Pos Malaysia suprised me with the same volumetric weight charges not too long ago too but I guess it makes sense nowadays.
Poslaju has always been the cheapest courier and I guess in order for them to earn they now also go with volumetric weight. That being said, sending a CD Rom in a shoe box for instance, no matter how light that item is, heck, you can even send just the shoe box which i think will weigh only 200grams youll be slapped with a 1 KG charge because of volumetric weight calculations.
It works also that way I think because as a courier service, space in their vehicles to carry stuff anywhere is important. Thus if 5 people were to send 1 CD but packed in a shoe box, that space could have been occupied by larger heavier items which will actually bring more revenue for the courier folks.
So yes space is an issue.
That being said, big courier companies have known this all along, thats the reason why they cost higher than normal Poslaju. That also being said, Poslaju now then makes it a fair deal for bigtime heavy shippers to use their service more, they now want to compete with the big boys.
Yes, much can be said about their services ( although i for one found them to be VERY reliable ) but in hard times such as now, you cant earn big bucks with RM5 shipping. Neither is it fair to pay ( my personal opinion ) RM 5 for a very long wrapped up poster when Poslaju will also need to ensure those are stored in their trucks without being bent. Not to mention the poor Postmen on Motorcycles driving up to your house with a pole like thing stuck under their armpit laugh.gif
But no fear, I learnt something well from another safetrader here on one of our Safe Trades transactions. E-Parcel.
Now for most times we use Poslaju simply because we wanna track the bloody thing.
The thing is Poslaju sucks bigtime in that they only have the item on the online site either one working day after you sent the item or when the item finally reaches doh.gif To some of course time is of the essence. But if you dont really mind BUT still wanna track your items and WANT to pay less = E-Parcel.
The tracking for E-Parcel starts with a CD instead of an EN for Poslaju but they are cheaper, also reliable and can be tracked.
That could actually be the solution for Expensive mess of shipping.
And oh, they dont GO by volumetric weight too.
Cons ? They are slow, where Poslaju delivers in 1 or 2 days they do it within 3-5 days if its within the same region. For Sabah and Sarawak if youre shipping from East Malaysia itll take about 2 weeks.
You decide

If I buy something from ebay, the item is shipped to my house directly or I need to collect it at kastam?
Maknok's correct. It depends also on the item you are purchasing. Most of the time as long as the item cost inclusive of shipping is less than RM500 itll get through Customs without issues.
That also depends of course what the seller puts on the package. Some sellers may put item to be say USD150 worth and shipping USD50 for instance although the item
only costs USD70. This is of course for the sellers protection on shipping claims insurance in case it gets lost but Customs Malaysia may just treat it differently.
Ive also shipped Books in before, they weigh a ton something like 20kg's but since they costs only RM450 in total inclusive of shipping, they came right through to the doorstep without any issues
