QUOTE(Y.J.S @ May 18 2014, 09:32 PM) Any investment bankers or hedge fund managers working in Singapore now? Wanna know more about their culture as I heard it differentiates from the western countries very much. Differentiate in what sense? Except for the French, most developed financial markets are pretty much the same culturally. Long hours, apathetic behavior, results-driven. Not surprising in a culture that promotes superstars.

QUOTE(Y.J.S @ May 18 2014, 11:15 PM) The workloads? Some say due to the not so develop yet industry, most analysts do more works other than just using Excel... Are you talking about IBs in Singapore or western side? I don’t understand your question. In a culture that necessitates ego, you will be an outcast to complain about workloads. Perhaps support functions in these institutions suit your personality more.

I know this has been discussed at nauseam, but I need one clarification on the extract taken from Page 1 regarding SG driving licence.
Officially there is a law that requires our Malaysian driving licence revoked if anyone would like to convert the licence to a Singapore driving licence. See the extract below from the JPJ Driver’s Education Curriculum handbook (on page 113 – 114). It does add on that one can still get back a Malaysian driving licence and that whilst holding a Singapore driving licence one can still drive a Malaysian registered car in Malaysia and Singapore.
So to say JPJ blacklist your Malaysian driving license is not correct and misguided, they are just doing their job as required by law. However many would like to keep both driving license, hence the 'extortion'. If you are currently holding two driving licenses, the JPJ system will not store your data when the Msia driving license is up for renewal. So technically, any request for extract from JPJ to have your SG license issued would have terminated your record. Could anyone confirm this?

QUOTE(rcr @ Dec 1 2014, 11:56 AM) Btw, Singapore food sucks to the max... Even you pay a premium at an exclusive restaurant. Dammit, especially that satay bihun... WTF! How you guys survive with the food here? Discuss... This should be anecdotal . I frequent Ipoh and couldnt agree more on your blanket statement especially if you reinforce the value-for-money proposition. Incorrect to do so, but when it comes to food, exchange rate should be the common denominator! - especially for Msians

QUOTE(knwong @ Dec 5 2014, 07:15 AM) This is not allowed by MAS in Singapore I heard. If yes, can give the website link to any of those money changers? There is a threshold SGD amount that you have to observe. Any single transaction equal or above S$5,000, you will be required to fill in your particulars and purpose - MAS requirement. If you decide to split the transaction in two (have to re-join the queue though),hilariously, then you can avoid the declaration. The above is for buying and selling SGD through Direct Money Exchange. For remittance, you always have to register via a pinkish slip.
