Warrior, it seems the Budget 2015 has no big surprise to affect FD..

Now KFH offers very attractive rates wor...at least we have one more option to consider..
I am still waiting and expecting MBSB to react soon, BR is hopeless...

BCC,
My place tarak KFH branch sad.gif

Finally BR has revised its FD rates...surely will raise some excitement in the FD scene. You sudah pumped up or not? laugh.gif

IBG mean go to counter and request to transfer fund to other bank for FD right? I checked that IBG in online banking like M2U doesnt have option to transfer fund to FD account..
*
IBG is for transfer between saving accounts.. If it works, that would save the hassle to issue cheque/bank draft for FD deposit & wait for cheque clearance. Transfer fund over counter is called RENTAS, if I am not wrong & the charges are diff.

You can perform GIRO over the counter too and same time schedule as per online applies.

For online transfers, only RM10K.

Eh ? 180 degree U turn pulak? You post#1296 said want to factor in this and that, now want to keep it simple pulak ?
For your info, size of deposit has no relation whatsoever to calculation of FD effective yield.

I disagree. Those (like me) placing minimum amount of RM10k, the petrol and time we spent is a significant percentage of the returns, while those placing RM100k or above, those concerns much less.

I agree with you about traveling cost but put it this way Bro, when CALCULATING the BASIC FD effective yield, amount of FD is not needed.
After you get the effective rate, only then you compare your traveling cost against the interest earned to check whether if is worth it.
I don't know how to form an extended formula which include traveling cost and amount of FD. Perhaps you can help to put in the two variables in the formula I suggested earlier and see if we can improve it further.

haha, click here to FD Tread V3 and see post#3.

Haven't been updating the member list for a long time.

Basically the members who contribute valuable information here can be classified into 2 categories:

1. FDMCGC - Fixed Deposit Musical Chair Gamers Club - go see the member list and you will note some familiar names who have been contributing to this thread for years, e.g. gchowyh, aeiou228, MGM, gsc, BoomChaCha, Kaka23, nomen, sylille, bearbear, David83, magika, AVFAN, bbgoat, Human Nature etc.

As for BoomChaCha's hard work - he shall be rewarded/elevated to Deputy President/COO of this thread (Admiral of this Thread), only below Cherroy (Honorary Advisor), MilesAndMore (President) and our newly appointed MOD the darling and ever helpful munkeyflo (newly appointed Advisor).

I must go update the list.

So basically, Fixed Deposit Musical Chair Gamers Club members are FD Promotions Chasers where it is like playing musical chair, Our funds will go round and round (bank to bank) and when the music stops (FD maturing or new funds to deposit), we try to grab a seat (FD Promotion) before someone else (quota finished/promotion habis).

2. FRMONBWFDP - Freaking Rich Members Or Not Bothered With FD Promotions but contributors to FD Thread.

Thanks for the interesting formula to calculate the effective rate. notworthy.gif

The individual need to factor in other factors like FD amt, lost of interest, efforts needed etc to decide for themselves if it is worth it to terminate the FD. smile.gif

Below are the 3 names in FRMONBWFDP back in 2012:

gark - major contributor to FD Thread rclxms.gif
guy3288 - the smartest of all, lock in long term at high interest rate
BboyDora

I only know guy3288 well enough to comment that this is a big investor, active in other financial threads like ASNB fund (which I just join in recently). thumbup.gif

Now I understand the meaning of "Freaking Rich Members Or Not Bothered With FD Promotions but contributors to FD Thread" ! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Say you go and withdraw your 3.95% Fd and put new FD at 4.15% tomorrow, you forego 12days of interest on your original FD to get the new rate 4.15%. Your new Fd starts from 29.10.14.

if your amount deposited is big, the extra 0.2% over 24 months can be significant.
if your amount is small eg. RM10,000.00,  the extra you get switching from 3.95% to 4.15% is only an additional RM27.00 over the whole 24 months period. Worth the trouble to go withdraw and redeposit?

If deposit RM100k, you get extra RM270, if 1 Million you get extra RM2,700.

So yes, the amount deposited does matter.
The bigger the amount deposited, the more you must go get the higher FD rate.

I would also add the tenure of FD also matters.
The longer the tenure, the more you must go for higher rate.

In the above example if both the 2 Fds are only for 6 months duration, forget about it! The the extra 0.2% cannot even cover your 12 days interest that you sacrificed.

So i wont get excited with any promo offering slightly higher rate but only for short tenure 3 - 6 months.

Thanks for all the advice given. But I was hoping to get the 1 month FD interests first before withdrawing and re-deposit it.

From what I recall, HLB Junior FD is allow to perform partial withdrawal which I believe includes full withdrawal without penalty?

Called to MBB asking about FD promo.

For previous 3 mth 3.87% promo, this is over. Only left 3 mth 3.7% promo.

12 mth 4% upfront interest FD still available but better hurry before it close shop. Min 25k.

Another FD promo is 6+9 mths with 3.85%+4% interest. Did not ask more details as not interested in this one.

Going for the 12 mth 4% upfront interest one as it can give effective rate of 4.16% if you make use of the upfront interest into another FD of about 4%.

I missed above the above post earlier.

Over the Counter charges varies but it is about RM2 per transactions. As to your question - "If you don't have Savings Account (or Current Account) can perform GIRO" - I don't know. And yes you can transfer RMXXX,XXX.00 and if not mistaken someone mentioned before more than this via GIRO over the counter. We have in the passed talke about GIRO and RENTAS.

Once again, click here to my article A Little Bit Of This and A Little Bit Of That Vol.1 Chapter IV and scroll down to sub section "InterBank GIRO or IBG Transfer via Over The Counter" to learn more about my experience with GIRO over the counter. See, that is why I published articles relating to credit cards and FD so that I can easily provide in depth info over and over again without me need do explain the same thing over and over again, hahaha.
