True - parts are important - that's why Dahon and Tern seem the easiest - what about XDS and TRS?

mostly the parts are designed to be universal.. like you can use something from other bike to put on your bike..

you must check whether there is a place to hold the brake at the fork.. If there is, then you can install disx brake

normal brake and disc brake diff.. disc brake more grippy IMO

To me no difference as I no longer have a powerful 'engine' The feel of stopping is more important to me. tongue.gif
Components not so important. Get the best frame you can afford. Components can always be upgraded. IMO

dahon and tern..u get more choices in accessories especially racks, luggage truss if u plan to go touring or ride long distance in the future.
not sure bout XDS and TRS...there are also similar brands in your price range such as LG, Oyama, Hasa, Java, Trinx, GTA, Raleigh,Le Run, Mongoose,KHS... usually for this segment..pretty straight forward. choose the spd, frame design and colour that you like. all also lebih kurang sama...down to personal preference and your budget in the end.

my normal route's also hilly.. one part is steep downhill next to the hockey stadium off jln duta.. the stock brakes on my Boardwalk seems ok so far... though even with one hand gently squeezing the rear brake i was still going in excess of 40km/h according to strava!.. may not be accurate as i dont have a cyclometer installed yet

talking on cyclometer/speedo reading ..which one do you recommend most? i would prefer speed and distance monitoring..those calories burning, cadence and time attack not necessary.. saw this wireless sunding brand in lelong.. (sounds like serunding daging brows.gif) price quite cheap but not sure if it works on foldie since the handlebar quite far from the fork.. i saw few comments there it does not work on foldie .. leaving cateye brand to aim.. well.. price quite steep but if it's reliable why not coz i need to monitor my cycle distance

tq again rolleyes.gif

good question. for myself i just attach my phone to the handlebar and use the Strava app. shows some useful stats like average and max speed, and you can also compare your time over certain segments with other riders (or against your own previous times).. good enough for me... even when i run i just use the Nike Running app on my phone - didnt have any sensors & wires connected to my shoes

Either disc brakes or V-brakes( the other kind of brake system) has it advantages and disadvantages. It's hard to get a very good V-brakes though but me, I prefer V-brakes as maintenance is much easier and also if you get a good one, it performs better than a disc brake. I won't mind a hydraulic disc brake but I don't trust a mechanical disc brake (cable actuated brake). In a disc brake the braking surface is only 6 to 8 inch in diameter while the braking surface of the V-brake is 20 inch in diameter.

Also there is also the characteristics of both type of brake. I like to feel the braking and with V-brakes you can feel it and also the modulation and feel of a V-brake is more. Ever wonder why a real touring bike never uses disc brake?

good point but even when i run i have my phone on my arm.. a risk i'm aware of... but honestly almost everyone has a smartphone on them all the time and if a robber wants to rob you the fact that it's in plain view or in your bag/pocket they'll stop u to take it
