A good diet would be to give various fruits such as mango, apple, pear, a bit of grapes wouldn't hurt either. Protein can be from boiled eggs, boiled chicken, mealworms and crickets. The only source of protein I've seen them take willingly are crickets and mealworms. If you can, give more crickets and less mealies, cuz mealies are high in fat.

You can still use some applesauce, but don't give it as a staple. Ratio of fruits and protein is roughly 50 : 50.

Another thing, gutloading crickets and mealworms 12 to 24 hours prior to feeding is advisable. Make sure you feed the crickets high protein stuff like high quality dog/cat kibble, if not they'll start to eat each other.

Ack I fell for the Quicko thing as well at Ikano. My glider wouldn't touch it..and then when I looked it up on the net i found nothing but bad reviews. Kinda dissapointed at the Ikano pet store for bringing in this crappy product and offering nothing else for gliders sad.gif

imo they shouldn't be selling gliders if they can't offer the proper food for em as well.

Boiled egg will do also, fast and easy source of protein. If not, teach them how to eat mealworms (calcium & protein).

Maybe eating too much dried things and drinking not enough water leads to hard poo?

My SG don't even want to bite an apple or a kiwi fruit, let alone eat anything solid! And for water, it don't drink it at all. Just keep on lapping on the applesauce.

Is it ok to give it some milk?

Just a few days plus or minus 2 months. The tail had just started to fizzle out a few days ago. From head to toe it's about... 2.5 to 3 inches.

Soggie,

If your glider is really young and can't eat any solids yet you can still feed it the Gerber baby food and some soft fruits. Try and tempt it with some meal worms by cutting its head off and squeezng the guts out (gross). Better yet... buy a mix! Or make one yourself.

The best way to make your SG eat mix is to not feed it the apple sauce or fruits etc.. Just the give it the mix for a few days until it gets used to it. And then introduce different fruits and some mealies.

My SGs are quite picky eaters too nod.gif

Oooh and I got my SGs to sleep together again by removing the shirt from the top of the cage. This way they have to sleep together in their soft bed for warmth. brows.gif

I'm heading off to makro to get my supplies tonight. Is this the correct mix?

Apple Juice
Honey
Boiled Egg/Boiled Chicken w/o skin
Gerber Baby Cereal
Wheat Germ
Calcium (not sure where can I get it though...)
Herptivite (... no idea again.. I think it's a kind of multi-vitamins)

I do not think you will feed the all the mix at one time and u need to freeze the extra mix in the freezer. squeezing mealworm juices into the mix will cause the mix to go bad. Not a good idea.

That's the standard mix so it is fine. Mine is a little different. Go with it. Let her try the mix and see if she likes it. Remember to blend the mix properly and freeze it in the freezer. Give her a tablespoon of mix at night and make sure she eats it. Just give her the mix for the next few days.

Good luck! I am sure she will love it. Before this my SGs refuse to eat my mix, now they prefer it over the fruits I give them.

Hi everyone. I've just got my gliders few weeks ago. Any tips for me to make them bond to me? i've tried a few like putting in my shirt and trying to let them lick from my fingers but they just won't come. My gliders are a few months old but they don't seem to drink any water. About the calcium i use REPTOR C and i give a small pinch of it for their meal everynight is this ok?For their house i hang a cocounut shell. Must i put some cloth in it to make them warm? When i feed with mealworms which i put in their house they will start to make the crabbing sound.

Well it takes time I guess... Feed it more using ur hand, and have lots of patience. Let it climb onto your finger, but don't be too intrusive... Just leave ur finger there and let them choose whether to climb up or not. I hold it in my palm during the day and it refuses to go back to its cage cause my hand is so much warmer.

What do you feed em?

To bond with your gliders, it's recommended not to use the coconut shell during the first few weeks. Just put your smelly T Shirt (that you don't want anymore) into the gliders cage for them to sleep in. When they are used to sleeping in your smelly shirt, they will think that you are a familiar person and will slowly stop crabbing at you.

So, take away the coconut shell and replace it with your shirt and see what happens smile.gif

No no... no pineapple and citrus. Too much of that make them poo water. Too much watermelon or papaya will make them poo red red also (seems very troublesome huh?).

They will be ok sleeping on shirt, if they are cold they will go inside and cover themselves wan..

For calcium you can buy supplement or give them cat kibbles (infant) once a week. I use cat kibbles for infant, once a week. But bear in mind, after eating their pee will be smelly. doh.gif
