because it provides server side media info. all media info and info update will be handled server side, without needing each client to scrape multiple times for each player.
add new media to the server, server does the info update, server updates the sql database, and all player will see the new media plus all the necessary info without needing separate media refresh. saves time if you have a single centralized media library providing access to multiple player throughout the entire house.

netbook as nas if you have a couple of drivers. if you have more than a couple, consider building a low powered server.

probably. i didn't have any issue running my hp atom based netbook as my simple nas and download and torrent server. it's been running for over a year now. mostly turned on 24/7.

do make sure to connect the netbook through wired lan to the router. better throughput.

some intro for those who are new to XBMC.

Organize all 2000++ movie with XBMC and scraped all data from IMDB.
[attachmentid=4078822]
[attachmentid=4078828]

can also search by collection (ie: 007 collection, fast & furious collection) thumbup.gif
[attachmentid=4078823]
[attachmentid=4078824]

Sort movie by IMDB rating. Dunno what to watch? just start from the highest rating one. cool2.gif
[attachmentid=4078825]

Search By Actor. icon_rolleyes.gif
[attachmentid=4078826]

Search By Genre.
[attachmentid=4078827]

XBMC 13 and above will have build in support for 3d video playback.
Many playback mode to choose from. Here is red-cyan mode ( need red-cyan 3d glasses to watch) rclxms.gif
[attachmentid=4078829]

the best way to run XBMC is PC/desktop computer...from what i understand rasberry Pi and android doesnt for 3d playback.
owned 2 android tv dongle but all suffer from 1080 video ( frames drop). have to use external player like MX player to play 1080 video by edit the playercorefactory.xml files.
*
Hi, how you edit playercorefactory.xml ? Can you guide me?
I use android tv box when start watching movie was ok, after awhile the picture and sound not match. But when i watch on note3 and note 10 both was ok. I think is the android tv box not power enough.

Do you mean xbmc will store all those picture, trailer and details of the movie on the server? So all pc dont need go internet grab the details again.

Hi, you might not have to edit anything. Download and install Beyond XBMC. Its a custom version of XBMC for RK3188 android devices and similar rockchip devices. It helps me with very smooth playback for normal and even high bitrate 1080p media. Official Gotham release couldn't.

from the many comments on the many xbmc versions with the many devices, seems the experience is extremely varied in getting xbmc to work smoothly.

... on my pc windows vista, i had less problems with frodo 12.3. with gotham 13.1, it's bad, i gave it up, maybe return to 12.3 or try 13.2 or kodi some day. maybe old pc's can't cope...?

... on my android, i struggled with 12.2, 12.3, had to play with advancedsettings.xml to improve it, then used android manufacturer customised 12.1 version, quite ok. then using 13.1 gotham, all became good incl 1080p dts streams. but must disable the mediacodec acceleration.

... many prefer to use xbmc to playback usb, seems to struggle with it too. i just use native player - simple and easy.

think with so many devices, so many chipsets, so many brands, so many models, all kinds of results, all kinds of "manipulation" required. maybe that's why it's pretty high utility... and yet foc!!

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but i couldnt read all pages, only manage to read first 15 pages n get bored. lol.

I m new xbmc user, having 5mpbs unifi. i thought that is sufficient for HD streaming (based on my reading from the first 15 pages), but i couldnt stream HD movie smoothly, never once.
i did manage to stream SD movie (sometimes) wtihout buffering at all, and some other times, here are cases where buffering appears every 5-6 mins.

is this normal, because if it is, i would consider upgrading my unifi to 10mbps. what i am afraid is that my xbmc box is causing the buffering. i m running on pc, conecting to tv via hdmi 10 meters away. my cpu is athlon x2, n gpu is low end sapphire GC. (i know, not the best PC spec available). I really hope it is my hadrware rather than connection speed as 5mbps is fast enough, i think.

i rea few things about audio causing the lag as well, but could not understand it completely. anyone can shed some lights here?

subscribe to netflix/hulu. subscribe to dns service.
free streaming services are too much dependent on the provider. which usually sucks because it's free.

5mbps is enough for continuous 720p. don't have to download another tv series, ever. it will only cost you, around RM20 a month.
and if you configure your wifi router correctly, you could stream netflix in hd, let your kids watch youtube and run the server to download and torrent all at the same time.

Which source you stream from?

I only recommend Hugefiles and Movreel. If anything wrong with these two or not available then only you choose others.

One thing to note some other sources may be not be the same quality, most of them in SD and stereo sound.

No astro addon, if you wish to have them like the one you saw on previous page, you need to subscribe to astro i mean real astro byond HD, you need HD video recorder / video capture card, a computer, IR Blaster to change channel and tons of time to read guide and patient to set everything up.

If not then you can just activate LIVE TV and read the guide , and watch few limited astro channel tvs.

Ironically when you have XBMC you dont need Astro.

XBMC content is more up to date compare to Astro or netflix/ hulu

most of the time i have success with 180 n BU.... MR & HF most of the times doesnt work for me. I guess i should try netflix, just to make sure that the buffering problems that i m having is because of the sources, not hardware or my connection
