Technip is rumoured to be downsizing its staff soon. VSS will be on the plate.

This is the first time ever that Technip will layoff some of its staff since the company was set up in early 1980's.

Earlier RWorley reduced its staff by almost to 1/3.

O&G engineering development area is certainly in the downturn.

JOBS AND CAREERS

I took this from Maersk Drilling Website. They also provide DP training and other maritime courses.

DYNAMIC POSITIONING OFFICER (DPO)
What does the work consist of?

The DPO is responsible for the daily maintenance of the draught, trim and stability of our floating units (Semi-submersibles or Drillships). Furthermore the DPO is responsible for keeping the GMDSS radio watch, updating the radio logbook and testing the GMDSS equipment as well as assisting the Barge Engineer and Safety Officer in the maintenance and updating of the rig’s marine and safety equipment as required.
What do I need to know to hold the position?

In order to hold this position, you must have the following:

Certificate of competency – STCW 95 II/2 (Master Mariner Unlimited) is required for promotion possibilities
Full DP Operator’s certificate (issued by Nautical Institute or similar)
GMDSS certificate
How do I get there?

You typically start your career in the maritime industry where you obtain your marine officer certificates, including experience with Dynamic Positioning. Once you have obtained the certificates, you can start your career in the offshore industry as Dynamic Positioning Officer.
You maybe want to see the vacancies for marine crews (drilling rigs) in below list..I'm working with one of them.

Transocean www.deepwater.com
Seadrill www.seadrill.com
Ensco www.enscoplc.com
Diamond Offshore
Atwood Oceanics
Noble Drilling

And other deepwater drilling contractors...

thanks for the response , they want master mariner unlimited..
well still a long way to go for me then..
start career as dynamic positioning officer? mean , i have to join ship with dp
where can i get dp certificate in malaysia? i heard ALAM already stop the course ,anywhere else the course is available?

Early this year, I was offered a DP post.
Currently, lot of vessels in a company which is the subsidiary of an O&G operator with DP Class 1. So there is a requirement to upgrade to DP Class 2, this company which offering me this posting was tasked for this upgrading.

DP is totally not relevant to my oilfield tubular experience when was offered of this DP post. So, it is about attitude, skills and experience, and of course qualifications. Just through 2 times phone interview, I was offered directly the DP post.

It is not the 1st question, how much is the Salary which always coming out from some fresh grads.
*
well , ofshore is very new to me . i really want to join the industry as DP , just that i dont have proper guide how to join there . most company i applied , only want those with offshore experience , or have experience with dp ship , therefore im unable to join as 2/o or 3/o .

Plus the recent indonesia election also cause some disruptions on bid awards; push further the schedule lol.

my company now is actively making presence in latin america and india. And since all vessels are mob from HQ in singapore, so its still better than some mnc who segregate businesses in different regions xP
