There are many ways to listen to music and ICE is just one of them.....
There is the portable type - Headfi and there is the Mobile type - ICE....
If you got the space.. then you will go Home HiFi and if you do not.. then there is always the Home HeadFi Setup...

ICE is just one way... to listen to music... and we are only in our car for certain hours of the day.

For those of us that from Klang Valley... old enough to remember the Weekend ICE blasting along the beach at Klang think years ago where you see pimp up cars and those girls we can only see from afar as our own ride not in the league of the cars that they came in.........

i think we should have a TT....its been years since i have touched ICE and i thought of going back to playing ICE but with something different in mind.

I have been thinking of using Media Player --> USB/Optical DAC --> Mosconi DSP. Do you guys think that this is possible? havent really found any installer that is able to do this for me as most of them would recommend me to just use a car player and they claim that it would sound better than the system that i have in mind...

and personally, in today's fast growing technology and what not, imho car audio is really behind.

car audio DAC is not very common, I listen to WAV files, but many shops dont know what is it? else they will assume it is an MP3.

But wav and flac are widely used in Home hifi, which usually, uses a jitter control usb > SPDIF> Clock control > DAC > preamp and then power amp.

If you study DCS systems http://www.dcsltd.co.uk/vivaldi/

things like vivaldi systems, just for source you need so many components.

But i still do agree a Head unit still plays CD better than other files.

well ...i have 500gb worth of Wav and Flac for my home HIFI so i thought of using DAC to play my FLAC and WAV. i am now contemplating between these 2 solution

1. laptop-->USB-->i2S convertor-->AudioGD DAC-->Mosconi DSP

2. Portable MP3 player-->Optical-->AudioGD DAC-->Mosconi DSP

as for my speaker, planning to us back my Alpine F1 but change the Mid Bass to ScanSpeak model...find that the F1 Mid Bass is slightly slower

But then again, if any of you dont mind coming to Setia Alam, would be nice, then i can join. Thats just a suggestion.

I was also quite active in ICE and died down as well.

My setup is somewhere pretty decent and I don't plan to upgrade since 2010. Here's a few reasons why. Hope I don't offend anyone.

1. New cars - Default HU comes with navigation, and panels are customized. You have again, to pay crap load to installers for some plastic to fit your Macintosh MX406.

2. Theft - I was afraid of finding my windows on the road and my HU/Amps gone. Although now, I think people are more into laptops..or even your whole car. These days, there is no demand for them anymore - i strongly believe it is due to no.1.

3. Installers - Not many of us do DIY. It's just not our culture unlike the western world. They spend months building everything/anything on their own. We pay people to do it, and that is when we are at the disadvantage. You get chopped if you don't know your stuff. You get chopped even if you know your stuff. I'm sure there are many experiences people can share.

ps. diymobileaudio.com is still very much alive.

4. Community - there was a great community in mycarhifi and another forum. It died, and I don't know why. It could be the above.

5. It then boils down to demand and supply. As the demand becomes smaller, my upgrade plans become slimmer. I can't sell my current setup to upgrade - which is a good thing as I save money tongue.gif. So I stuck to it. It will be just a matter of time that I sell my car together with the setup and go with the new car's default HU.

My guess is like this
new generation/new player for ice:
- must have d latest iproduct or iPad
- must have latest phone
- must have an artisan coffee frequently/cool hangout place(rm10 per coffee
- must try all d latest foodie n cakes n post up at FB
- preferably vios city standard or vw golf gti n etc
- into camera trend (canon nikon lar) + selfie

one generation before, whois current icer or retired
- migrated to HT or home hifi
- purchase a new better house, financially tied down

New generation lifestyle is very different compare to previous. Hence its understandable why there isnt much new players at car hifi..not much reserve

but on the other hand, there is still a number of active car hifi lovers out there..

Siapa tu?

Those were the days... when I started as a basshead... biggrin.gif

Came out of retirement recently... to finish my unfulfilled dreams of having a proper front 3 way setup...

On the way... A-pillar is on the careful hands of Famous Audio, JB.

let me know when ur free..dun think anybody here knows him.
the system has very good natural harmonics.
over d years hardware remains unchanged but internal upgrades n external power supply and cabling including high purity power n grounding makes big diff.
