the other way around, its AMD chip. powercolor (or other brands like Sapphire, MSI, ASUS, and others) just re-branding it by putting their own cooler, sometimes factory overclocked it and custom PCB.

Unless AMD expressly states they will no longer support such products I suppose it could. Plus if seller does expressly states there is a valid warranty. But why would you want to bit it anyways?

Well was just thinking if the extra core can help me in my software. Source Film Maker. And also thinking of trying to OC abit or so. So yea, still thinking whether to get it or not.

As i stated in the previous page extra cores don't mean anything if they perform slowly, which is for the most case true for AMD multi core chips.

You'll be better off getting something like a used 3570K in the garage sales if you wanna save.

I see, well then I guess should go with Intel then. Well this is my a budget rig so I don't want to spend much as it's a basic "Gaming Rig". I was thinking to upgrade the rig when got into uni or so. This rig just to play GTA V and finish the GTA IV this year laugh.gif

Hi there all,

Need your suggestions and recommendations on my dilemma.

Currently running first generation i7 with Cooler Master V8 on LGA 1156. Saw the news release about upcoming i7-4790K! drool.gif drool.gif

It looks tempting with the 4GHz base frequency.

My question is: worth to upgrade if MSI upgrades the BIOS to support it?

My only costing will be the processor + a better cooler maybe as I have a MSI Z87 board with me unused lying around since I do not have any processor to install on it sweat.gif sweat.gif

Going to reuse all my existing components to it rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Don't plan to overclock it since V8 performance is quite bad on my current rig so I am looking for highest base clock speed rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

First of all what is the purpose of your rig? Is it a gaming rig or...an editing rig etc etc? IMO it doesn't look much of an upgrade since you're not going to OC it and just want it's base freq. Mind telling me what i7 are you currently using right now?

He can go for a 500GB SSD. Just need to change the i5 to the 4460 @ RM 589 and take out the 750 Ti. Use a H97 Pro4 ITX @ RM 239 and get a ITX case. How about the Bitfenix Phenom? It's small brows.gif

to answer your question, yes it does support if MSI release an BIOS update to support it.
but the new chip has higher TDP, which mean overclocking it with Z87 boards is at your own risk.

Oh, hmm I didn't read that part ._.
Anyway Zer0 c00l you might want to look at IdealTech's quoted ITX Build. You can go to their website. idealtech.com.my
