I had an ant trapped in my lcd panel, I had to disassembled the whole panel, separated the frame holding multiple layers to remove the ant (man)...... and reassembled the panel and made it ant proof.... not advisable for novice users though...

Turn off all the lights in dark room take a picture again. I cannot tell if that is blacklight bleed or IPS glow. IPS does have some glowing issue. But if that is backlight bleed it is unacceptable.

hmm.gif Now I tried complete darkness, problem is my phone's crappy cam just can't deal with the task, though it still pickup the blue glow at the lower left corner.
But these color glow are still visible, just not as bad as previously - not sure if the monitor need some times to "warm up" or just some of the calibration I did fixed it a bit.

These "glows" aren't static though, if look from the left, the screen is on warm tone, and if I look from the right, it is on the cold tone...
On normal use of course I sit at the middle... and half of the screen is slightly cold and the other half slightly warm... the heck is wrong? doh.gif
Seriously first time using IPS panel, I do not expect such kind of visual problem...

Of course I don't really need a complete black screen to even see those glows, just view a website with dark background, or playing my favourite games like Path of Exile...

Haha. That is the IPS glow. Some IPS panel has minimal and some has more. I know it is annoying when you are displaying black. There's pretty much nothing you can do about it. In my humble opinion you should get DELL IPS instead of HP. At least the glow on DELL is not as bad.

Really? doh.gif Still, next week I gonna go to the shop and check out their other units see if the problem is as heavy as mine.
Well, my LCD broken yesterday morning and I'm in a rush to get a new one... Went to shop looking for Dell but none... So yea...

Looks like I got a really bad monitor... REALLY BAD monitor, I dunno if it is just unlucky defects or just products from HP are generally bad?
When I went through bunch of my works (I do some graphic stuff), I noticed this monitor have serious problem trying to get GREY correctly.
It always have yellow tint no matter how I calibrate it... Worst, when showing a calibration greyscale gradient image, it is VERY easy to notice some weird toning around, that my crappy phone camera also can pick it up > http://i.imgur.com/i3lyNKi.jpg
You might be able to see there are several "waves" of cold vertical areas sandwiched between those yellow tint areas... OMG what have I bought... a junk? shocking.gif

The cool tone look like IPS glow to me, but the yellow one seems like more a backlight bleed.

IPS glow - it changes when look from different angle. From the picture, it doesn't seems severe.
Bleed, same throughout no matter how you look at it.

IPS tends to have so called IPS glow, it is the nature of the panel, just more and less.

But, from experience buying a number of monitor (all IPS based due to better colour and viewing angle for office usage), I find that those more expensive IPS panel have less of it.

I find that IPS glow tend to happen more often in monitor instead of LCD TV, may be cheaper panel used in monitor?
I have a H-IPS LCD TV years ago, no glow, no bleed at all.

Since manufacturers change the blacklight from CCFL to LED, I also find the blacklight bleeding start more common at corner/edge of monitor.
I find LED light is not as good as CCFL, even for ordinary room lighting.
LED light always seems "odd" to me, not that natural.

I find it is a "pain" to buy a LCD monitor nowadays.

Unlike in the old day using CRT time, we don't need to worry about
1. Dead pixel
2. Colour accuracy
3. Glow (For IPS)
4. Bleeding.
5. Tinting problem.
6. Black problem.
7. Viewing angle (for TN)

There is always some luck element in getting a "perfect" LCD monitor.

While in the old day, 99.9% time you can get a "perfect" CRT monitor.

My office has one, picture is ok, but colour wise a bit "yellow" (for white background) even though I tried to calibrate it many time.
As compared another monitor (that recent bought), U2415's colour and crisp is way better than 2412m, but price tag also different a lot.

For general use, if not picky, I would say U2412m is ok.
But if picky (as mentioned not satisfy with 2414h, (which I don't know the reason), better go for premium panel.

I realised when the u2415 being delivered time as compared to U2412m, what you pay, what you get.
U2415 vs u2412m, price difference is about RM400+.

Hi.

can i get some monitor recommendations?
using asus nvidia gtx 750 ti, buying a monitor for gaming (non-FPS, dota2, 3d mmo) and movies (glossy is better?)

not looking for a specific brand.
easy to obtain and claim warranty.

23". but, if topping up a little can get me something bigger/better/worth the value, might as well go for it.
not so sure about the resolution I need/want.
read about g-sync, not sure too if i need that for the kind of games i play, but hey, "if topping up a little can get me something bigger/better/worth the value, might as well go for it"

thanks in advance.
