And yeah, Sugre the reason we have to feed them mealworms is to give the gliders a good protein source so best to gutload them first. I call the petshop mealworms Anorexics lol I hate worms and insects too but gutloading them is kinda fun to do. Heh.

Whoa -- Hun -- your glider sounds cool. Especially since it can be friends with the dog. I still don't dare to let my glider have free roam around the room cause there's so many places where he can hide and it might not be safe. Also, it's only been 3 days -- scared I lose sight of him and I can't get him to come back to me. I need to get a tent la. Anyone here knows the price for a cheap one? Where to get? Tesco, Giant got meh?

Mine's only been with me for 3 days. But it doesn't crab at me and comes to me when I call him la. The only thing is that he still loves taking a bite of my skin every once in a while -- cry.gif -- but now I say to him no, no then he stops. Curious little fella. I read an article that says this behaviour is normal -- they love taking nips but whoa sometimes it hurts and sometimes he takes a tiny chunk of my skin off. laugh.gif Ouch. But nevermind, nevermind it's only been 3 days.

Now he's sleeping next to the keyboard. The thing I love about this glider is that he's pretty damn toilet trained. I'm amazed. Cause I read some horror stories online about glider's smearing their shit down the cage bars and peeing everywhere etc, but my glider climbs out of its pouch or coconut shell, stands on the tree branch, he sticks his butt out, he'll hiss once and then pee and poop. Then it's done. Usually at the same spot. Lucky, lucky. Hopefully, he'll keep this up. But since he's unneutered, his behaviour is bound to change and he'll start marking everything with his pee. doh.gif I heard about self mutilation too for unneutered gliders. Haih, a little worried about this. unsure.gif

I'm going to sandpaper down any sharp areas on the branch and wooden pole in his cage and double check that there's nothing that can possibly scratch or wound him on and in his coconut shell. And also, gotta work on making that Ecollar. sweat.gif

Well you peeps are lucky then. I know my SGs are rascals! And they will poo and pee on me if they have to do anything they do not want to do ie. playing outside the cage.

But I can't blame them critters because I can only spend a little time with them each day. Longer on weekend but not much. I have to discipline myself to take on their scratches and nips and the continual loving dispose of faeces on me.

Anyone can bond with their SGs without bringing them to work? I don't have much time outside work. Tell me your secret la!

Then just spend time with them whenever you are at home. Carry them on your shoulders while you wash clothes, wash dish, prepare dinner, watch tv.. they ain't that heavy biggrin.gif I did that with my gliders.

Suiteng, how did you first allow them to hang on your shoulders? I don't know la -- aiyo no confidence -- mine wants to do that but I'm so afraid that he would jump off and disappear under the couch or behind furnitures that I don't dare to let him out. ><; So he'll hang in my room on my arm and my shoulder but even then I'm so afraid he'll just jump behind the cupboard or under the bed. But yeah, I know this is part of the bonding process la -- he seems to trust me but I don't trust him yet not to run away. unsure.gif Which is why I'm going to get a tent and let him hang with me in there la first. But now every morning and afternoon he's with me in his pouch though.

Sugre, do your gliders come out onto your hand by their own? Or do you pick them up and bring them out? Because my friend's glider pees and poops cause she always has to bring him out. I place my hand in the cage and he comes out exploring on his own so he doesn't poop and pee. But...yeah he's pretty well toilet trained la. So far he only had one incident in his coconut shell where he peed in it, on the cloth but that was his first night. Yesterday was his 5th night with me -- no more problems.

Question To All: Do your gliders hiss when they pee/poop? According to some websites and the glider central forum, this might be an indication that the glider has UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). I wonder if there's an exotic vet specialist here who would be able to conduct a proper urinalysis --> all they need is for the glider to pee on a sterile surface or take a sample from the bladder directly via syringe rclxub.gif then take the sample in syringe and look at it under a microscope. A culture is usually done only if a treatment isn't working and the exact bacteria needs identified. Annual checkups should be done la. Especially for male gliders.

But whoa -- syringe + sugar glider + malaysian vet = shocking.gif

my boy used to hiss when he pees.. but only occasionally.. not all the time.. and during that time he had seizures very often.. sad.gif

took him to see a vet in tmn megah.. then the vet put him on multi-vit and calcium supplements.. after that, so far until now.. it doesn't happen again....

to sui teng: your gliders won't jump or climb around? i tried with mine.. but they run around and were too playful to stay in one position.. lol..

Answer to all question, you have to trust them, and they will love you. biggrin.gif My gliders have been doing that as routine, they are used to it. So they will stay at one position. Hmm.. perhaps Sasa is the curious one. She tends to jump from my shoulder to my honey's shoulder, that's all lor... Benben will sit there quietly and watch tv, occasionally licking my face and ask for mealworms tongue.gif

The price range around RM270. Forumers here such as smellyocheese and e1elme sell gliders.

Bond with a glider first, then only he will learn to stick to you like glue. I can carry my glider anywhere and she won't jump away unless she knows the person next to me.

yeah.. i'm still using them.. last really long.. the dosage is one drop multi vit, one drop calcium for one glider. small small bottle.. but lasts very long.. smile.gif

it's liquid form..btw..hehe.. so i squeeze out mealworms..and mix it with the vit and calcium supplement.. then they lap it all up. smile.gif

uh.... gliders are nocturnal. they shouldn't be very active in the day and please do not attempt to "convert their sleeping timing".

it's a very huge misconception that bonding and taming gliders means you have to play with them 24/7. you're gonna stress that poor thing and can die from stress.
bonding with gliders in the day means you keep it by your body in a pouch (PDA pouch or something). some girls here do "bra bonding". guys can put the glider in their shirt pockets. the glider will be sleeping and at the same time, getting used to your smell and they will appreciate your body heat and breathing movements. take them out for lunch, handfeeding them worms and fruits.

play with them at night while they're active.

adult gliders are extremely hard to tame. put a smelly t-shirt over the cage or as a lining of it's sleeping area to let it get used to your scent. slowly gain its trust by handfeeding. be prepared to get bitten and scratched at though. if you can't handle that, it'd be quite hard to tame.

My pie pie so clever rclxms.gif Taggy's sisters play with her but left her in her bag downstairs. the bag zipped. she learned how to open the zip already. so anyway, she opened the zip, found her way upstairs... looking for taggy. morning mummy see her playing with my meow (Tremmie). Now she's not scared of Tremmie already. lol.
