I'm also from UNSW, second year for me by the way. I don't mind going through O-week again to meet new people, not to mention its freebies. Add me in for the meet up  nod.gif

I'm on one of the best cap plan, and ill tell you honestly, you'd pay good money to download things here.

Streamyx's really need to buck up

10gb download is kinda expensive isnt it? I'm going for dial up unlimited mayb xD no bandwidth but it'll kill me to finish a dl, i'll jus leave it there while i study or chat. XD
*
Not really expensive... get tpg for good and reliable deals, big companies like Telstra's Bigpond suck your wallet dry.

I'm using ADSL2 20GB for 50AUD per month, but there's 3 of us sharing so no worries here. As long as you don't download too many series or anime it's more than enough. I've never exceeded my quota even once, not even coming close. There's always at least 2, 3 GB left for me every month.

Dialup is going to kill you, seriously. Webpages nowadays are full of content that take ages to load... you'll cry with dialup. I'm speaking from experience as I did use dialup for the first month when I went over.

Don't skimp over broadband... it's a necessity unless you're living in your uni's library 24/7 tongue.gif
Just share the costs with your housemates and you won't have to pay too much. If anything, don't go to cinemas or pubs and you'll save the cash for your broadband.

Yeah even my buddy in Melbourne recommend TPG, problem with TPG is that static IP for certain package so yeah that just the downturn.

Medical simple only, go there make sure you drink lotsa water, coz they need your urine sample. Basically they measured your weight, height, eye, and blood pressure. The X-Ray was awkward though for me, was forced to strip half-naked in front of the X-ray panel with a woman handling the X-ray thing. *malu-lah* ..... need to lose my tummy ASAP. Then after all that you see the doc, he/she will do some test on you, e.g knee jerk, check your breathing, throat, internal organs(liver, lung and etc), then finished.
Maximum 2 hours then you're done with the medical, after that wait 3 working days for your student visa to be approved.

no dude, no necessary, but your fees are cheaper overall if you bundle with internet, not like here TMnet must have phone line to have internet, there up to you, go check here very very resourceful guide has almost everything you need according to your taste. http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-plan.cfm. i guess nth is unlimited there, max is 30 GB when they enforced the Fair Policy Use.

i think almost every student will be screened for their criminal records, if you are involved in the health care sector (doct, nurse and etc) i think your medical check up would be more extensive, when i call the medical centre for my check up, they asked me if i'm doing medicine, so i think probably they have 2 type of medical check up depending on what you study there.

I'm doing medicine and the doctor said that they changed the policy and medical students do not need the blood test anymore.(since it will be done by your uni)
BTW, when you guys certify the documents(for under-18 students), do you need it to be in hand written in English saying 'I hereby certify that....."?

huh? if it's official doc. then i guess you can do it via computer and print it out, most important IMO is the witness, and also the signatures of the party involved. Depends on what kind of documents you talking abt. Anyway i don't know since i'm past 18. biggrin.gif

Broadband quality is pretty good here compared to our craptastic Streamyx.
I'm paying $50 per month for TPG's 20GB, but since I share it with my flatmate, I pay half that.

Documents need to be translated into English by a lawyer if Im not mistaken. U should ask an agent to do it, it would be much much muchhh easier.

O-week is more to societies/associations fishing for new members to join plus and also the round-the-campus tour. Nothing much interesting. For the meet up, we should talk about it later since there might be others just wanna hop in.
