QUOTE(WildChai @ Nov 6 2014, 12:17 AM) i wish too... there r people who upgrade from vip5 to vip10 for as low as rm169, with hypptv pack. so, my guess is at the right time n right place, might just get vip20 for another rm30 or 40. ya, i m waiting... |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Nov 5 2014, 10:59 PM) given the crap performance of cheap abnxcess and maxis fiber throttling at times, unlikely unifi will cut price or give great promos any time soon as they know a monopoly need not do that. Hmm.. Sure I'd prefer it much cheaper or faster speeds (1gbps) for RM209, but I wouldn't mind paying such for vip20.still, if you can get vip20 for 179+30=209 no hypptv packs, might be worth it. i dunno if anyone has got that... yet. |

I just called TM...they can get me the RM179 for VIP10 line. Or the current RM199 with hyppytv package. Problem is...which I find odd....is that by upgrading to either of those package, i will not get new equipment.
I asked the support...what if i upgraded and next month my modem kaput...no warranty. If i want to get new equipment, I will have to cancel and reapply new account. Kinda silly. My current unifi equipment is already 4 years old....at this age...it will fry at any moment. Biggest and most problematic issue...if cancel and apply new unifi will or might take from 10-14 days! bollocks! will feel like back to the stone age with no internet for that long! lol This post has been edited by WildChai: Nov 6 2014, 12:12 PM |

QUOTE(Elanges @ Nov 6 2014, 12:10 AM) guys.... im planing to upgrade to minix X8-H, my question is currently im using Himedia Q16 which is gigabit so far i stream movies from my local server without any lag (wired lan gigabit connection ), this minix is 100/10 connection. will the movie streaming local SMB will be slow or lag? It appears the Minix X8-H doesn't have Gigabit Ethernet. As for lan movie steaming, It'll really depend on the video file you are streaming, cache size and the player type you are using. My external hard drive was usually directly plugged into my Neo X7 then, though I tested streaming from my pc (wireless) to the box(Ethernet). 720P & 1080P mkv/mp4 files, about 10GB in size had zero lags from start till finish. Lags started occurring when I tried streaming a 30GB+ videos. It'll buffer, play for a few minutes (can't remember exactly how long, but enough to drive me mad) then buffer again. But then, that was my experience on the X7. The X8-H is supposed to be better.Edit: USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet on the MXIII. Should work on the X8-H as well since it requires no special drivers. I posed the same questions to them when i called asking about upgrading to the VIP10 package. Asked for an equipment upgrade and got the same answer, then I pointed out that, so if i wait till my current 2 years contract is up and cancel, i'll have to return the old equipments. Then i'll apply again, then can only get the newer equipments? Fella said yes. I was like I asked the support...what if i upgraded and next month my modem kaput...no warranty. I tested it with normal SMB, had issues with buffering. Which in your words...drove me mad too. NFS is better with large file streaming. Wirelessly and wired. I have some players that are wirelessly connected and a couple of tablets for movie streaming. |

My current unifi equipment is already 4 years old....at this age...it will fry at any moment. i went thru this kind of exercise a few months ago, had to call 5 times to get something sorted out. they will log the report, send u emial and then silence, you call again, someone else says somethign diff, log another report, silence again, repeat... having been thru it, having read all that in the unifi/broadband threads, having spoken to several of my friends on unifi, this is what i found. but, again, may not apply to all, depends who in unifi u speak to, who u negotiate with. call it segmentation or discrimination, watever. tm/unifi style, no doubt. .. .. some upgraders get rm179 with megapack; some rm169 w/o pack; worst case, some pay rm199, w/o pack. .. yes, no new equipment supplied; but dun worry about modem - as long as u r unifi customer, u get lifetime warranty. if confirm kaput, report to get foc replacement within 48 hrs. .. router - all new routers after signing contract get 1 yr warranty only. the router they supply is not very good. after upgrade, u r much better off buying and changing to a new router rm200 will get u one with stronger wifi, more stable ethernet, max the potential. rm300 gets u a dual 2.4/5ghz band which is useful for highrise congested with wifi users, less so for houses. .. cancel to reapply to get new cheap modem and new hypptv box is not a good idea - if someone is waiting for a port, u gvie up, u may not get it back, so wait.... |

There's a newer STB though running android? I'm interested in that. But taking port unavailability upon canceling and reapplying, not worth the risk. Just a few months left on the contract, plenty of time to keep bugging them or waiting to be called with a better deal. Stick with nfs if it's working fine for you. People usually go with smb because it's the default protocol with Windows. If you read around, the first thing suggested when there's stutter is to change to nfs. That will usually solve any issue with large file streaming. Will try out SMB again since androids are 4.4 now. And now lollipop...blazingly fast? lol. But it's not defaultly supported by Windows and native to Linux. So a bit hassle to setup if you're using Windows as the server. Smb have to be tweaked to get similar performance as nfs. |

After reading the above posts, I called TM (1-300-88-1221), talked to the Sales person, and upgraded my VIP5 to VIP10 at RM179/month, without any Hypp package. Heck, my wife had given the Hypp TV set top box to her friend, and we don't watch Hypp TV at all.
As for the TM/Dlink router, I had been waiting for it to give problem and have the excuse to get a better one. but somehow, it never missed a bit for the last 4 years. It works fine in streaming 1080p HDMA and TrueHD movies from the NAS. This post has been edited by skeelee: Nov 7 2014, 11:42 AM |

Heck, my wife had given the Hypp TV set top box to her friend, and we don't watch Hypp TV at all. nice upgrade, everything will now be twice as fast! As for the TM/Dlink modem, I had been waiting for it to give problem and have the excuse to get a better one. but somehow, it never missed a bit for the last 4 years. It works fine in streaming 1080p HDMA and TrueHD movies from the NAS. i had my hypptvbox in the drawer for >3 yrs... becos i paid rm199 w/o pack. after 5 calls and 1 month of haggling with unifi (after reading others paying 169, 179), i finally got megapack. to be fair, the current megapack is reasonable with a few decent hd channels, so i started to use it again. my orig dlink router is >3 yrs old, still working. but i had replaced it with an asus which gives stronger wifi and more stable ethernet. it's good to know u had orig dlink router working with dtshdma/ddtruehd - can keep it as backup for just-in-case. my orig modem kaput a few months back, had it replaced foc. http://www.solid-run.com/products/cubox-i-...specifications/ reason I am asking is, it has wifi. easier to connect I assume out of the box. And raspbmc's osmc is going to start a kickstarter with vero... which some people say is just rebadged cubox. |
