Thanks to ((boigamaniac)) I'm now a proud owner of a cute lil glider smile.gif I just took him home about two hours ago and he's doing fine. He's super adorable and certainly tame. Very quiet too. I gave him a bit of yoghurt, a slice of apple, a slice of pear and a slice of orange and he's finished eating the orange and is currently working on the apple. Wow. But no worries, I won't overfeed him. xD; He'll get his mealworm tomorrow morning. <333

Thanks smile.gif Have been reading up about gliders for some time but never thought about actually getting one until recently. Still, indeed there's always loads more to read up about hehe and yeah, will only be giving him a slice of orange 2/3 times a week. smile.gif

Question:

Where do you guys get your glider's daily vitamin/mineral supplement? I read one of smellyocheese's post where she mentioned Reptivite, Sera's Reptical C and the Exo Terra Calcimize. Where are these available at? What about vitamins?

HEhehe... finally you got your glider.

Reptivite you can get RM29 at Pets Wonderland but I bought the last bottle from MidValley heheheh.... Sera's Reptical C is RM36 I think.. Exo Terra Calcimize... I dunno how much. There is also another calcium, Wardley brand, Rm28 a bottle... I include these in my glider mix....
*
Haha okay well, thanks -- at least I know I can get the stuff at Pets Wonderland. And yeah, with regards to your glider mix, this friday right? tongue.gif

SuiTeng, Damn jealous of you! My gliders would not want to sleep with me. In fact they bit me when they woke up in my hand, I think they were shocked in waking up outside their cage. Sad cry.gif Keep telling my friend that they don't like me - "paranoid".
*

[/quote]

Whoa Sui Teng, your gliders are able to open the latch? Thank god I double secure the door with a tiny padlock. Mosly cause I don't want my little brothers to attempt to take him out of his cage la. sweat.gif

Sugre, yeah it's hard to get them to stop biting at first. My friend's glider bite, bite, bite until his skin break and there was blood too and it didn't want to stop. sweat.gif How to tahan la? Now also his glider just keeps biting not because it's scared but because it wants to. The glider loves to get out of its cage and onto his hand. After it bites it happily hangs about on his shoulder, taking occassional bites here and there. blink.gif

Wow Sui Teng that's a pretty long journey by itself. Amazing hehe now I'm thinking of that cat that was featured in Reader's Digest -- he travelled really far and returned back to his old home when the family moved. I think it took him about a few weeks. Animals can surprise the hell out of people la.

But whoa, I read in http://www.sugargliders.org about the lady who crushed her female glider and her little joey. They were sleeping next to her. sad.gif And also about the woman who accidentally flushed her glider in the loo ;0; it was hanging in her shirt but then it fell into the toilet bowl when she flushed. She couldn't grab it in time. Also, there was the glider that was hiding under the seat of a cushion, someone sat on it and it died. And finally some guy was heating up some oil on the kitchen stove. His glider was on his shoulder -- it fell into the pot. Like, damn.

Yeah Hun, that's a totally candid moment. Submit the video and pics to http://www.cuteoverload.com. tongue.gif

It's 3pm -- my Glider (I haven't given him a name) has been awake since 1 this afternoon. It's eating pear now. Yesterday la, he slept from 7am to 1am. But I gave him some food while he was in the pouch and he drank from his water bottle.

Question

Err..do you guys wash the mealworm(s) before feeding it to your glider? blush.gif

Okay so I bought quite a bit of mealworms today and I'm working on gutloading them for the next two days before feeding it to my glider. I'm using bran and I also put slices of apples and carrots as a water source for the worms la. The other thing I actually need is some high protein source insect food (for the mealworms)-- like this one --> http://www.sugar-gliders.com/gut-load.htm

Question: Anyone here knows where I can get the high protein source food for insects?

I wish in KL, we have these sort of stuff -- it's kinda cool -->

http://www.sugar-gliders.com/can-o-worms.htm

http://www.sugar-gliders.com/can-o-crickets.htm

http://www.sugar-gliders.com/can-o-grasshoppers.htm

My glider isn't into eating mealworms yet. I dangled one in front of him and also placed it on the floor but he wasn't interested lol he wanted the fruits instead. I had to cut the worms head off and leave it there for a while and then only he took a few bites. sweat.gif

I'm not going to my breed own mealworms because 1) they're smelly 2) i don't mind gutloading them 3) i hate insects like whoa -- so beetles are a no no -- i would just be a little too tempted to kill 'em. ><;

For high protein stuff, use super premium kitten food. Avoid ingredients such as garlic and onions in the kitten food. smile.gif

The mealworms will eat this? Or is this for the glider? Well, yeah I'm giving the glider kitten biscuits but only a little bit -- will do this 3-4 times a week la. smile.gif

Thanks Reanne -- but yeah laugh.gif I won't use crickets cause omg I really, really cannot tahan insects la. See only must kill. whistling.gif

TAGreptiles -- so would I be able to gutload the mealworms with that cricket meal? SS19...hmm, I'll go check it out. I wonder if Snakes & Tails have these kinda stuff. I'm going to go check out Pet Safari also la. Hopefully they won't look look at me one kind if I ask for high protein source food for mealworms/insects. laugh.gif What about you guys? Do you breed the mealworms yourself? Do you gutload them? I scared la the petstore never feed the worms properly, then give to the glider also -- cheh -- no use la if its a bunch of anorexic unhealthy worms. Better gutload them first hehe.

And yeah, Sugre the reason we have to feed them mealworms is to give the gliders a good protein source so best to gutload them first. I call the petshop mealworms Anorexics lol I hate worms and insects too but gutloading them is kinda fun to do. Heh.

Whoa -- Hun -- your glider sounds cool. Especially since it can be friends with the dog. I still don't dare to let my glider have free roam around the room cause there's so many places where he can hide and it might not be safe. Also, it's only been 3 days -- scared I lose sight of him and I can't get him to come back to me. I need to get a tent la. Anyone here knows the price for a cheap one? Where to get? Tesco, Giant got meh?

Mine's only been with me for 3 days. But it doesn't crab at me and comes to me when I call him la. The only thing is that he still loves taking a bite of my skin every once in a while -- cry.gif -- but now I say to him no, no then he stops. Curious little fella. I read an article that says this behaviour is normal -- they love taking nips but whoa sometimes it hurts and sometimes he takes a tiny chunk of my skin off. laugh.gif Ouch. But nevermind, nevermind it's only been 3 days.

Now he's sleeping next to the keyboard. The thing I love about this glider is that he's pretty damn toilet trained. I'm amazed. Cause I read some horror stories online about glider's smearing their shit down the cage bars and peeing everywhere etc, but my glider climbs out of its pouch or coconut shell, stands on the tree branch, he sticks his butt out, he'll hiss once and then pee and poop. Then it's done. Usually at the same spot. Lucky, lucky. Hopefully, he'll keep this up. But since he's unneutered, his behaviour is bound to change and he'll start marking everything with his pee. doh.gif I heard about self mutilation too for unneutered gliders. Haih, a little worried about this. unsure.gif

Read -->

http://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/show...ge=0#Post494411

I'm going to sandpaper down any sharp areas on the branch and wooden pole in his cage and double check that there's nothing that can possibly scratch or wound him on and in his coconut shell. And also, gotta work on making that Ecollar. sweat.gif

Then just spend time with them whenever you are at home. Carry them on your shoulders while you wash clothes, wash dish, prepare dinner, watch tv.. they ain't that heavy biggrin.gif I did that with my gliders.
*
Suiteng, how did you first allow them to hang on your shoulders? I don't know la -- aiyo no confidence -- mine wants to do that but I'm so afraid that he would jump off and disappear under the couch or behind furnitures that I don't dare to let him out. ><; So he'll hang in my room on my arm and my shoulder but even then I'm so afraid he'll just jump behind the cupboard or under the bed. But yeah, I know this is part of the bonding process la -- he seems to trust me but I don't trust him yet not to run away. unsure.gif Which is why I'm going to get a tent and let him hang with me in there la first. But now every morning and afternoon he's with me in his pouch though.

Sugre, do your gliders come out onto your hand by their own? Or do you pick them up and bring them out? Because my friend's glider pees and poops cause she always has to bring him out. I place my hand in the cage and he comes out exploring on his own so he doesn't poop and pee. But...yeah he's pretty well toilet trained la. So far he only had one incident in his coconut shell where he peed in it, on the cloth but that was his first night. Yesterday was his 5th night with me -- no more problems.

Question To All: Do your gliders hiss when they pee/poop? According to some websites and the glider central forum, this might be an indication that the glider has UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). I wonder if there's an exotic vet specialist here who would be able to conduct a proper urinalysis --> all they need is for the glider to pee on a sterile surface or take a sample from the bladder directly via syringe rclxub.gif then take the sample in syringe and look at it under a microscope. A culture is usually done only if a treatment isn't working and the exact bacteria needs identified. Annual checkups should be done la. Especially for male gliders.

But whoa -- syringe + sugar glider + malaysian vet = shocking.gif

Aiyo, can open the zip also wan ar -- lol i love how they're so smart. but eeps, dangerous dangerous sweat.gif just now mine (i haven't figured out a name for him but since he's a boy and taking care of him is like taking care of a baby -- so i've been calling him baby boy only and he's been responding to it laugh.gif damn what an original name whistling.gif ) so anyways, just now baby boy was hanging in the kitchen with me while I was preparing his dinner. he kept stealing the honeydew before i could put it in his bowl -- took one in both hands. and then he licked some remaining yoghurt off of the spoon. greedy greedy.

Wow -- I'm really amazed at those of you who have the confidence to let your gliders roam around while you're out in public. I'm so afraid that he'll run away. right now, i'm still too overprotective la tongue.gif hehe
