Yea. I am thinking of the same too. BTW, what course r u doing and which uni??
*
Got Chemical Engineering, got in touch with them again and asked for Petroleum Engineering, so confirm doing Petroleum Engineering at Adelaide University.

QUOTE(pyroboy1911 @ Jan 13 2008, 08:35 PM)
yea, that place looks good. How far is it from UniSA?

but internet is given 1.5GB limit bo....can tahan for ppl like us onot?  tongue.gif
*
1.5 GB i die la, sure can't download with 1.5 Gb probably enough for ' research surfing' sadly .....
What sicken me is that in certain hostel they have an agreement with 'certain' ISP, that could ripped your heart out. Anyway the most shocking check this out http://www.unitrans.com.au/i_fees.html, $250 for 3 GB and not even broadband speed! of course it was back in 2006 but still ........
Anyway i will do with 20 GB max. Oh man hope i can make it alive in 6 months there find few friends to moved in then subscribe to a leeching plan, especially TPG plan http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/isp.cfm/TPG-Int...-5.html?p=14195 , just hoping the connection is fine and done break, if break then waste my GB for sure. Anyway can't wait to go Adelaide, i heard alot of good stuff there when the representatives from the uni came here to give a pre-departure briefing last wednesday. But no. 1 priority now is find accomodation, worst come to worst i find my place when i arrived. pyroboy1911 why go so late end Feb, when your orientation ?

Yup. 1.5Gb is not sufficient for me too. I think i gonna go for something like 4 GB at least. BTW, when is your orientation and when will you be going?? Taking Malaysia Airlines?? Possible to meet up??
*
NP bro. Yeah funny recommended arrival for International student to Adelaide for the orientation was 11 Feb, but the orientation is split to many groups e.g Engineering, Arts, Medicine blah blah. SO happen my Orientation is on the 19th for the engineering group. And my course starts on the 3rd of March. Anyway Orientation is not something to miss ppl coz they will tell you alot there, e.g where to shop and how to open bank account and etc. Anyway those who go with MAS could asked for an extra 5 kg (just call them up and ask la MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM YOU'RE A STUDENT, if you get then good if not at least you asked). Yeah i'm goin with MAS, hope no delays arriving there in the 10th in the morning with my mom. ANd yeah we can meet up for sure.

What you all gonna miss from Malaysia?

i say 4 things.

1. My family&friends.
2. Internet , hate the cap& cost in aussie. now i appreciate TMNet.
3. FOOTBALL + ASTRO!
4. Our cheap subsidize life here in Malaysia.

Just curious, what was the briefing about? smile.gif
*
well alot of things. Obviously it was more abt Adelaide University especially what should you do and all when you get there. But the no.1 emphasis was that GET YOUR ACCOMMODATION ASAP! All International students from the uni will get a guaranteed 1 week accomodation ($60 pernight i think which is expensive). The reps. said some ppl(no accomodation yet) came there and wasted the first 3 days out of 7 days enjoying them self and finding out later how tough it was to rent or finding a nice place there , and he told us that find you home ASAP b4 you go out and enjoy. Another thing is that if you wanna rent a home, it must be done in person aka can't do it over the net but you can research the place, he gaves us a few good website, http://www.realestate.com.au/ , http://www.domain.com.au/ , http://www.realestateview.com.au/ and http://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/index.html for public transport. And also Immigration rules, the quarantine crap, no herbs to bring in especially if it's in powder form( they think it's drugs ), and DECLARE ALL YOUR STUFF ESPECIALLY FOOD PRODUCTS, DON'T bring dairy products (milk, cheese, butter, etc). If you have to bring something then SEALED IT AND DECLARE IT. And please note that Australia has among the strictest quarantine laws in the world, ones the dog sniff something funny from your bag they WILL OPEN all your BAGS, and like the reps told me THEY WILL FIND IT. So yeah word of advice SEALED and DECLARE simple.
And don't bring Maggi Mee, they said alot of Asian shop selling it there( other brand then maggi of course but hey it's still instant noddle). What else hmm ....... yeah buy all your electronic stuff from here, then i heard something abt the 'laptop' rules where you pay tax on it if it's less than 1 year old and also prove of purchase blah blah but they said there the rules have been scraped, not too sure abt that though. And buy australian adapters or international (3 flat pins or 2 flat pins depends on where you live in aussie), then buy extension, you save money coz 1 adapter+1 extension= a lot of plugs for your malaysian hardwares= save money and spaces. And also some crabbing(social activities) season there. But yeah it was really interesting, the conference room was kinda full, they expected 70 students there and i saw a few Indonesian there and most of the students there were with their parents ...... And buy all your winter stuff there and your T-Shirts, pants and etc here coz cheaper. And they suggested duck quilt for your blanket( not the cheap blankets ok) during winter coz it could get COLD there and also windy.

AND YEAH another thing get comfy with your PROF. They will help you out in tough time and always respect them and address them accordingly.

Yeah even my buddy in Melbourne recommend TPG, problem with TPG is that static IP for certain package so yeah that just the downturn.

Medical simple only, go there make sure you drink lotsa water, coz they need your urine sample. Basically they measured your weight, height, eye, and blood pressure. The X-Ray was awkward though for me, was forced to strip half-naked in front of the X-ray panel with a woman handling the X-ray thing. *malu-lah* ..... need to lose my tummy ASAP. Then after all that you see the doc, he/she will do some test on you, e.g knee jerk, check your breathing, throat, internal organs(liver, lung and etc), then finished.
Maximum 2 hours then you're done with the medical, after that wait 3 working days for your student visa to be approved.

Hey guys, I am to apply the Broadband, izzit a must for me to have a telephone land line??
*
no dude, no necessary, but your fees are cheaper overall if you bundle with internet, not like here TMnet must have phone line to have internet, there up to you, go check here very very resourceful guide has almost everything you need according to your taste. http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-plan.cfm. i guess nth is unlimited there, max is 30 GB when they enforced the Fair Policy Use.

QUOTE(pangping1510 @ Jan 14 2008, 01:26 PM)
criminal record is for medical students i think..

abt check ups, some girls might get breast examinations..

i have stopped converting every price i see in sydney..or else i wont be enjoying my life there >.<

enjoy ba..
*
i think almost every student will be screened for their criminal records, if you are involved in the health care sector (doct, nurse and etc) i think your medical check up would be more extensive, when i call the medical centre for my check up, they asked me if i'm doing medicine, so i think probably they have 2 type of medical check up depending on what you study there.

I'm doing medicine and the doctor said that they changed the policy and medical students do not need the blood test anymore.(since it will be done by your uni)
BTW, when you guys certify the documents(for under-18 students), do you need it to be in hand written in English saying 'I hereby certify that....."?
*
huh? if it's official doc. then i guess you can do it via computer and print it out, most important IMO is the witness, and also the signatures of the party involved. Depends on what kind of documents you talking abt. Anyway i don't know since i'm past 18. biggrin.gif

Rj45 is the jack. It is the normal cable we use in the house. You can go to any computer shop and ask them to make 1 RJ45 Straight Cable for you. I think 2 M should be sufficient.
*
Serious ? some how i doubt that, last time i checked in the internet forum, even 'unlimited' has its limit. If it's true then lucky you especially broadband speed ...... which is impressive.

*
yeah i hope so, well that's what 'big goverment do', if UMNO camp there i don't know what's gonna happen, i hope when our oil & gas are dried up and no more land to plant palm oil, lets hope they don't ditch us near the road side. Anyway what can we do since the state government is part of the federal government.

QUOTE(Blackdawn @ Jan 18 2008, 10:25 AM)
thx for all the advises guys and girls
however sad case happened
since last year when i apply..they kept telling me that i don't have to submit anything for my english requirement because with my SAM's result they can exempt it for me
but yesterday they called me and request an IELTS test results from me
and i need to pass up before 1st of feb, how am i going to take test when the earliest test is 26th of jan
so i'm going on july intake
i'm so dissapointed in Aus Ed and UQ's service
never believe in their promises..if they do make promises..remember to get a damn black and white proof
sigh..
*
i feel for you dude, IELTS exam dates are hard to come back especially availability,if you live around Klang valley you can check british council KL, IDP KL & IDP Subang for exam places, prices are all the same only the location.

QUOTE(haya @ Jan 18 2008, 11:32 AM)
Some people want MCA to come in, as they perceive SUPP to be toothless. A BAD IDEA. Malaysia has way too many backdoor entry's already. Malaysians may be forgetful, but we Sarawakians will not forget how UMNO Sabah destroyed Sabah.

I laugh when the history books say the formation of Malaysia gave we Sarawakians "independence". We have been colonised all our life, from the Brunei sultanate to the Brooke era to the British, and now Malaya. I'd say if we want to be colonised all our life, we might as well do it right. Heck, I'm all for the decedents to Brooke to come back.

Sarawak only shares a common colonial master (briefly) with Malaya. We have nothing in common with the "west".
*
trust me things will get worst if UMNO comes there, i seriously pity our Sabah neighbor especially the Bumis, and also the in-flood of illegal immigrant who leech their welfare system. I'm sicked of this 2-rates price thing where one applies to West Malaysia and East Malaysia. None the less, what happen back then did happen, all we can do is pray before our oil dries out that at least we have some $$$ to fall into, i don't see the Bakun dam (which is already under GLC control) to sustain us in the long term. MCA=SUPP, ppl there generally the chinese still votes for a race-based party just like the ibans and malays, which was evident when price skyrocketed and also the 'land' issue there during the last general election where DAP inflate SUPP. And Mahmud is there for way way too long, it seems he wanna create a dynasty there with his family ...............
anyway Berjaya Berdaulat! And i notice most sarawakian go to Aussie to study especially in Perth and Melbourne, intresting.

QUOTE(haya @ Jan 18 2008, 01:34 PM)
Frankly, Taib is the lesser of the 2 evils. I'd rather have him than UMNO. Sure, he makes tall teleco towers everywhere with his Sacofa, not to mention the looming State Assembly Building looming across the river  in a way that would  make Ken Ichijouji proud, but at least he does a good job. Who else will bring broadband to Mukah?

The number of Sarawakians (Kuchingites especially) in Perth is a legacy from the KCH-PER flight. I've noticed that many Mirians like to go to Melbourne. Some say it is a legacy from the Emergency,  where we had Australian troops (usually from Melbourne) stationed here (miri especially). Does Rumah Melaban ring a bell?

*
oh i see, well i have been away form sarawak almost 8 years now, but home is where the heart is, so i missed my hometown(Bintulu), heard that is maju like crap alredi. Anyway i've been to Kuching ones in my life, and that was because it was transit to go to singapore and then to KL. Man i hope i don't regret goin to Adelaide since Perth=Miri i heard, and they aso have the same course that i'm taking in Adelaide University.
One of my friend who is is now in Melbourne University told me alot of Sarawak ppl there esp. Miri ppl so i guess after SPM most of the Miri students go there for Trinity College then enrolled in University of Melbourne. Rumah Melaban= Fighting House ???, no i don't sadly ....

QUOTE(onelove89 @ Jan 18 2008, 01:43 PM)
I was thinking of that too ^^ try to polish a bit of your english b4 u go there. A few months after SPM i find that my english is deteriorating. >.< brain getting rusty. lol~

btw, I wanna go to the future too xD
*
My brain rusty alredi after 5 month finished A Level, anyway i'm starting to study back to prepared for University.

QUOTE(KVReninem @ Jan 18 2008, 02:58 PM)
we got more in adelaide too ~ smile.gif
*
Yeah man good to know anyway Taib studied in university of Adelaide before this, and i heard he's related to an imam in the mosque there(Adelaide)).

QUOTE(almattitude_v1 @ Jan 18 2008, 04:30 PM)
I posted a few pages back that I applied for Monash and RMIT thru IDP, and they had yet to reply me... Well, last week I e-mailed them, and no reply... A few days later, I went to see them personally, then she told me Monash replied and said I didnt meet their requirements, and RMIT is holding a place for me but they want my portfolio... I dont have a portfolio...

But the thing is, RMIT replied on the 26th November, and IDP couldnt even be bothered to e-mail me and inform me that they want a portfolio... Atleast I could have done something from the 26th November... Last week i went to see them only she told me that RMIT said that... WTF! They just spoil my chance of getting into RMIT! So now i got no choice, I apply for Monash College, coz i dont need a portfolio then... And yes, I DID NOT apply thru IDP, I applied myself... I already got a reply from Monash saying they recieved my application and they will process it and get back to me...

For what IDP exists then? We can do it ourselves! They just make ur chances WORST... They are basically useless...
*
which IDP you went KL or Subang or Penang? IDP KL is gila busy, they have 2 counselor there and trust me they seriously need more staffs to handle prospective students. Portfolio means what ? qualifications documents or i assume you're taking architecture hence they wanna see what you have done before. I did through IDP for my university application, they all very professional there, after 3 weeks, they SMS me that i got my offer and boom all was done, but after that i handle everything myself. Anyway emailing them is a bad idea, is better to call them or see them in person.

you were born in bintulu? woot
my hometown also whistling.gif
about back to the future; i been seeing it for like 4 weeks ago..it`s tuned on aus tv too; channel 9 or 10
lolz doh.gif
*
serious, lolz, my friend came back last Dec and he went Sarawak to visit his Sarawakian friend for a week, general review was that not that maju compare to KL lolz but food very good there. Anyway he's back there in Melbourne now. Yeah man was born and grow up there till i was 12, my primary skool was like 2 km away from the beach. Anyway from the top of my primary skool you can see the oil&gas industry near the coastline and also big oil tanker. Anyway was a good life there.

QUOTE(tam_ironcup @ Jan 18 2008, 09:38 PM)
did any of u do a levels before going to australia? if u did, what was ur AS result and did u apply with ur as results only or A2 results as well? and what did u get for A2 if u applied using A2 results?
*
AS results= was like crap, A2= even better than AS, i applied using the result slips (AS+A2) then i got unconditional offer , after that i send my a-level certificate when i make the payment just to confirm my result to them. Anyway apply early, don't wait for the deadline, coz near deadline always busy for the staff to process the application, anyway the earlier you submit the faster you booked your place for your 1st course.

QUOTE(pyroboy1911 @ Jan 18 2008, 09:53 PM)
Bintulu ppl eh? not reli maju la, shopping mall also like  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

yea, i agree with zltan. malaysian attitude cannot survive in Australia. In fact, cant survive in most of other part of the world. Assignment is no longer copy-paste, and late means late. have to discipline myself from now on.  sweat.gif
*
Oh serious ? lolz, anyway i love the beach there, playing kite there is always nice. Aiyah come on la, i don't really care abt shopping mall actually. But obviously Miri is a bigger town than Bintulu, i went to Miri (also ones lolz), and i ate my first McD there aso, so happy with the Happy Meal got the toy inside. now in KL, normal only, in fact i don't go there often, not good for my diet.

almattitude_v1, don't expect IDP to tell you wat you have to do to submit your application, when i went there they check my results(see if i can at least do the course, i check the requirement on9 and obviously it was more than sufficient), then my IELTS results and after that finished then i wait for the university response. anyway like the ppl here said check the qualification that you need to enter to the course you apply for. Anyway IDP should have contacted you ASAP. Anyway like i said the KL office is seriously under-staff. That's why i apply early coz most malaysian like to apply last last minute.

Hey guys i'm just wondering, for those who took engineering, i knew that in the math exam you're not allowed to use the calculator(correct me if i'm wrong) but for other subjects that requires calculation you can use a calculator, i would like to know do i have to buy a new scientific calculator or the one that i have now which is a Casio scientific calculator model fx-570MS (i bought this in 2004) is good enough for me to go through the exam.
