uh? you don't use w8.1 key to activate w10. it will not work. all it matters is that you are doing the upgrade with an activated old os, connected to the internet during the process. after the upgrade, connect to the internet and make sure w10 is activated.

then, you can proceed with a fresh install. after the new installation, connect the computer to internet, and w10 will be activated.
*
well tried a few methods.

firstly was the reserve.

but noticed it wasn't downloading anything

so based on guides used the tool to force jump queue. it made the folders mentioned, but that too didn't seem like it was downloading much after that.

*during the steps i notice windows update had some errors .... these seemed a bit too complicated for me to diagnose and fix by myself.

then used the same tool to download the iso. burned to rufus, wouldn't load on my laptop, both ntfs and fat32.

then tried running the setup.exe while still in win 8.1 it worked, but then asked me for product key. which i found from my laptop by using a vbs script that retrieves the laptop product key (because if your laptop sticker doesn't have key, that is then the only way to retrieve it).

but then says the key is invalid.

so.... i have to use.... alternative iso to install. same issue about flash usb drive not loading (though it worked for my other pc just fine). So i then ran it while in 8.1 and it worked. it didn't ask me for any product key.

win10 installed, but i was concerned that it was not really a clean install. so i then go to settings system restore, then select reset > factory settings.

Now waiting for that to finish smile.gif

Most software that can run on Win8.1 should be able to run on Win10. Haven't encountered any software's incompatibility yet.

Alrite, thank you. Downloading mine now. BTW i'm using it on my macbook (Parallels Desktop)

Is current software will be compatible with Win10?
I'm using Primavera software.

for work computers, don't simply upgrade unless you have confirmation from your providers that their products will work fine.

w10 is new, it will take some time for software developers to cope with it. (although they should have done their parts at much earlier stages to ensure better compatibility)

you can do upgrade with w10 iso. there is a reason why some are still stuck without any prompt from the system to do upgrade, even gwx icon is present. one of the problems is that gwx scanned the system and found out hardware/software incompatibilities.

my solution to this is easy: take out incompatible hardware, install a plain old os to get rid of incompatible software (or you can just reset it with built-in reset thing), make sure os is activated, connect to internet then proceed to upgrade.

Well just noticed that primavera software is super expensive, dealing the same function with microsoft project too (also super expensive). To check for compatibility, here you go: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/com...?Language=en-AU

Compatibility of primavera: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/com...astRequested=14

Thank you mate! Sadly, mine is not compatible according to the list. Mine is P6 (action recommended).
Will ask my provider about this. Thanks again!

the upgrade is supposed to run in normal windows environment. (boot to windows normally, run setup.exe in the usb stick) this is necessary because you need the computer to connect to internet, so that the system can communicate with ms activation server to check the activation status of your old os, and submit the hardware profile.

just skip all dialogs that ask you for key. it's not necessary for the whole upgrade process. after successful w10 online activation, you can just do a diskpart > clean to wipe the whole os drive and proceed with a fresh install.

about bootable usb stick, actually i don't use any tool to create bootable usb stick. for uefi bios, all you need to do is to format the stick with fat32, then extract the contents of w10 iso directly into it. for legacy bios, just format it with ntfs. for my systems, i don't even mark the stick as active. i just spam boot menu key (in my case, f12) on boot and select the usb stick to proceed.

after win 10 installed i did the reset factory.

apparently for my acer nitro laptop it reinstalls back as win 8.1 ..... so apparently it does that. lrn new things laugh.gif

so this time around on a fresh 8.1 i immediately get the message i can upgrade to win10. so i click that and now it's downloading win10..

32% so gonna wait and see if when i reach 100% will it install or not hmm.gif

otherwise i got to resort to alternative.... methods rolleyes.gif

Guys, is your boot animation the same as below video?

I only have the spinning thing but don't have the Windows logo, instead of the logo it is showing my mobo's brand logo which is Gigabyte with the spinning thing below it.

It has been discussed for quite a while now, so I'm gonna quote this again:
QUOTE(horns @ Jul 29 2015, 05:09 PM)
it's better to change all hardware, activate windows, then perform upgrade.
don't bother waiting. just download the iso from the above official links and do offline upgrade.
since now we can download iso, you can do:
1) have an activated windows 8.1 / 7 PC (connected to internet)
2) download iso and make bootable usb stick then use that to do offline upgrade (after finished, connect to internet and make sure new w10 is activated!)
3) after upgrade, do CLEAN INSTALL using the same bootable usb, which means WIPE/FORMAT the HDD
4) Skip the product key
5) Finish install and check the product activation (connected to internet)

I did offline update on 3 PC as of now. First one is online using Media Creation Tool, downloaded everything into a hidden folder. then copied the Windows.WS folder to the other PC, browse dalam, setup.exe. Working now as this is the 3rd PC.

This is one good tip and confirmation. thanks a lot smile.gif Actually if you looked closely, the directory structure is like what's in w10 iso. i think you can create bootable usb out of it also. (Maybe excluding all system-specific folders)

Your mobo supports uefi, so instead of win logo it shows manufacturer's. Your w10 is uefi install. (Same here my xps is showing dell instead of win logo)

Thanks to horns & Cynox for your guidelines, i have successfully upgraded to Windows 10 pro yesterday night thumbup.gif

Nvidia GTX980Ti & Corsair Link give me lot of problems to upgrade by using GWX method, upgrade from Windows 10 ISO has no issue at all. rclxms.gif
