Hi everyone. I am kind of new here. I enjoy reading all discussions from otai otai here. Actually just wanna seek some advice and any chance for me to further my career in oil and gas industry? I have working experience in various sector in marine and oil and gas (both downstream and upstream) for 3years++.
Start with marine industry by sailing with shin yang shipping as cadet engine, after end of contract for a year, got offered from muhibbah marine engineering as project coordinator for ship repair division and working in shipyard environment, then make a hard decision jump to oil and gas industry by further study at INSTEP and undergoes ITA at gas processing plant with petronas gas berhad for 6months, waiting for job offer from petronas but no good news. And then, start seeking for other job until got offered from slb as mwd field specialist trainee. Almost 7months in slb.
Really need advice from otai otai because my aim just wannabe a production technician since i made my decision to jump to this industry. Already apply to many operator companies (pcsb, murphy, petrofac, chess, hess, newfield, exxon, talisman, coastal energy, etc..) but still no luck. Most of the operators seeking for experience technician.
Psst: I'm not seeking for high paid salary. Worklife balance just my priority since oil field service company doesnt provide fixed schedule for worker (especially for drilling sector). Eventhough I realize mlwd FS position has good career prospect which can lead me to become DD and know more about petrophysics, geomechanics and etc,but i still aimming for production technician.

QUOTE(kennykoo66 @ Aug 6 2014, 09:44 AM) Any taikos here working in MMHE? would like to ask experience for working in there... I got an offer as the epsilon trainee. i understand that mmhe is more towards fabrication works but i prefer a field operation type of jobs. I would like to know that is that possible to move to field jobs after completing the training?? It is a great chances for me to gain experience as im a fresh grad but if i sign the contract I will be working in mmhe for at least 4yrs. Hi. I'm not a taiko, but I work in MMHE . From my experience looking at the current batch of Epsilon trainees, they will have a number of 3 months rotation across different parts of the business which includes Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain Management. You will be assessed and you will also give assessments to the departments where you are placed so this will ensure that the departments will give you some sort of training or on-the-job experience as this will be part of their KPI. Towards the end of the programme, once you have a tendency or preference to certain departments, you will probably be stationed there. However, this will also be based on your performance throughout the programme. If you aspire to be in field operations, you might want to join the hook up and commissioning department where you will have the highest chances to go offshore.

QUOTE(vankodoq @ Aug 6 2014, 03:48 PM) You might want to try Schlumberger and Baker-Hughes. Based on performance, they are known to send people to different posts in different places. Ok, I submit the application via website, but I don't think there is high chance to get there via website application. Any suggestion on any other way to get in? thanks

The cheapest would be to stay in MMHE Flat which you can only apply after joining the company but in my personal opinion, the living condition there is not very condusive. In accepting the offer, you will risk being bonded by MMHE and not being able to accept better offers that might come in the future..but..it is always better than being jobless

I know some of my friends who got their first jobs after dropping CVs or having on-the-spot interviews in job fairs. However, as undertaker123 has said, just be patient. More people are going for oil service company compared to oil company, so they have more candidates to choose from.

QUOTE(wywy2020 @ Aug 10 2014, 09:51 PM) I thought oil company earn the most? Oil service company, as I know it, works as contractor. Therefore the engineers may have base salary less than those in oil company, but they usually have more bonuses (e.g. away-from-base bonus, offshore bonus, overtime bonus, etc.). Ultimately, these bonuses often lead to greater take-home-pay compared to oil companies. Again, comparison should be done peer-to-peer (e.g. fresh-to-fresh). From my circle of networks, it's not unusual to hear that a fresh graduate in oil service company earns 2-3 times the take-home-pay of an fresh grad in oil company. QUOTE(wywy2020 @ Aug 10 2014, 02:51 PM) I thought oil company earn the most? Oil service companies enjoy higher profit margin % due to lesser risk and capital invested. Oil companies, however is very capital intensive, and risky too (of dry holes)!
