I got a home plug and cheaper wireless access point. Settle the case. Sometimes wireless extended doesn't help
totally agree on this workaround. using it too and it does help.Unifi Official TM UniFi High Speed Broadband Thread V19, ( -_・) ︻デ═一▸ Maxis & Time

QUOTE(e30 @ Nov 17 2014, 10:52 AM) Using vip10 in 2-storey house, modem router at downstairs living hall. Rooms upstairs get weak wifi signal, will those wifi range extender wall plugs help boost the signal upstairs? I do not intend to change the default unifi equipment yet. For me I used ASUS RT-N12HP as Range Extender solved my problem. Only cost me RM165 bought at Lowyat Plaza 2 weeks ago. Went back again and bought another unit for my brother as well. |

Guys, just wanna ask your opinion.
I've been using unifi with a TP-Link TL-WR841ND and a wireless repeater Aztech WL559e. My room upstairs is basically the furthest place from the router which is located at the living room next to the tv. Even with this setup is not super ideal but I'm still getting acceptable speeds. Without the repeater it's almost impossible to stay connected. I put the repeater upstairs outside my room and it's only getting one bar. On the manual is recommended to put it at a place that at least 2 bar but no matter where I put it upstairs it's still one bar. I've tried switching channel and all but theres no difference. Home plug doesn't work because my house is 3 phase wiring. Recently I've been looking at the asus RT-N14UHP. I wanna ask is there a difference compared to the tp link router? On paper it seems better but in real life application does it really has a high wireless coverage? |

QUOTE(Masamune @ Nov 19 2014, 02:05 PM) Guys, just wanna ask your opinion. i dunno tplink but for your case which is similar to mine - router at one corner downstairs and need wifi at the furthest corners upstairs, even my rt n12hp @rm199 can do the job. i hv 1 pc downstairs far corner and 2 android players upstairs far corners, all working fine on wifi.I've been using unifi with a TP-Link TL-WR841ND and a wireless repeater Aztech WL559e. On paper it seems better but in real life application does it really has a high wireless coverage? for typical 2-sty house, no need for homeplug or repeater. rt n14uhp will probably do an even better job. Also , recommendation not limited to Asus , I am open to try any router that is good and does the job well~ In my brother case, there was no coverage in his master bedroom and whole ground floor as his Unifi stock router was placed at his study room cum office which is located at the back-end of his second floor. With the ASUS RT-N12HP placed at the staircase corridoor (2nd floor), I can have full semi-d coverage (1,000 sq feet x 2) now when assigned the ASUS router as repeater / range extender.Install wifi detector app (WiFi Overview 360 Pro) in your android handphone, you can have better idea how weak your wifi signal around your house and with this info handy, you can place your repeater at the strategic location in your house for optimum coverage. |
