Noob question. Do you guys recommend a netbook with an Atom Processor and 1GB RAM to upgrade to Win 10? Originally with Win 7. Win 10 should be less resource hogging right? It's eligible for upgrade with files already downloading.. Tried upgrading the RAM but seems it is not compatible with other than the 1GB stick.

Anybody successfully upgraded with the GWX/reservation method? I am still waiting for the prompt. Too lazy to download ISO since I know the files are already there. Maybe I should just sleep first.....

That 80240020 error is driving me nuts. So did the delete, and command prompt, and downloading now. Ill go to sleep. With my connection it will be a while before it finishes. Sigh..

GWX failed. Force update using WUpdate also failed. Media creation tool failed. A post in Reddit told me to change my language locale to English US. Now the tool is downloading again. If this one also failed later I dont think I have the patience to try any more.

After playing with W10 for a while, I can conclude that, at least on my machine, it is snappier than W8.1. Quite happy now after all my problems trying to upgrade. So far I have yet to encounter any bugs. Although I did encounter a malware emergency just now trying to install some ahem apps. Luckily Malwarebytes and Kaspersky work great in W10.

QUOTE(cjxs @ Jul 31 2015, 10:28 AM) Hi all, Your experience is exactly the same as mine. After changing the language locale it should work. My Asus was like that. But my low end netbook failed to update. My guess is the specs is too low although GWX said that it is sufficient enough to run Win10. I guess Ill just leave it at Win7.My experience on Upgrading to Win 10. 1. Using the normal Windows Update but no luck...indicate Failed error code 80240020. 2. Tried delete the Sofware distribution folder files and command prompt to start download. Windows 10 downloading but failed again. 3. Use the Media Creation Tool and try create a USB bootable installer but can not detect my flash drive. 4. Change to Upgrade this PC and Something Happened pop out. haizzzz. Now after reading this forum.. I will try to change the Language and see how it goes. If it is still not working then I bring my laptop to Thunder Match and see how much they charge for the upgrading service. |

QUOTE(Matrix @ Jul 31 2015, 11:16 AM) Same here. Not AV. 80240020 error is installation files corrupted or missing. And it couldn't be MS servers overloaded coz by time time I got that error I have all the files inside my C drive alreadyDid you turn on your Anti-virus? I think can try that. Gonna try turn off my anti-virus and upgrade again tonight. This post has been edited by spikey2506: Jul 31 2015, 11:19 AM |

QUOTE(cjxs @ Jul 31 2015, 11:41 AM) Really unfortunate a few of forumers experince the same. Good luck bro. I'd say the upgrade is worth the hassle. I am loving Win 10 so farWill try again tonight. Will change language (location plus administrator), turn off anti virus if any (not sure I have it), turn off fire wall. Will be using Media Creation Tool Upgrade this PC. For info mine is Win 7 Home 64 bit. Thanks for sharing and good luck in upgrading. |

Upgraded to Win 10 from 8.1 and activated successfully. Used it for about a week and last night decided to clean install since I had some smoothness problems. But after booting back into windows it said not activated. Although MS said this should not happen if you successfully upgraded and activated from 8.1. Any solutions guys? Forums are saying to wait for a while. Maybe the activations servers are overloaded.

QUOTE(raynman @ Aug 10 2015, 08:54 AM) After performing a clean install of Windows 10, I get activated immediately once my PC is online. Should have check this forum before clean installing last night. But then, I entered the Windows 10 product key during the clean install, which I extracted earlier after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. |

QUOTE(raynman @ Aug 10 2015, 10:39 AM) You have skipped entering the Windows 10 product key during the clean install. Thanks. Hopefully thats the case. Ive read online that some people waited for days but still not activatedIt is quite normal because not everyone knows how to extract the Windows 10 product key AFTER the upgrade. Since yours is a legitimate clean install, you should wait for the activation. Eventually you will be activated since Microsoft already knew your hardware ID during the upgrade process. Don't worry. |
