seriously....no offense but Sony do not have the 'pedigree' ...price point YES. If your a serious photo-enthusiast , you would prolly pick a Nikon pro-sumer cam over the rest....but that would open another can of worms and i might end up runnin foul and not in the mod's goodbook hehe.

p/s what was i thinkin arguing with someone who has 1.7k post huh notworthy.gif

With the more common format, Easier to share with Friends and family. Just pop into a PDA and walah! You can view it on the bigger screen without the presence of the Camera.

As for Canon. They make their OWN lenses and the S3IS being made with UD ultra Low dispersion glass is a plus factor. From the reviews, the S3IS pawns all the rest in its class and age. Some of the newer ones can pack their bags as well..... A reason we see lots of new buyers. smile.gif

Hey, anyone who wants to sell an S3IS can contact llamasonic. That bro is frantically searching for a unit now. Just helping him to look for one since I was in contact with him recently...... smile.gif

well, I have always thought that Sony is the best.

But till I read the reviews on Canon and Nikon, they are among the industry's top brands...

I am also deciding between Canon S3 IS and Pana FZ-8...

Guess I am going for S3, come bro... Join me... biggrin.gif

Me too, b4 I finally decided to buy S3is, I have gone through all the review from mags and online forum, Canon S3is still the best in this specific class range.

SONY is good and pricey as usual but the design changing quite often and the accessories might not be compatible from one generation to another generation.

Fujifilm produce good prosumer camera(DLSR wannabe) and produce good result with the super ccd techonolgy, BUT limited official accessories and still using slow and small size XD card. BTW manual zoom ring is cool.

Pana is an emerging brand and invading the market like mad cow. The speed of launching new model is the TOP in the market. The latest model you holding now will be replace after few months time. Where's the value?? Their camera still have lot of room for improvements.

Just my 2cents, no offence tongue.gif

haha.. ultimately, despite all thoughts and preferences, it is still safe to say that the s3is is a great camera. like all other products, we have choices and each product has its own pros and cons.

i mentioned the sony h9/h7 because it is priced similarly to the s3is
but to me, i have seen the pictures taken with the sony and it is a bit disappointing really. if it is for 6X4 pics, then no probs but most camera can do that.

due to the number of cameras in the market, it is really difficult to pin one down as king. we have Fz8, olympus 550uz , canon s3is, sony h7/h9 , fuji 6500 adn 9600 and also kodak z712 all competing in the same market for prosumer cameras.

but personally, in terms of overall, s3is is my choice. great price (now) with great overall quality.

my thoughts...i might be wrong

ymjay.... can't agree with you more than that...

Dispite many models within the range mentioned "Fz8, olympus 550uz , canon s3is, sony h7/h9 , fuji 6500 adn 9600 and also kodak z712 all competing in the same market for prosumer cameras."

My personal view would be still canon S3 IS icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

I will get one soon, how bout you vmjay? I need the camera by next week too... (if possible) smile.gif

Lucky you Sherren. I too wished I had a beach near where I live, a Botanical gardens or even a famous Hill. It saddens me that last CNY I couldn't find the time to go up to Penang Hill. Wanted to try out some Wide-angle shots with the lens I had. I guess I'll have to wait till next CNY or hopefully in a month or twos time.... smile.gif

Checked with Canon, warranty only applicable to sets bought within Malaysia from Authorised/accredited dealers. Sets bought elsewhere will be treated as non-warranty items = hefty charges.
