Hi, I am new to this...after reading the first page about having Sugar Glider as a pet....I decided to get one...

Got it last Saturday....I think mine is the wild adult sugar glider....already cocoa brown colour....but he has been very shy on the first day i got him...hiding inside the coconut...

I feed him apple...and "koa chi"....

On second day, i try to touch him and feed him koa chi and apple...he takes it off from my hand...and also he is okay that i pet him and touch his tail....

But his hours very gila loh..he would sleep until 10.30pm only wake up...then only active at around 11.30pm.....he is active in the early morning at 8.00am....

I want to take him out and play but i worry that might stress him out....i put in my used t-shirt...cut out both of my sleeves and put in there...hope he will get use with it and slowly let me carry him out....

Can tell me more how you play with him?

never bath your sg. their fur is like chinchillas, extremely dense. if they get wet, it will be hard to dry and may contract fungal diseases. what you can do, use baby wipes like suiteng does (am i correct?) or use absorbent homes like maybe coconut shell, wooden boxes available in major pet stores, or use good quality bedding. for bedding i'd recommend either aspen crumble or corn cob. i'm currently using corn cob, and it works fine for me.

also, part of the reason could be your gliders diet. is your glider's feces in pieces or liquid-like? if liquid like, then there's something in your gliders diet you should not be feeding.

to cheaka:
adult sgs are usually difficult, if not impossible to train and get used to the owner. but from what you've mentioned, it seems that the glider has been a lil accustomed to human company. use mealworms to 'bribe' your gliders on to your hand, but becareful not to feed too many, as i heard mealies are fattening, so limit about 4-6 a day. your tshirt tactic works, but use an unwanted smelly shirt will be better. have you heard of the pouch? get a small pouch made from breathable fabric and use it as housing or 'bed' for your glider. then when ur sg is sleeping in it, carry it around everywhere you go by hanging around your neck, get it accustomed to your body heat and smell.

to both: try to vary your glider's diet, read up more on caresheets and foods which are good for them, and which are not. do your research! smile.gif

good luck to both of you

Coz what i've read sugar glider which is lack of calcium the hind legs will not be strong and in the end it will die. So i'm very scared if i giv them not enough of calcium

how old is your glider? gerber is fine. try different flavours see which one ur glider likes. only certain dry kitten food is good. apple is fine. try grapes and non-citruous fruits. feed mealies as treats, they love it.

check this link out http://www.sugar-gliders.com/sugar-glider-diet.htm
you'll have more idea of what to feed your glider.

oh, for now, pouch will be fine. use coconut shell only when the glider has bonded with you.

pouch, virtually anywhere as long as your glider can sleep comfortably and also, make sure its breathable fabric otherwise ur glider will suffocate in it. mealworms, also any pet store... even those selling only fish will have mealies. oh yes, gut load your mealworms (feed the mealies before feeding them). the mealies are relatively cheap.

cute guy. but why gollum? lol. try not to use flash photography when taking shots of animals. the flash may scare them or deteorate their eyesight.

Help! My gliders are attacking each other! I was getting ready for work and heard so many loud squeakings and bangings on the cage. They are jumping on each other and biting and then jumping apart and running around like crazy and then attacking again.

I am worried... should I leave them together? Separate them? Anyone here knows why they are fighting? rclxub.gif

hahha...a long story in naming him gollum...but he still don't know his name is gollum...

i didn't have time to look for the pouch as the pet shop near my house don't sell things for pets like this... sad.gif ...so i use my black shoe bag (breathable)...i took him out the whole day yesterday .... he was okay...make some noise when i try to take him out from the cage.. he was hiding in the coconut shell.....i feed him fruits everytime i check inside the bag...he takes the red guava. i think he must be thirsty. as i noticed he never drink water from the container in the cage...i worry he might dehydrate.

do SG drink lots of water? do i have to show them where to drink the water from?

at around 9.30pm...he was getting abit active inside the bag...so i try to take him out...but he is too shy to get out until he makes that noise again....he refuse to walk to my hand or anything yet....just let me touch him and feed him....can teach me how? as i want to play with him but he is always hiding in the dark....

even at night...my house light is not very strong...but he refuse to come out the coconut shell...when i have the lights off..then he will only come out himself....how to train him on that?

@cheaka

At first, you need a lot of patience with him. Firstly, the water. Are you using waterdish or the bottle? If you use the bottle, you might need to train him a bit on how to use..

About the bag, just buy a drawstring bag from the RM5 shop. I think some forumers here can recommend where, I'm not sure where to get but I got mine from Ikano. Breathable ones will do.

Try not to use coconut shell for the first few weeks. Let him sleep on your smelly shirt for a while biggrin.gif Like this it's easier to interact with him smile.gif
