Anyway, OnePlus did say later, they will reveal the cost breakdown. It's also interesting to note that OnePlus did mention before that their financial backer (BBK) is allowing them to have no profit for the first two years of operations. So, OnePlus says the phone is being sold without profit. They will make some money from accesosries like the Swap Style cases.

How do I get an invite?
The main method of getting invites will be through others. In the beginning, when not a lot of other people have the device, you'll be able to get invites through contest and raffles. We have planned ways so our early fans, as well as people who weren't here from the beginning will be able to obtain invites.

When do the next batch of invites roll out?
The first real batch of invites roll out late May, and will be of the 64GB Sandstone Black version. Any invites that you might have been promised before this, will be sent during this time.

How long are invites valid for?
For invites that you receive, they are typically valid for 24 hours. If they expire, they get returned to sender so someone else can get a chance to buy it. Alternatively, you can ask for the sender to resend it to you. For invites that you can give away, they are usually valid for longer, usually 1-2 weeks.

How many invites can I give away?
This varies. In the beginning, the quantities will be smaller, but increased as time goes by. You will frequently receive new invites to give away as production ramps up.

When do I receive invites to give away?
You do not automatically receive invites when you purchase a phone. We will need to manually roll them out according to our operations situation.​

The phone will come with CyanogenMod support for two years, a Cyanogen Inc. team member said on the OnePlus forums, and will pack Google Apps. What's interesting is that there won't be a 32GB version, as the One will be offered in 16GB and 64GB flavors. The larger storage option will come at a price close to what other companies ask for 32GB models, OnePlus notes. Rumored to be made out of metal, the One will also sport a notification LED.

The battery specs haven't been revealed just yet, but it did become clear the phone will last more than a day on a single charge. There's also a new and interesting technology, which it'll be utilizing, too.

The OnePlus One will be the only phone the company makes this year. It's also planning to double its size from the 150-employee company it is now. Those are very bold plans and we'll see how things pan out for the optimistic phonemaker.

The upcoming OnePlus One droid has made yet another appearance before its official announcement, paying the Antutu benchmark a visit. The most prominent member of the Cyanogen Mod team, the guys behind the handset’s ROM, shared a screenshots with its performance in the popular benchmark.

Even though the name of the device wasn’t explicitly confirmed, that fact the post was reshared by the official OnePlus account tells you everything there is to know here.

So now that we know what the device is, let’s focus on the score. 36,715 points is an excellent achievement, topping the Galaxy Note 3’s result even though the two handset share the same chipset – Snapdragon 800.

Obviously the CM ROM is somewhat lighter than TouchWiz and leaves some extra processing power at the user’s disposal.

As previously confirmed, the OnePlus One will go on sale in its first 10 markets in Q2 (which starts in less than a month). The pricing is confirmed to be below $400, but that’s probably before local taxes are applied.

There are currently no plans to partner with wireless carriers, but the phone will be a GSM device that supports 4G LTE on AT&T and T-Mobile’s networks. By now you may have seen or heard of +OnePlus, a young company looking to make an impact with the upcoming release of their first device.

From the beginning +CyanogenMod was their OS of choice to power the device; well before hardware was even planned or engineering units were produced.

I met Pete, their CEO, while he was still at Oppo and as Cyanogen Inc. was playing catch up with the N1 device. We were chatting about the incumbents in the device market and how CM's community and growth is driven by the users. We do not have a marketing campaign, no fulltime PR team and no ads on the Superbowl. But still we manage to grow at a steady rate. The growth we see is all about the users genuinely enjoying our work, the customization & expression of self it offers and advocating for it.

Most hardware vendors have lost sight of the user piece. Money is spent piling in new specs, features, and silly ads but it seems like no one takes that step back to say "is this useful for the people buying it?

Pete and I discussed what a new model for hardware vendors would look like. Not quite a modular phone (that market is a few years out), but something less rigid than the status quo. Much like CM lets the user's voice shine through the software, there should be a way for the users voice to resonate through the hardware. Listen to the community at the design phase for starters. Yes, you'll get wildly differing opinions, but this information is invaluable - they are practically telling you what it would take for them to buy your product, it would be downright stupid to ignore that. Maybe you can't get everything off of everyone's wish list, just showing that you are listening will keep those people interested in your future products.

The team at OnePlus understands this. They are asking the right questions on their forums, running community polls about hardware and software components. By focusing their efforts to online marketing only, they can pass on savings to the users. The build quality and design of the devices we have been working with are what you would expect from a premium phone. A top of the line phone with 90% of what most people want in a phone for a reasonable price, this should be the model OEMs follow.

I'm glad to say that we are involved in that revolution.

We already knew that the upcoming OnePlus One smartphone would be launched running a custom version of CyanogenMod OS. It turns out that this is called CyanogenMod 11S, and it looks quite different from the CyanogenMod 11 that’s been available since November last year.

Engadget today received two screenshots of the OnePlus One’s OS (see above), thus confirming that this is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The image on the left shows the lock screen, which displays weather information, messages, and battery status, among other things. The screen looks fresh and quite elegant. Unfortunately, that’s all that we can see from CyanogenMod 11S at the moment.

As we told you last week, OnePlus believes that its One may be better than HTC’s newly-launched One M8 - not just because of its features, but also because it will cost no more than $400 unlocked (while an unlocked HTC One M8 costs $600, or even more).

The OnePlus One will be officially revealed on April 23. It will come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 13MP rear camera from Sony, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and a 3,100 mAh battery (with some special technology to make it last longer).

Japan Display (JDI) has announced that it’s developed a Quad HD (2560 x 1440-pixel) display, and it's ready to start mass production in April. The panel measures 5.5 inches, and it will be manufactured using JDI’s improved low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology that enables low power consumption of the module.

The big question lurking around this announcement is whether this could be the screen Apple uses in its next iPhone. Coincidentally, the alleged iPhone 6 is - so far - rumored to come in a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch version (sized just like that JDI panel). However, size is not the only reason that makes JDI's 5.5” Quad HD panel seem like a good fit for Apple's next big thing. Such a panel also matches recent reports from the Tokyo-based Nikkei publication, saying that Apple will rely on Japan Display (among others) for the displays of the alleged iPhone 6.

Nikkei also says that volume production of LCD displays for the upcoming iPhone is expected to start in the second quarter of the year (beginning in April) at Sharp’s Kameyama factory, Japan Display's Mobara manufacturing plant, and at an unknown LG Electronics factory. This timeline, again, matches JDI's current announcement.

At the same time, though, practice shows that Apple prefers to get parts that don’t have such wide publicity, and it would be very atypical if a component, that’s unveiled months ahead of the expected September launch of the iPhone 6, actually ends up in that final Apple device (or devices). Summarizing it all up, we’d say that - while it seems possible for Apple to use this 5.5” JDI display - it’s still only a speculation that should be taken with a grain of salt.

On top of that, we also ought to mention that Japan Display had already earlier unveiled Quad HD displays sized at 5.4 and 6.2 inches, but this 5.5-inch panel seems to be the first going into mass production. While big brands the rank of Samsung and Apple have not officially announced devices with Quad HD screens, Chinese phone makers started unveiling products with such high-res panels back in December (with the Vivo Xplay 3s). Putting the pieces together, we could well see those Chinese brands get the first shipments of the new high-res displays.

While we had initially planned to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, we have been working very closely with Qualcomm and I am happy to announce that we will be offering the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. This is not just any Snapdragon 801, but rather the 8974AC clocked at 2.5GHz to offer the best experience possible.

So far, we have also been quiet about the amount of RAM that the OnePlus One will have. I have been working very closely with our engineers here to determine the best way to absolutely maximize performance. After carefully considering each option, today I can tell you that the OnePlus One will come with 3GB of RAM. This way no matter how memory hungry your games and apps may be, you will never have to worry about delay due to a lack of available RAM.

well, i dun like to be someone to say 100% unless its already in my hands. even queuing up to buy anything... never know... comes to your turn, they put up a sign that says SOLD OUT.

for me... i still have my love for Note 2. but yes, this OnePlus is really giving me reasons to love it more with each tease/ announcement.

I decide so early due to their consistence to #NeverSettle, been satisfied with spec so far, should not be disappoint on software/OS given CM was quiet for some times. Most important aspect is, below $400 price tag is a no-brainer for me, like how I unable to resist Nexus for many generation.

Everything is still on paper so nothing to discuss about.  Most important is actual performance,  actual price in Malaysia and availability. For all you know it will take 6 months for it to reach us,  by then the specs already outdated and new generation phones will be out again.

would be an awesome for me if it has 4.3" -  4.5" screen. too big for my palm size to hold, and i think it'll be hard to get here in malaysia. warranty could be a problem right?
