Called to MBB asking about FD promo.

For previous 3 mth 3.87% promo, this is over. Only left 3 mth 3.7% promo.

12 mth 4% upfront interest FD still available but better hurry before it close shop. Min 25k.

Another FD promo is 6+9 mths with 3.85%+4% interest. Did not ask more details as not interested in this one.

Going for the 12 mth 4% upfront interest one as it can give effective rate of 4.16% if you make use of the upfront interest into another FD of about 4%.
*
The 6+9 does not look attractive considering we have PBB and UOB offeiring 4.05%

I just updated the FDMCGC list and initiated new members. I had to read the last 66 pages (only 88% of the posts are worth reading) in order to identify those who have contributed valuable information related to FD in this thread. And boy did I come across many consecutive posts by the same person (please cut and paste like what I'm doing now for this post) - Admiral BoomChaCha excluded as his posts is to update others on latest FD news in real time. And I keep reading general comments about this and that from a guy who posts several times in a day! So please be considerate by not posting unnecessarily for the sake of post counts as it makes this thread very long and waste others people's time (e.g. wasting time loading pages). And I don't even want to start on those who ask questions not relating to FD.

Having said the above, I shall now waste your time with the below contents which are not relevant to any FD Promo but to show appreciation to those who have contributed to this thread and past threads.

12 Months 4% upfront interest Maybank FDs done today smile.gif

Went to uplift Citi TD/FD which was used to secure a CC - this means it takes a month (25 working days) to uplift , so probably won't be able to get this into the same promotion any more sad.gif

You can perform GIRO over the counter too and same time schedule as per online applies.

For online transfers, only RM10K.

IBG and online same time schedules? I did IBG at the counter before 12 noon and I get the fund within the same day.
Online transfer, I thought diferent bank has different limit??

I missed above the above post earlier.

Over the Counter charges varies but it is about RM2 per transactions. As to your question - "If you don't have Savings Account (or Current Account) can perform GIRO" - I don't know. And yes you can transfer RMXXX,XXX.00 and if not mistaken someone mentioned before more than this via GIRO over the counter. We have in the passed talke about GIRO and RENTAS.

Once again, click here to my article A Little Bit Of This and A Little Bit Of That Vol.1 Chapter IV and scroll down to sub section "InterBank GIRO or IBG Transfer via Over The Counter" to learn more about my experience with GIRO over the counter. See, that is why I published articles relating to credit cards and FD so that I can easily provide in depth info over and over again without me need do explain the same thing over and over again, hahaha.

Ocbc IBG max limit is Rm100k if I am not mistaken.

Anybody aware there is a bank negara ruling when you placed more than 50k, the counter staff want to know where do you get the money?

Even BR can OTC IBG xfer >100k. But not sure of the upper limit. smile.gif

I think it is way more than 50k, then they will ask you. Though Ah Boom encountered problem as he reported before.

Why you ask a question that I have already answered? If you don't believe, go lah check yourself, i.e. google GIRO or Inter Bank Giro and you will get below answer:

According to Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation - if one perform before 12.30pm Inter Bank GIRO (IBG) online or over counter before 12.30pm, funds credited into account same day.

And if you had read sylille's post recently, she performed GIRO at Affin at 12.45pm, money also credited into her CIMB account same day(???).

The maximum amount is RM1 million per transaction subject to individual banks terms and conditions.

As for the RM50K, did any bank ask you? For my case, the last two week I have been using personal cheques for 3 different banks' FD Promo and nobody asked me anything about where my funds are from.

However, whenever I go deposit in Citibank Melbourne with Bank Draft, the teller always ask me the source of fund. Not only that, their Sydney office may follow up after few months later and ask the same thing, i.e. source of fund. Once the Sydney office personal called me on my Australia phone number while I was in Malaysia and I did not answer the phone (I was sleeping as there is a time difference) and their freeze my account (I couldn't perform any transactions online)!!! Later I checked my email account and notice an email from someone who was from Citibank (the guy who tried to contact me by phone), I had to email him to get him to call me back. Only after I told him source of my funds only he unfreeze my Citibank Account. And same thing happened to my wife doh.gif But the funny thing is I performed a TT (very substantial amount) and nobody from Citibank called me to ask source of funds.

Hey Guys,
The following banks are giving FD interest for > 4% pa with PIDM (so BR not in list)

1. Alliance Bank 12 mths @4 %pa , Credit interest every month to your CASA
2. UOB 12 months @4.05 % pa, Interest paid at maturity
3. Maybank "Attack 3" promotion 12 months at 4% pa. Interest (islamic) upfront.
I assume Maybank "Attack 3" may mean attacking the 3 banks currently undergoing merger but CS would not elaborate.

Encountered once CB called & asked me the question. That was almost 10 days after cheque deposited. So I complained that on the day I deposit, I volunteered to give the info but the officer on duty declined. So why ask me now ? They kept quiet after that.

Sorry if there is a miscommunication somewhere. I did mention I IBG before 12 and I get the same fund on same day. But I did on line transfer, I didnt get the fund on the same day, may be I transfered on line during the weekend.

Ocbc Penang branch asked me to Rentas instead of IBG coz the limit is only 100k for IBG. Well with your info. I can probably tell the RM, thanks. I just checked the website, you are correct on the max amount.

Yes, today is the first time I was asked sources of fund. This surprised me that is why I asked. Never have that exerience with other bank.

Banks have the right to ask for the source of money, if:
(1) Deposit cash more than RM 50K
(2) Deposit check more than RM 100K

If cannot answer or explain the source of money, then bank will send the money to Bank Negara.. sweat.gif

i just noticed HSBC broad rate for short tenure is below market, eg 2.9% for 1month.

btw anyone has experience with their autocallable structure products ? i was offered one that pays return of 9.62% p.a so long the underlying index stays within 80-102% of your entry point for the next 2years unsure.gif

There must have been other FD/CASA promos that were really worth it but in my limited experience hunting fd rates, I remember SCB's (2fd:1casa) 3mth fd 4.5% + 2.9%CASA earlier this year (about jun/july??) which i missed cry.gif And heck, that was before the current battle for deposits!

Damn complicated la these casa promos. But if the CASA:fd ratio is low & the CASA int rate is high, then can consider.

Hope this not considered spam. Let me know if it is @GenX smile.gif

hahaha, above does not constitute a spam lah but actually very valuable (and reinforces) especially to those who are taken in by so call "high" interest but at the same time got to deposit X amount into CASA. And Bro, in the last 66 pages I read, I don't think you spammed once notworthy.gif

If you see Post#1 or my Fixed Deposit Page, you will notice I hardly post any FD Promos with CASA requirement because usually there are better FD Promos out there. The only CASA requirement I do promote for FREE is OCBC 4.5% 3 months and I take the trouble to explain to my readers at my blog to pros and cons and highlight that the effective interest rate is dependent on the day one withdraws his/her money from the Smart Savers Savings Account.

Been very busy this whole week, I missed the maturity date for my FD this past Monday! sad.gif

Guess I will just stick with BR for this FD as:
- when I placed the upfront 4% FD at Maybank, I deposited the cheque on Tues 21 Oct
- As Wed was a public holiday, I could only collect my cert on Friday 24 Oct as the cheque was on a 2 day float
- After that Maybank called me to ask where the funds came from & even updated my personal details & job.
