Fearing of what gonna happen next, I went to Singapore earlier this week and starts submitting my resume by hand to major oil companies operating there.

Seems a bummer, alot of my friends who used to work in manufacturing fortunate, one who use to work at TI got the aker solution grad subsea programmme and sent to Norway and a QA engineermat my old factory got a Technip position, seems the good old days were in between 2010-2012.

Texas Instrument = TI.

Its not so much about pay but about career progression.

Aker does pay better, my friend from Penang worked in OSRAM now work in the riser production line in Klang and her pay increase significantly plus the job is easier than her days in semiconductor to the extent she said she was bored  . My acquaintance who used to work at TI Ulu Klang is now based in Norway permanently after training for 2 years designing sub sea components for Malaysian projects that beats stuck in a clean room 9-5 and being on call even during weekends with no OT and 3% annual pay rise.

For technip it depends on your level, entry level 2k plus but have good job security and perks and bonus.

My acquaintances say its hard job but they do have job satisfaction and they can be very mobile in the OnG industry and go work abroad, even if malaysian oil habis there are oil in other place, but true the industry wants experienced workers, and only big operators and service companies like SLB,halliburton,Shell and Petronas willing to take grads and train them, the small companies will hire specialists or experience people only.

I met my TI friend last time at a wedding in June 2011,he was still at kilang TI then, we talked he was finding lobang to get out of TI coz he hated the job with not so good management, that September he got the Subsea Engineer Graduate Program from Aker, and straight flew to Norway. I guess he applied at the right time. Now he is Norway and comes back to Malaysia from time to time to visit wife and baby, but I think eventually Aker will move the subsea design dept to Malaysia possibly to Klang and that building at Jalan Ampang, thats why my fren still in Norway to bring train and develop Malaysian expertise, he is now a Senior Engineer. He had Mechatronic Degree.

My Penang friend say almost top up RM2k over her kilang job, sorry to say she says she got problem at Penang plant which hamper her career progerssion plus quite low salary although she enjoyed being sent to Germany for 3 months, she loved the job and passionate making the sapphire substrate but the office politics not good, which is typical in kilang environment.Anyway she has a Chem Eng degree.

Good luck if you want to jump, small advice bear in mind thousand of people everyday looking opportunity to join oil n gas or want your current position

True that. I worked as an accountant in an oilfield services co and my increment/bonus were like peanuts only.

That's pretty much it. If you REALLY want to join service company, look out for job fairs or anything similar. I know some of my friends who got their first jobs after dropping CVs or having on-the-spot interviews in job fairs. However, as undertaker123 has said, just be patient. More people are going for oil service company compared to oil company, so they have more candidates to choose from.

I dont know why they call me for iv. In my resume, i already list down all my experience, my qualification and my competencies. They just wasting my money for transportation etc. & yet they still want to kiv me for next project.

Project engineer in o&g possible to earn big bucks e.g rm15k with 5 years working experience?

Between operation engineer and project engineer, which one has better prospect and better salary?

That kind of money is entirely possible depending on the scale and complexity of the project.

Project engineer = Good salary but once you hit post handover and you don't get an offer to move to operations or a new project. You join the unemployment line. Also your roster is infinitely more shitty and stress levels are higher.

Operations = Stable job, decent pay + benefits and better rotation. But your pay packet will suffer lah and you won't be exposed to the more challenging aspects of implementation.

S* who? my company is under fgv(not sure if glc or what  ) . the job is okay for now but the industry is too slow. working hard for 5 yrs only can get roughly 5k-7k salary.

Previously I work in manufacturing. I can understand cut cost this and that. I joined oil&gas few years back. Nowadays o&g also downsizing and cut cost.

Anyone here know of specific jobs/companies in the oil and gas industry for a USA grad with a degree Geology/Environmental Sciences? I haven't actually graduated yet, just wondering what the prospects are in this sector.

My skill sets are leaning more towards stuff like surface geophysics, borehole drilling, environmental assessment, hydrogeology (water resources), etc.

Hi, I'm fresh graduate from UTM. I took bachelor degree in chemical-gas engineering.. I'm seeking for my first job in O&G industry but I found it hard to secure for my first job since many companies prefer for who have experience rather than fresh graduate. Unfortunately I only got second lower class for my study that make me not qualified to join any graduate programme such as Petronas GESS, Prodigy, BP, Exxon etc.. Anyone here know what company in O&G open vacancy for fresh graduate?? I dont mind any company as long I can get experience there to remove my fresh graduate title.. I willing to learn.. I hope otai2 here can help me.. tqvm..
