QUOTE(kslee79 @ Aug 3 2014, 12:11 PM) If can, ask for equal time off. Most international rotators get that. If you're working in your own home country (I assumed Malaysia), then cannot laa since not deem as rotating but on-call basis. 5:1 ratio is harsh as most guys in Mid-East on 6:4 (6 weeks on, 4 weeks off). QUOTE(echobrainproject @ Aug 3 2014, 12:56 PM) however for contractors its normal for 5:1. In fact some do give 7:1 and but the longer you stay you do get more (example: 3 weeks on, 3+1 days.) Yea I'm on construction contractor side. Per day allowance isnt that great too. Competitors who gives better allowance will be offset with higher ratio (like EMAS is 6:1 if not mistaken). Quite jelly the client side package. Anyway my contract has 30 days annual leave, not much can complain though

Just a question. Currently am a field/project engineer for a EPCI contractor, still in the early years of my career. Just wondering what are the possibility to enter oilfield services/drilling/operator side in the future? What kind of new experience/knowledge/applicability that I will be expecting?

QUOTE(Stamp @ Sep 12 2014, 04:17 PM) Technip is rumoured to be downsizing its staff soon. VSS will be on the plate. This is the first time ever that Technip will layoff some of its staff since the company was set up in early 1980's. Earlier RWorley reduced its staff by almost to 1/3. O&G engineering development area is certainly in the downturn. my friend from technip said the same. At the same time looks like Saipem, McDermott, and few others contractor that i know off is downsizing. All happen in south east asia region i believe.. so few big projects coming in

QUOTE(x0x @ Sep 13 2014, 11:05 AM) so far 1-2 epcic job per year by PETRONAS..all epcic contranctor now downsizing and trying to bring in international job but its a really competitive market outside manpower demand is low nowadays Plus the recent indonesia election also cause some disruptions on bid awards; push further the schedule lol. my company now is actively making presence in latin america and india. And since all vessels are mob from HQ in singapore, so its still better than some mnc who segregate businesses in different regions xP
