Yes, going through all 5 versions made me did a lot of homework before even asking my first question here. But no one here has mentioned anything about successfully catching the trains when arriving by AA at 10:30pm. Mostly just slept at the airport. I've already booked my accommodation at Shibuya, so I need to get there no matter what  unsure.gif
*
My flight to Haneda with AA landed 30 minutes early. Cleared customs withing 30minutes and took the monorail to town centre. Managed to board the last train to my accommodation from Shinjuku. Didn't buy the Suica though. You can take the limousine bus if you worry on not making the last train.

I'm going to Kyoto on 13th Jan, so really hope the weather will be ok. The crowd should be lesser on that week hor compare to yours...
*
I guess it should be ok. 12th is a public holiday in Japan, so I guess the peak period is over. Also there are alot of overseas tourist and I guess there will be less as well, since a lot of them will be busy with first day at school, etc....

Japan Railpass can only be bought outside of Japan. So you need to buy within 3months before you travel to Japan.

sorry for my confusing post earlier. What I meant is once you buy the JR Pass, it is valid for 3 months. You can just buy it anytime from now on before you leave for Japan but better you buy it on early Feb. You can use credit card but they will charge 2% extra. And yes, I bought it from JTB, KL.

Came back from Kyoto last week. Was a last minute trip and was lucky to get a hotel and also shinkansen, a very early shinkansen though as its full with ppl balik kampung.
Was lucky that I miss the snow storm. Went to Kyoto during the Holidays and it was really jam pack with tourist especially the buses. At Kyoto station, you can see lots of people quieing to take buses. It will be better to take train as well, cause roads were jam as well......took about 20mins just to leave the vincinity of Kyoto Station.

I plan to go to Shirakawago Winter Light Up on 1 Feb 2015. Staying overnight at Takayama.
Based on my finding, all winter light up tour by bus are fully booked sad.gif

Last bus (Nohi Bus) from Shirakawago to Takayama is at 5.20pm while Winter light up start 5.30pm until 7.30pm.

I hv no idea how to back to takayama. Any other option ?

I've booked at airbnb
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2490387

Will be there on april this year. Cost rm250 per nite for 2 pax after airbnb discount. But the location was really good smile.gif

So far the rooms I've booked are around RM100 per person per nite (+25 if you wanted extra space or location), and mostly comes with free portable wifi, own toilet, kitchen and even washing machine or bikes ;D

I'm still working on the itinerary, once its done, might need you all to QC a lil notworthy.gif

QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Jan 5 2015, 10:44 AM)
Actually I did manage to get the luggage (landed around 10:30 PM), check out customs, buy Suica card (even played around with the machine to get familiarised with it) and board the train at 11:30 PM as I already have a hotel booking at Akihabara. So sleeping at the airport is out of the question. During my time, the customs clearance was smooth even though the flight was full. This was in February 2014. Plan your train route using hyperdia to see if it's feasible to reach your destination.

Thanks smile.gif Glad to hear it is possible. Gonna study haneda airport and hopefully dont waste too much time trying to find my way out and to the station.

Hi there,

We are travelling to Japan for the first time in 2015 for cherry blossom festival. May I know what are the suggested dates?

- Avoid Golden week in 2015 which falls on ?? to ??. What else to observe?

All dates after Chinese All Souls Day (Ching Ming) but avoid 23 - 28 May 2015. Appreciate some suggestions, will bring it to discuss with our travel agent.

Kodama (slowest tokaido train) will stop at Odawara. If you are having JR pass, then you can board this for free.

If you purchase the Hakone Pass at Shinjuku St, then the fare is inclusive  of the Odakyu railway.
If you use your JR pass for Kodama to Odawara, then get the Hakone Pass at Odawara.

Sorry, re quote your post again.
Did you mean the fare of 5140 yen inclusive of Odakyu Line Express? blush.gif Then it's pretty worth of it.
I'm still contemplating to get a JR pass or just Pasmo card? If I'm not mistaken Pasmo can be used for JR line as well. Your advice on this is very much appreciated. JR pass is also not cheap...
