He can go for a 500GB SSD. Just need to change the i5 to the 4460 @ RM 589 and take out the 750 Ti. Use a H97 Pro4 ITX @ RM 239 and get a ITX case. How about the Bitfenix Phenom? It's small brows.gif
*
By taking out the 750 Ti means no need for a GC for an ITX build?

man, i've been out of the desktop scene for too long, the Phenom looks great though

QUOTE(TheHitman47 @ Jun 4 2014, 04:59 PM)
i already suggesting him to go with ITX, but based on his quotes..he want to "stick with conventional setup".

If wana go gaming in the future let the 750 Ti in there.

Here's what I can come up with.

Proc - i5-4460 RM 589
Mobo - Asrock H97 Pro 4 ITX RM 349
HDD - 1TB WD Blue RM 189 x 2 = RM 378
RAM - 8GB Value RAM RM 239
GPU - Gainward GTX 750 Ti GS RM 540 or Gainward GTX 760 799
PSU - Antec VP-550w RM 199
Casing - Bitfenix Phenom RM 279

With 750 Ti
> RM 2,573

With 760 Reference
> RM 2,832

Optional
- SSD - Intel 530 Series RM 339 [ Comes with 5 Years Warranty ]
- Samsung 840 EVO RM 309

Both of these are 120GB SSD. I already included a 2TB drive in your build up there. So if you want SSD for fast booting still in yer budget.

im sure a CM elite 130 can even fit tri-x in there, but again im not sure exactly if CM 130 are mini itx case but it still compact and small.

anyway you can go with normal mid tower case, itx for me is more suitable for those who travel with their pc everywhere...kaki lan party or something like that. smile.gif

First of all what is the purpose of your rig? Is it a gaming rig or...an editing rig etc etc? IMO it doesn't look much of an upgrade since you're not going to OC it and just want it's base freq. Mind telling me what i7 are you currently using right now?
*

Currently running multiple VMware deployment images for VPN/Server/Game/Work. Want to upgrade RAM but the price is sick at the moment.

QUOTE(TheHitman47 @ Jun 4 2014, 04:57 PM)
to answer your question, yes it does support if MSI release an BIOS update to support it.
but the new chip has higher TDP, which mean overclocking it with Z87 boards is at your own risk.
*

I think should be fine since I don't plan to go crazy amount, maybe 4.6/4.8 at most but that's a later question.

And I just realised, I don't have any processor to run the board for BIOS update. I have no idea how to get this fixed first. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

doh.gif doh.gif

Edit: Another reason to upgrade is because I have CrossFire (6950) setup but my good board got fried and I am using only single GPU at the moment because CFX turns down the second PCI-E to X4 only on my current board sweat.gif sweat.gif and causes major stuttering in games mad.gif mad.gif

So yeah, my setup is broken at the moment. Can't find replacement board for my platform since it came out so long ago that supports X8/X8 PCI-E lanes and the risk of no warranty.

Thanks for your insights chaps, highly appreciated.

Since 3k is sort of over budget for my use, how bout i tweak it a little and make it 2k for the CPU, I'll keep 1k for my other hobbies lol

Based on the setup mentioned previously,

Proc - i5-4460 RM 589
Mobo - Asrock H97 Pro 4 ITX RM 349
HDD - 1TB WD Blue RM 189 x 2 = RM 378
RAM - 8GB Value RAM RM 239
GPU - Gainward GTX 750 Ti GS RM 540 or Gainward GTX 760 799
PSU - Antec VP-550w RM 199
Casing - Bitfenix Phenom RM 279

Possible if I retain everything except the GPU? I've googled about the H97 Pro 4 ITX but can't find any info if there is any onboard graphics.
another minor concern here, it seems the Phenom doesn't have an optical drive bay?

Again thanks for the replies.

Yes you can. The i5 itself already has integrated graphics. Intel HD 4600. I hope that helps.

the integrated graphics was provided by intel processor not motherboard itself, so its good.
about that ODD, did u really use it?. most ITX build doesnt use ODD.

if u want, need somebody to suggest other casing for u.

Can't really remember what PSU I'm using already tongue.gif have to go back and check. My desktop already 5 years old blush.gif IIRC its a 600W Silverstone PSU. Should be ok right? Considering the new cards should need less energy compared to my aging 4870

just wondering what are the specs of your computer?

CPU? ram?

a 5 years old rig might bottleneck the card though

Ahh I see, ok then the GPU part is sorted

About the ODD, I've checked and found externals are at about rm50 more than an internal one, I can live with that I suppose.

Besides the Phenom, I've come across the CM elite 130 as well but looks like it doesn't ventilate that well?
