QUOTE(tty8890 @ May 18 2014, 08:01 PM) newbie question here: Do I need to open a Singapore bank account if I want to work in Singapore? Or I can use Malaysia local bank like Maybank? Thanks in advance Get the job first then use the appointment letter to open bank account. If not mistaken Maybank Sg is not directly connected to Malaysia's thus you will need to open a new account here.Walking in a bank with only a passport will not work. So get the job first |

Hello guys, recently just got a new job in SG as poly fresh grads. Currently still staying in JB and travel daily. Just have a simple question, what's the fastest way to travel to Tanjong Pagar?
Currently I'm CIQ > CW1 to Kranji > MRT to Tanjong Pagar. Thinking to try CW2 to bugis but worrying it will be jam during the journey. Will find a room soon in SG anyway. |

Any investment bankers or hedge fund managers working in Singapore now? Wanna know more about their culture as I heard it differentiates from the western countries very much.

Except for the French, most developed financial markets are pretty much the same culturally. Long hours, apathetic behavior, results-driven. Not surprising in a culture that promotes superstars. |

Long hours, highly stressful environment, very political, double standards - if you're white and can KC with mgmt - you're ok. If you're asian and cannot KC with mgmt, high risk of getting laid off, shitty pay and bonus (if you're below VP or equivalent position), zero job security - hire fire as they please, very result oriented and unforgiving - miss your targets - bye-bye. Barclays just layed-off some more IB people....hoorah! This post has been edited by robertchoo: May 18 2014, 10:09 PM |

I don’t understand your question. Are you talking about IBs in Singapore or western side? In a culture that necessitates ego, you will be an outcast to complain about workloads. Perhaps support functions in these institutions suit your personality more. |
