Hi Guys,
appreciate if you guys can suggest to me parts for my custom rig for me parents, Only CPU required

Budget: Max of rm3000, can go higher if needed, though generally the less the better of course

Purpose: Internet browsing, Full HD movies if possible, strictly no gaming

Hardwares that will be re-use: Peripherals and monitor

Games & softwares: Generally nothing a Core 2 Duo cant handle, they are currently on a C2D machine and its just perfect for their use but I aim to use it for other purposes.

Personal preferences: Intel build, generally smooth enough for daily use without problems

Several questions that I have,

1) will an i5 even be necessary considering the purpose?
2) is it possible to go without a graphic card? integrated perhaps? as I see it there is absolutely no use for it anyway besides movies?

Thanks in advance...

Well, why not go for the Intel NUC? Was that it's called. I kinda forgot about it. It's a mini PC, since you're just browsing and just watching movies.

the extra premium on the extra VRAM isnt much afaik, should be fine if he plans to play games that requires high VRAM (yes you Watch Dogs)

though he may reach GPU limit first before that, he can always tweak the settings to fit as per his liking wink.gif

im finding 3GB lacking if i turn everything up sweat.gif not sure game optimisation problem or games these days are texture hogger
*
But with 2GB VRAM is good enough lor, maybe need to tweak abit in the setting for Watch_Dogs like those textures etc etc. Hey, they optimised it in console more than PC, I hope GTA V isn't like that. But, people survived the bad port of GTA IV, ahhh...I just remembered that I was half-way finishing the game.

Thanks for the insight bro, interesting little thing, but won't it have a bit of an airflow or cooling issue?

and the upgrade potential is literally next to none?

Yea, it won't have the upgrade potential to it. I'm not sure of the airflow or cooling since you're not doing something that intense to it. So are you planning to game in the future or something?

I'm not sure about gaming in the future as of now but it sure as hell isn't a bad alternative haha.
So i believe a conventional setup would be the best way to go?

Thanks again for the replies btw.

only difference is hdmi to dvi don't carry any audio signal while hdmi in both ends carry both visual and audio signal. Both supports full HD resolution (aka 1080P)

Yup depends on luck. If taken care properly you night even use it longer than 3-4 years without issues if lucky. biggrin.gif

Yea, depending on luck and care of it.

A good airflow, dust-free and not stressing the card that much.

ok so after warranty end if anything happen, need to send to fix right?

for eg the powercolor card, if after warranty then send back to feiton since he carry the powercolor series right?

and what if after 1 year and he stop carrying the powercolor series. then what happens?

Good questions. I think the best person to answer this is feiton themselves. Check with them. wink.gif

I do not know whether these are sourced from Powercolor directly, with feiton themselves being the distributor and reseller at the same time, or are they just parallel imported via other channels. Regardless, if it exceeds the 1 year warranty, I suppose you are still able to send it back to them for repair (RMA), with some additional charges of course.

Yes, even after warranty if anything happens send it back. But repairs won't be free anymore lah as usual.

Yes, correct. Same answer.

Still should be able to send back for them to help you with the RMA process. Sellers are responsible for goods sold, even if they don't hold the distributorship or license anymore, as not doing so is akin to abandoning the customer and would not look good on powercolors part as well. I still fix and accept speaker brands that we have stopped carrying years ago. However, please still ask and confirm with feiton as rav3n said. smile.gif

oh but generally the rma process after the license end would be significantly more expensive compared to normal right?

and take a longer time too right?

No, why should it be? You have lesser reason to charge when you don't have a licence if we go by that logic.

Charges and time taken to RMA will be the same. They are sending it back to the same powercolor technicians using the same parts at the same price.
