I have SAP experience which is relevant to accounting service centers. About GAAP, i don't really know the exact accounting standards, but the reporting work I do, the accounts do comply US accounting standards because i worked for 2 USA MNCs before.
*
So, you're more of a systems person (coding?), rather than a user (ie. input, review and signoff)?

QUOTE(General Fahmy)
I think the part to familiarise would be dreaded deferred taxation and tax compliance.
*
Unfortunately, this is the area where an accountant has the most direct impact to the bottom line - minimising tax liability.

QUOTE(General Fahmy)
but I do fear the very idea of working for demanding singaporeans. I worked for them before, they can be quite merciless if you don't fulfill deadlines or you make errors.
*
Only one comment... ah but then? For the kind of salary you're asking for,.. being dependable and reliable is basically a ticket to play. Would you pay a 5-figure S$ salary to someone who thought he had the option to miss deadlines and make errors with no repercussions?

I never ask for 5-figure.

No I am a SAP user. I wish I am a system person but I am not.

Miss deadline by one hour also they make a lot of noise.
*
Bad... here not MY biasa lah, tak apa lah, the salary you looking at even at 6k 8k don't tolerate those kind of attitude. As an employee, you should not give your boss any trouble. SOP, finish your job a day before the deadline, so your boss will have plenty of time going through your work, before his deadline to his boss or client are up.

Miss means miss. No need find excuses whether 1 hour or 1 day or 1 month. You are paid to do the work n your performance is gauged by your efficiency n hence your bonus n promotion in future. If your boss tells u he also miss a 0 in your bonus, what would u think? Just a digit only.....

Well, the 10 in 8-10 is five figures.

If you're the type who's going to be an hour late, then wouldn't it be the easiest thing to just begin an hour earlier and target to complete your work an hour earlier?

Wah like this i scared la. What if I ask for lower SGD 5k in Singapore, then work 3 years decided to return to Malaysia, then the HR people only give me RM6k?

Die lah wei.
*
Bro, don't think so much lah. Come or don't come, you ask ask so much then no initiative no use smile.gif .

Since you have dealing with SG companies, ask to do transfer to SG (if options available ) if you fear so much (at least you can balik if you can't take it). Once you conformable living and working in SG then you can start looking for long term. Some companies in Malaysia have SG short term transfers where you still get pay in RM but get SG allowance
- use that to try and figure out if you want / like in Singapore.

Work here 5 year = work in Malaysia 12 1/2 year (2.5). Work 10 year balik retire buy house, land, wife laugh.gif

You need to actually be here and experience it as all of us here have different experience which may or may not relate to you. smile.gif

actually I don't like to work in Singapore, traffic jam, kiasu people, expensive rental, walk walk now here to sit, high work performance and hot weather. Many people complain Malaysia here inefficient and lazy but got benefit also I don't have to work so hard.

Reason why i am considering Singapore is because my very close friend, got promotion to SG. I don't like long distance relationship. I was thinking if can work singapore this few years, godwillingly, at least I can plan overseas trips with my partner because of 2.5.
*
Before u start work. U already condemn singapore. So u better stay back where u r now. It is not a good idea to stuck in traffic jam, work with kiasu people, pay expensive rental, high work load n performance, hot weather too. U still can bring your partner to holiday even if u r not working in singapore.

If u want to bow to the 2.5, then u got to start working n not complaining as it ll makes u miss the daedline in your work.

U dont have to force yourself. U must know how to adapt to a new environment n learn how to like your new job new place. Or else, u only making trouble for yourself n your work performance ll be affected.

Dont label singapore people as kiasu as if u r not being one.

QUOTE(General Fahmy @ Oct 20 2014, 04:07 PM)
have to love deadline,
No need lah. But you do have to meet it. You want to get paid on time, no? Meeting deadlines is just fair.

QUOTE
have to love traffic jam
I used to work in Section 16 and live 10 minutes away in Kelana Jaya. On a normal morning back in 1999-2005 when I was in KL, a 10 minute drive takes 30-45 minutes. I heard now, the LDP is even worse.

QUOTE
have to love to pay expensive rental
This one no argument... but hey... $ for $, you pay a smaller % of your salary in rental vs renting in KL. I know... I rented a terrace house for 6 years in KL and a flat for 8 years in SG. Both are the common abode respectively.

QUOTE
have to love high performance n workload
Well... you are earning 2.5X in terms of exchange rates. You could take a job in Singapore that pays 40% in S$ of the number you earned in RM. So if you earned RM10,000 per month, go get a S$4000 job. The performance requirement should be about the same.

QUOTE
have to love weather
This one I cannot brain... The weather in SG is absolutely the same as the weather in KL. KL less trees some more, and more dust and pollution.

QUOTE
and have to love kiasu people
I hated the selamba attitudes in KL, especially the vast majority of public services (except UTC, I like the UTCs). I love the public services in SG, where everything just works. And I love the police addressing me as "Sir" whenever they talk to me, instead of me having to address the corrupt ones in MY as "encik" even as they try to pin some bullshit traffic offence on me.

So, to each his own.

But stop no place to sit? Generally will have some seats available..unless you're talking about those bus stops that are in the 'hot' areas...eg Orchard/Central Business District(CBD).

Traffic jam?...In SG its more likely HUMAN jam(on MRT) rather than Traffic jam on the road.

Weather is infact 95% very similar compared to Malaysia/KL/Klang Valley

Important note. You must be ready for LOTSA walking when you don't have your personal transportation(eg Cars/Bikes). This was one the major adjustments. But after awhile you'll get use the amount of walking per day. Can easily clock up 10k walking steps.

Tanjong Pagar area is consider CBD...yes there are rooms/units to rent..but you must be willing to pay for the rental...1 room can easily SGD1k per month( HDB gov housing common room with no attached bathroom). If you want an attached bathroom its normally a master room. If you're looking into renting a WHOLE HDB unit in and around Tanjong Pagar...its way above SGD2.5k per month

traffic jam - work graveyard shift, stay next to office (if tanjong pagar how lor, got apartment nearby?) this is assume u work at tanjong pagar....if not, then???

kiasu - if u can't beat them, join them (ok I become Mr Kiasu) even u join as a kiasu, that doesnt entitle to label others as kiasu

expensive rental - buy a roof then But if i buy roof they may fine me for no permit u can buy a roof in singapore if u got the money. do u?

walk walk now here to sit - ??? Bus stop no place to sit mah then dont take bus, take taxi, lots of people taking taxi too.

high work performance - self improvement is bad? If kena high blood pressure? I seen singaporean relative get stroke/high blood pressurehot in malaysia no high blood pressure? if worries too much, can always opt for a low pay job.

weather - back in m'sia it is not hot?! because malaysia can drive car got air cond. But also good la, because walk to mrt station, can exercise and stay slim. By the way, all singaporeans don't have obesity problem, so far not seen one, maybe because they walk a lot? Got good health advantages, some more got many parks to exercise in singapore, u also can drive a car, why not buy a car and it also can brings u from point A to point B n same comfort as in malaysia.

yes, there are residential units in tanjong pagar itself

yes, u see SOME earning RM10k very lengang. but u did not see those SOME who earn S$10k very lengang either, did u? it all comes down to the company and environment. for me, i am currently enjoying my current job the most.

stress is relative on how you handle it. different people has different level of tolerance and ways to cope with it. from your replies, obviously, u are not very good in handling it or u are more of person who avoids problems instead of facing it.

well, i agree walking under the sun is not comfortable at all. but i find walking in the rain more of a problem. with the shoes completely soaked.

hah, of course i handled stress la, and pass singaporean grueling deadline test even though got 1 hour late before. Or else I kena sack long time ago, bro.

I work under singaporean boss before. Not really like him, because he always push me hard. I pass but he failed because he kena sack, yahoo.

I also like you, i don't like both sun and rain. But one saving grace is humid weather, so no need to apply mostuiriser like in London, my skin dry until it break and blood come out.

there will never be a perfect environment
u gain some, u lose some
whether u gain more or u lose more
my boss is a singaporean...but she is very nice.
she even suggested i go home early to sleep because i was sleepy.
we cannot generalize everyone under the same group.
