EMS

My product is handphone straps, which is around 100-200gram including envelope. Which services is recommended? I also notice Surface mail and Air mail, what is the different? United states is which zone?

Please help me on this, thanks and appreciate if anyone here can give me the shortcut to those answer. Or else I need to go pos office and ask.

If I buy something from ebay, the item is shipped to my house directly or I need to collect it at kastam?

if the item u purchase pass thru custom....then it will deliver to your house if that is the shipping address as u requested.

but if kena custom tahan, then u need to go to LCCT Pos Malaysia Custom and pay whatever tax if applicable.

This is a repeat of my post somewhere else. Perhaps it might help with cheaper but safer Postal Services.

Pos Malaysia suprised me with the same volumetric weight charges not too long ago too but I guess it makes sense nowadays.

Poslaju has always been the cheapest courier and I guess in order for them to earn they now also go with volumetric weight. That being said, sending a CD Rom in a shoe box for instance, no matter how light that item is, heck, you can even send just the shoe box which i think will weigh only 200grams youll be slapped with a 1 KG charge because of volumetric weight calculations.

It works also that way I think because as a courier service, space in their vehicles to carry stuff anywhere is important. Thus if 5 people were to send 1 CD but packed in a shoe box, that space could have been occupied by larger heavier items which will actually bring more revenue for the courier folks.

So yes space is an issue.

That being said, big courier companies have known this all along, thats the reason why they cost higher than normal Poslaju. That also being said, Poslaju now then makes it a fair deal for bigtime heavy shippers to use their service more, they now want to compete with the big boys.

Yes, much can be said about their services ( although i for one found them to be VERY reliable ) but in hard times such as now, you cant earn big bucks with RM5 shipping. Neither is it fair to pay ( my personal opinion ) RM 5 for a very long wrapped up poster when Poslaju will also need to ensure those are stored in their trucks without being bent. Not to mention the poor Postmen on Motorcycles driving up to your house with a pole like thing stuck under their armpit laugh.gif

But no fear, I learnt something well from another safetrader here on one of our Safe Trades transactions. E-Parcel.

Now for most times we use Poslaju simply because we wanna track the bloody thing.
The thing is Poslaju sucks bigtime in that they only have the item on the online site either one working day after you sent the item or when the item finally reaches doh.gif To some of course time is of the essence. But if you dont really mind BUT still wanna track your items and WANT to pay less = E-Parcel.

The tracking for E-Parcel starts with a CD instead of an EN for Poslaju but they are cheaper, also reliable and can be tracked.

That could actually be the solution for Expensive mess of shipping.
And oh, they dont GO by volumetric weight too.

Cons ? They are slow, where Poslaju delivers in 1 or 2 days they do it within 3-5 days if its within the same region. For Sabah and Sarawak if youre shipping from East Malaysia itll take about 2 weeks.

You decide wink.gif

Maknok's correct.
It depends also on the item you are purchasing. Most of the time as long as the item cost inclusive of shipping is less than RM500 itll get through Customs without issues.
That also depends of course what the seller puts on the package. Some sellers may put item to be say USD150 worth and shipping USD50 for instance although the item
only costs USD70. This is of course for the sellers protection on shipping claims insurance in case it gets lost but Customs Malaysia may just treat it differently.
Ive also shipped Books in before, they weigh a ton something like 20kg's but since they costs only RM450 in total inclusive of shipping, they came right through to the doorstep without any issues smile.gif

i think if you want to send to sabah/sarawak, better use nationwide. its RM 12 but reaches in a day from selangor. and its not limited by the size brows.gif they count it all by weight.. its rather expensive but i trust them more than having my parcel wait in the post office and sent in 2 weeks (could be squished by then)

hi all...

i found out that postlaju headquarters can post items with normal weight price if the item not more than 30cm x 30cm x 30cm... no matter the weigh..

but if you were to go to pos office....they will charge you volumetric price for light but big item less than 30cm x 30cm x 30cm....

this is because they were told by pos laju to charge this way...
so pos office will not give according to weight price...

if you still wan to enjoy the weight price, you will need to go to headquarters of pos laju...the "pusat"...
the pos office lady told me so...

and i had tried at several post office, i get volumetric price..but the same item...at headquarters of pos laju is weight price....

hehe....^^

so you all can try...

There should not be any charges actually mate since your item is a computer related item. Have a look at the official customs Malaysia website at http://tariff.customs.gov.my/

Search for computer. Youll find anything related to it will not get taxed even if you got yuorself an expensive RM25K Machine.

In the event it does get stopped though you can appoint Pos Malaysia as an agent (theyll contact you ahead for any items shipped via mail that gets stopped by customs). If item was sent via courier though a represantative of the courier company will give you a call smile.gif

Aiseh mate results for both your questions work out to = Try a little search first mate, make an effort to look for answers first. There is such a thing called
http://www.pos.com.my wink.gif

You see there is an HQ for each state and even a Poslaju center for each major collection location, and its all in the site, together with tariffs for international and domestic shipping by weight and zones.

Lets try that one and see if that works out for you.
We're not all postmen here you see, not that being a Postman is all that bad wink.gif

There is pos ekspres rates in Pos Malaysia website. But I don't blame you for not finding them since their website can be pretty darn confusing most of the times biggrin.gif

I think you might find these of some help ---> http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=21306460

There's also e-parcel method which you could refer to havocx's post above --> http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=21673483

Plz take your time to read and do a little research and you could use the search button to find related topics which have already been answered and discussed in details by other forumers. Sometimes it can get repetitive with the same questions and the answers are all available already. Cheers icon_rolleyes.gif

if you use pos express and it some how lost, you can't claim the cost of the shirt back. THEY WILL ONLY GIVE YOU NEW POSEXPRESS ENVELOPE and that's it.

I personally recommend poslaju. First, safer because it require receiver's IC and signature.(posexpress does not reaquire signature & IC)
Second, it has small insurance where:
Maximum RM100 for item weighed below 2kg(let's say your item is 1kg, and it worth RM150, maximum claim is RM100. If the item worth RM50, they give you RM50 back)
Maximum RM300 for item weighed above 2kg
